Tessa vaulted erect, leapt out of the bed and padded to the window. A shaft of moonlight spangled with dust motes fell at her feet, bathing her naked skin, her hair, her face, and she uttered a squeal of delight.

“What is it?” Giles asked, stretching in the bed behind.

“Giles, oh, Giles…come quickly! Oh do!” she cried.

Climbing out of the bed, he did as she bade him. “What is it, my love?” he drawled.

“Don’t you see?” she cried, jogging in place. “The moon, Giles…it’s full, and we are still…
us!

“Lud, so we are!” he murmured. Lifting her off the floor, he spun her in circles, convulsed in deep, riveting laughter.

After a moment, he let her slide the length of his hard-muscled body. He was aroused again, and he scooped her up in strong arms and carried her back to the bed.

“There’s been so much happening, I’d totally forgotten the moon was waxing full,” he said, gathering her against him. “I’d become accustomed to sensing its change and dreading…See how you’ve bewitched me?” he asked.

Smothering her with kisses, he loved her again and again, while the moon passed through the indigo vault among the stars, and finally faded from view. They scarcely saw. Enraptured, they clung to each other in total abandon. They scarcely heard the twitter of the lapwings and skylarks, starlings and morning doves that came to life in the misty darkness before dawn…or the distant mournful echo of a wolf’s plaintive howl riding the cool dawn breeze.
