Chapter Thirty-Nine

Anonymous

I had been lurking in the shadows, plotting on my next move. Carter and Wise… both of those ma’fuckas had hell to pay. Yeah, I got something for them, and I was going to holla’ at ‘em when they least expected it.

I let out a smile, rubbing my hands together, after throwing the car in park, and hopping out. I saw Wise as he made it out of the house, but I was already half-way up the block, and my windows were tinted, so I knew that he didn’t have the slightest idea of who I was. Good, I wanted to keep it that way until the day I decided to make my grand.

People were underestimating me and I think that I had to show them just who I was. I had to take a long break, and I sat back in the cut for a minute. But, it was my time to shine.

I was going to start with that arrogant ass Carter. I couldn’t stand him. He thought that he had moved out of town and avoided some shit, however, he couldn’t dodge what I was about to bring his way. I just had to play it smart because he was highly connected. Shit, if I didn’t handle things correctly, he could be his own army.

Fuck him, I thought, hopping out of my car and making my way into the little bar off of Plymouth and the Southfield expressway. It was a hole in the wall with one way in and one way out that no one who was anyone really came to. Everywhere that I went had to be low-key until I got things in order.

I made it to the bar, and slapped fives with my homeboy, before sitting at the empty seat next to him. “So what’s the word?” I eyed him, studying his face. I didn’t trust his ol’ snitching snake ass either. Depending on how I felt when shit hit the fan, he could probably get it too.

“Carter staying at the Western off Lahser, and I got somebody on Wise for you. What you want to do? They ain’t expecting shit.”

I nodded my head, loving the fact that I had the upper-hand. It would all be played by my rules. “Just hold off. I don’t want you to do nothing just yet. I just want to keep fucking with them… make them sweat.”

My homeboy shrugged. “Just let me know how you want to do it. But, anyways, I got to head out and get back to this girl.”

I chuckled, his ol’ horny ass was going to let pussy be his downfall. Especially the scandalous broad that he was dealing with. “Awww, don’t tell me that you catching feeling and shit. You like that girl, don’t you?” I teased, already knowing the answer.

His forehead got all wrinkled, and that goofy ass look that formed on his face let me know that he was about to lie.  “Nah, man! You know I don’t love these hoes. She a runner. She just cool for the moment.”

I shook my head. I didn’t know why he wanted to lie to me. I wasn’t trying to fuck with the hoe like that. “Well, alright. Have yo’ people call me if that punk ass nigga Carter leaves. I got something for his ass.”

A devilish grin formed on his face. “I might have something better for you. Hold tight and just give me a minute.

I just nodded my head, not even bothering to think about what he was talking about. I didn’t need nobody to help me get at Carter, I had my own plan. Unless, whatever he had was a hell of a lot better than what I had in store.

Chapter Forty

Carter

I walked to the car to fire up a blunt because the hotel was acting all strict about not smoking in the rooms. Somebody was being a bitch and called the front desk on us, and I didn’t even want those problems over bullshit. As soon as I got outside, I got this eerie feeling. Something wasn’t right.

I glanced around the parking lot, and as my eyes landed on a Black Dodge Charger with two niggas in it, I got suspicious as hell. They looked away as soon as I caught eye contact with them, which raised my antennas even further.

I knew that I had done my share of dirt, so with me being back in the city, I had to be on my shit. Even if they weren’t thinking about me, I still was on their head because I didn’t trust nobody. My hands grazed my waistline, feeling for the pistol that I had tucked. I had a hot bullet for their asses if they wanted to act stupid.

After making it to the car, I hit Wise up and told him to make his way to the hotel asap. I couldn’t even hit the blunt like I wanted to, so after two puffs, I put that shit out and headed back to the room, pretending that I didn’t notice them.

My mind went to Adonnis. I wondered if those hoes that he had brought back to the hotel were set up chicks. Broads were scandalous as hell these days, especially when they smelled a nigga with money. I went straight to his room and knocked on the door to check on him.

It took a second, but one of the little broads came and answered the door wearing nothing but a thong. She had a sick frame, but I wasn’t thinking about these hoes. She smiled at me suggestively, poking her hip out. “What’s up sexy? You came to join us?”

“Hell nah… Where Don at?” I asked nonchalantly, purposely trying to ignore the fact that she was a thirst trap, trying to throw the pussy at me.

“He just walked across the street to the gas station. We ran out of condoms.” She chuckled, twirling her hair around her finger. “Are you sure you don’t want to join us? He can’t handle the both of us.”

I didn’t even respond to her. I walked off, making my way two doors down to my room. I didn’t have time for bullshit. I prided myself on being on my shit. I may have slipped up a time or two, but for the most part, it wasn’t much that you could get pass me.

An hour later, both Wise and Adonnis had both showed up at my room. They were sitting down as we spoke, but I was at the window. I discretely peeked out, only to see that those niggas were still sitting in that ma’fuckin Charger. It wasn’t no paranoia type shit. They had to be on some bullshit.

“Aye man, what the fuck you keep staring at?” Wise asked, causing me to look in his direction.

I beckoned for him to come over to me, then I pointed at the car once he was close enough. “I just peeped them earlier when I went to hit the blunt, and those ma’fuckas still there like they staking some shit out.”

Adonnis looked out of the window too. “Hell yeah. I peeped them too when I went out to get some mo’ condoms. I thought they was ‘dem bitches body guards on some shit.”

I shook my head. “But, you done sent them broads on their way and they still out there. So that can’t be it.”

Adonnis shrugged, but didn’t say anything.

“You talking, but let’s go see who they are. Some ma’fucka just threw a rock through Milan’s window and skidded off. That shit got me thinking hard as hell.” Wise fixed his eyes on me. “When you snatched that nigga Jabari up, how did you find him? You sure it was him?”

My forehead creased, I had to look at his ass sideways. “What the fuck do you mean did I snatch up the right ma’fucka. You was there. You saw the nigga with your own two eyes. Hell yeah I got the nigga.” I grimaced, hoping that it wasn’t no shit in the game.  I had hit my homegirl up to get the scoop and it turned out she was already kicking it with Jabari’s punk ass on the low. She called him up and it was a wrap from there, plain and simple

Wise shook his head. “That’s what I know, but shit feeling funny as hell. Y’all fucked that nigga’s face. It looked like him, but he got a brother. I’m just trying to make sure shit is right.”

Now Wise had me thinking. I paused for a second before I responded. “Nah bro, I got this. It was him. How the fuck you get his phone? And the newscaster announced that it was him. Remember?”

“Man, fuck the bullshit. Let’s go see who these ma’fuckas are. I’ll be damned if they catch me down bad.” Adonnis shouted, cutting us off heading towards the door. Both Wise and I followed.

“Y’all strapped?” I asked, making my way out of the door first. They nodded. I was fully prepared to split a nigga’s head wide open, especially if they were playing with my life.

Wise

By the time that we made it outside, the Charger with the dudes in it was pulling off. Whoever the nigga was stared us down and held up his finger pointing at us like he was squeezing the trigger. Then and there, I knew that somebody was fucking with us... letting us know that they was at our heads.

"What the fuck?" Carter yelled, reaching for his pistol. I instantly held my hand out stopping him. I didn't miss the police cruiser riding through the parking lot, and they would lock our asses under the cell, fucking around in these suburbs.

This shit had me worried as hell. Everything was falling apart. I think that I was gone pack up my family and get the fuck on after I handled Keem's punk ass.

I tapped Carter's chest, and signaled with my head for him to follow me back into the hotel until that cruiser left. We all were strapped, and dirty as hell.

Adonnis was the first to speak once we got back inside. "Man, I ain't never in my life had to deal with no punk ass shit like this. You better get this shit in check, bro." He pointed at Carter, walking off.

Carter just gave me this look, his face was tight as hell, but he didn't say anything. We silently walked to his room. He went straight to the mini bar and grabbed himself the little bottle of Ciroc that they had in there, cracking it open and taking it straight to the head with no chaser.

"Lil bro, you know I'd catch a bullet for yo' ass. But, something ain't right. I feel like I got death on me. I done did so much foul shit and I got this feeling." He shook his head, taking another swig of his liquor.

I didn’t know what to say. Carter was talking crazy as fuck. Wasn't shit gone happen to my bro, especially on the count of me. That would fuck my head all the way up.

He continued. "If a nigga take me out, I couldn't say shit. I been living foul for a long time bro. That bitch karma is a ma'fucka," He chuckled, but his expression wasn't happy at all.

I shook my head. "Man stop talking like that, nigga. You gone be straight. You gone get Selena and take yo' ass back to the A and live yo' life. Fuck this bullshit here, I got it." I hit my chest aggressively as I spoke. I couldn't think about him dying. I didn't want to.

"Nah, I ain't leaving until you straight, bro. I'm gone be aight, I'm just tripping. You know I ain't scared of shit, but God. When it's my time, it's my time." He shrugged.

"You tripping, Carter for real. I'm about to make a few phone calls and check on Milan. She with her momma. You and Don need to get the fuck up out this hotel, for real."

Carter nodded. "Yeah, I'm probably gone fuck with Selena tonight. We supposed to be meeting up. Don got some people here in the D, he probably gone meet up with them."

I stared at Carter for a minute before I decided to get up to leave. Then, I pulled out my phone and texted a couple of my workers to pull up and follow my brother and Don. I needed someone watching everybody at all times. The fucked up part was, I didn't even know if I could trust the ma'fuckas that I had been rocking with forever. This shit was sad!

Chapter Forty-One

Selena

I had changed three times, but nothing seemed to look good enough for tonight. Carter texted me, saying that he was ready to meet up and he had even given the spot to meet up at. I was so nervous to see him.  I still got butterflies just thinking about that man.

A smile creased my lips. He was still the cocky, bossy bastard that had stolen my heart. I didn’t know why I tried to trick myself into believing that I could actually leave him. I guess I had a little bug in my ear.

My eyes roamed over to Troy, who was sitting on the couch with his feet propped up. I wouldn’t exactly call what we had going on dating. He was just someone that was there to comfort me when I needed a shoulder to cry on. He said all the right things and I followed him back to the city, foolishly.

Troy had really been in a funk since Carter showed up at the mall. He hated Carter, and I didn’t even understand why. He didn’t know him from a can of paint, or at least I didn’t think that he knew him.

“So where did you say you was going tonight?” He focused on me, catching me staring. He looked me up and down, studying what I had on.

“Out to meet up with a friend. Why?” I told him, wondering why he was checking me. I didn’t belong to him, and now that daddy’s home, I never would.

“What do you mean, why? You ain’t been going out before, so why you getting all dressed up, and suddenly got friends when that nigga comes to town? You fucking with him again or some shit?” He spat, standing up.

I placed my hands on my hip, watching him walk toward me. One thing that Carter taught me while we were together was to never show fear, and always be prepared. If Troy got to acting stupid, I had my 9mm in the drawer waiting for him.

“The last time I checked, you wasn’t my man, Troy. I appreciate you being here to comfort me, but please don’t start the 21 questions. I told you that I’m not ready for another relationship. The wounds are still fresh from the last one.”

Troy’s face hardened, and that’s all it took for me to back up a few feet and rest my hand on my top drawer. I never took my eyes off of Troy as I felt around for my pistol. Troy lunged at me, and I whipped my nine out and pointed it at his head so fast that he didn’t know what hit him.

He stumbled backwards with his hands in the air. “Wha…what you doing with that gun, man?” He faltered over his words.

I had the gun pointed at his head as I spoke. “Don’t play with me Troy. Why you jumping like you was about to hit me? I put it on my unborn that I will end your life right here tonight and not think twice. My baby daddy’s name is Carter Jackson, boo. And being his bitch definitely ain’t make me no slouch. Do yo’ research.” I warned through clenched teeth.

Troy just didn’t know, Carter and I had that real Bonnie and Clyde relationship. I got my hands dirty a few times. It was all in the name of love. But, a bitch gets tired of riding. I was ready to sit down and have a normal life. Plus, I was about to bring a baby into the world. I wanted a better life for him.

I could tell that Troy wanted to say something out the way, however, with the gun pointed at his head, he bitched up real quick. I pointed toward the door with the gun, “You need to leave Troy.”

“Why you doing this, though? You pulling guns out, really?” I swear, Troy sounded like a bitch. I can’t believe that I let a nigga like him get into my ear. I guess being hurt would have you doing things you’d never thought you’d do.

“Just go, please?” I demanded, watching as he started heading toward the door. Once he was out, I closed and locked the door, then I dialed up Carter.

“Change of plans.” I spoke into the phone as soon as he said hello. “I don’t want to go out anymore. Just come to my house. We have a lot to talk about. And make sure that you bring your bitch with you.” I demanded, referring to his gun, then I read off my address. Although Troy and I had known each other for over six months, I didn’t fully trust that he wouldn’t come back acting a fool.

“What’s going on?” Carter asked.

“Just be here with your friend.” I grimaced. “And just so you know, I love you Carter and I never stopped.” I didn’t give him a chance to respond, I hung up and sat on my living room couch, staring out of the window. I caught Troy just as he sped off. I didn’t know what Carter was into coming back to Detroit, but I was going to drag his ass back to Atlanta and make him retire from the streets and be the man that I needed him to be.
