“You bring out the best in me.”

“I plan to for a very long time.”

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

My first thank-you is for my readers who email me and reach out on Facebook and Twitter. I appreciate every note and try hard to respond to each one. A simple “I like your books” can turn around a blue day for a writer. The fact that I’m writing acknowledgments for my seventh novel blows my mind; my original writing goal was to see my name on the cover of a book—one book.

I feel as if I thank the same people in my acknowledgments every time, but the list is accurate. I have an incredible network of people who support my writing from the production side, the research side, and the author-mental-health side.

JoVon Sotak, Jessica Poore, and Thom Kephart make certain my books are of the best quality and receive incredible marketing. Charlotte Herscher helps me fine-tune my stories and kindly points out where I might bore my readers. FBI Agent Devinney patiently answers my questions, and former cops Gary Tabke and Lee Lofland share their expertise when I’m smart enough to ask. That’s every author’s dilemma—we often don’t know when we need to ask questions. All errors are my own.

Fellow author Melinda Leigh is always there when I stress over plots or wonder what to feed my kids (they want food EVERY DAY!), or just to share dog pictures. My daughters subtly point out that I’m still in my pajamas when they get home from school and cheer when I finish a book. My husband buys me chocolate and doesn’t take it personally when I roll my eyes as he suggests
again
that I solve my plot issues with zombies. Just for him, I worked zombies into this book. Sorta.
