(This scenario fits both men and women)
Ex. A young lady has an apartment and one
child. She is employed at a local college and earns enough to pay
the bills. She knows that she needs to further her education and
training to become more marketable and make a better salary.
Instead of pursuing further education, she becomes depressed and
angry. She spends her extra time hanging out and going to clubs.
This man she meets has a car and brings small gifts when he comes
to visit. He still lives at home, but he claims to be moving out
soon. He wants her to move with him to another state because he
can’t find steady employment where he is. He says the job market is
just too tight. She spends the next three years chasing his dreams.
She meets him here, meets him there. She pays for this and loans
him that. She spends all of her extra time with him and helps him
look for work. She believes his plans eventually will happen. Well,
he never gets steady employment, his attitude is now very nasty
because of his circumstances, and she’s lost 3 years of her life.
Now, she’s bitter with him about the time she’s lost, and he’s
tired of her nagging him about his situation. Now, the relationship
dissolves.
What did she gain? What did she lose? 3
years of effort and time.
I’m sorry, there’s no need to be angry if
you’ve been in this situation. Nobody can sell you a dream if you
don’t buy it. Your personal dissatisfaction with life can blind you
to bad relationship warning signs.
If you haven’t already, start making a list
of personal and career goals. Here is a partial list to help get
you started. It’s helpful when making decisions.
