Six Years Later

“Come on daddy, just one more story.” I hear Ava pleading with Jax for another bedtime story from the other room. I hear him try to say no, but I know our daughter and I know at this very moment she is giving Jax her sad puppy dog eyes and pouty lip. Which, I know for a fact, gets him to cave every single time. That cute little girl has had him wrapped around her finger since the day she was born. She is so my daughter. Everyone calls her my mini me. She has my blonde hair and my strong willed personality. My mom says it’s payback for how I was as a kid, but I see it as I’m raising a strong independent woman who won’t be afraid to go after her dreams.

Ava was born a month after Pippa and I opened Sweet Temptations. During my pregnancy, I wondered how I was going to run a restaurant, raise a baby, and be a wife. The moment the doctor placed Ava in my arms all that mattered to me in this world was that little girl. I made the big decision to hire another head chef to take over the kitchen. I still work the kitchen two days a week and teach classes on the weekends. I will never not have my hands in my restaurants, but I did so well hiring the right people that Bennett’s and Sweet Temptations practically run themselves and I don’t have to be there every single day.

Jax’s construction business has flourished over the past six years, which has given him the opportunity to take more time off to be home with us. Now that we have our six-week old son Gavin with us, we need him home even more.

I sit in Gavin’s room, gently rocking him and running my finger through the little mohawk of brown hair on the top of his head. He is the spitting image of Jax. He has his nose, his eyes, and the makings of the dimples I love so much. And as he nurses from my left breast, he has the blissfully happy face that Jax makes when he's face deep in my breasts. He’s just the sweetest baby, another quality that reminds me of Jax.

Ava with my strong willed personality is going to give this world a run for its money, and I can’t wait to see Gavin’s personality take shape. I never imagined I would be a wife and a mother, but now that I have two beautiful children and the most amazing husband a woman could ever ask for, I can’t imagine my life without them.

I hear the floor creak and look up to see Jax standing in the doorway. He quietly tip toes over to us and kneels down next to the rocker.

“So how many books did you get suckered into reading?” I grin.

“Only two and a half. Ava passed out halfway through The Little Mermaid. So how is little man doing?” he asks, gently stroking Gavin’s head. Jax is an amazing father, he dotes on both of our kids. He builds blanket castles and plays the prince in Ava’s princess games, and he’s even teaching her how to play the piano. He takes the night shift with Gavin so I can sleep and, he doesn’t know it but, I hear him on the baby monitor singing Gavin to sleep. It’s so damn sweet.

“He has a boob in his mouth, how do you think he’s doing?” I softly giggle.

“He’s in heaven. I’m wishing I could have a boob in my mouth right about now.”

“You’re in luck because the doctor gave us the green light to start having sex again.” I wiggle my eyebrows at him.

It’s been six long torturous weeks since Jax and I made love and it’s been slowly killing me sleeping next to my gorgeous as hell husband and not being able to climb on top of him.

“Thank fuck,” he whispers. He has an excited glint in his eyes and he’s smiling from ear to ear. He looks like a little kid who just got told he could have candy for dinner.

When Gavin finishes nursing, I hand him over to Jax to burp and put down while I go change and get ready for bed. I get up from the rocker and I lean in to give Gavin a kiss good night. Before I can walk out of the room, Jax grabs my arm stopping me.

“When I get back to our room all you better be wearing is a smile,” he growls in my ear.

“Whatever you want, Daddy.” I grin.

I walk down the hallway to our bedroom. After Ava was born we bought the loft next door to Jax’s place. At first Jax suggested we move to the burbs but I didn’t want to live so far away from the restaurant. I may not be working there every day but I still wanted to be close, so Jax blew down the walls and added a play room and three extra bedrooms to give us the space we needed.

Once in our room, I head straight for the bathroom to freshen up. I run a brush through my hair and apply a little of the pink lipstick I know Jax loves. I strip off my robe and give myself a quick glance in the mirror. I’m still working off the baby weight and my curves are a little softer but I still look damn good. Even though we haven’t been able to have sex, Jax hasn’t been able to keep his hands off me. He always finds ways to touch me. It makes me feel good that even after six years together he still can’t get enough of me.

I step out of the bathroom in time to see Jax stripping off his shirt. His tattooed muscular chest is on full display. He has since added three new tattoos, mine, Ava, and Gavin's names. I remember the day Jax got Gavin’s name added to his chest. We were at the doctor’s office waiting to find out the sex of the baby. I told him he couldn’t know the names I picked out until we knew if we were having a boy or a girl. I knew in my heart we were having a boy, but I didn’t want to spill the beans that I chose Jax’s brother Gavin's name until I knew for sure it was a boy.

Gavin was such an important person to Jax that I wanted to honor his memory somehow, and when I found out I was pregnant again, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that we had to name him Gavin. I’ve only seen Jax cry twice in the six years we have been together, the day we got married and the day Ava was born, so I knew I had done good when the tears started streaming down his face when I told him the name of our son. As soon as we left the doctor’s office we headed straight for the tattoo shop to add Gavin’s tattoo.

Jax catches me watching him undress and flashes me a sexy grin. This is a show I will never get tired of watching. I love every inch of his muscular body, and I can’t wait to feel the weight of him on top of me again. He stalks over to me with a dark primal glint in his eyes, and a devious grin on his lips, and those dimples I fell in love with the first night we met are on full display.

He stops in front of me and his intoxicatingly manly scent fills my senses. His fingers softly trail down my cheek and under my chin, tilting my lips up to his. The moment our lips meet I'm instantly taken back to the night we first met and the kiss that changed my life forever. He was just supposed to be a drunken fling, instead he turned out to be the greatest love of my life.
