“I love you, little girl,” he said.

Dave had his interview the following day. Andrew had laughed at many times Molly wished him good luck with it before he left. It was obvious that Andrew wasn’t the only one who hoped that his friend would be moving to the area soon. Andrew was glad that things had worked out so well between the three of them the night before. Dave had been so fascinated by Andrew and Molly’s relationship when Andrew had explained it over the phone, and he had truly enjoyed showing it off. Having an audience as he spanked Molly had been exhilarating.

Around the time that Dave would be going in for his interview, Andrew decided to try calling Questru again. After her punishment last night, Molly had fallen quickly asleep on the sofa. Andrew had once again carried her up to bed, this time tucking her into his own bed with a kiss.

After this, he and Dave had talked late into the night about the Mialis situation, among many other topics. Dave had the same strong feelings on the topic that Molly did, and he had pointed out that as much as Andrew was teaching Molly about responsibility, she was teaching him about things, too. Andrew realized that he was right. He had gotten a bit too jaded, and Molly’s passionate desire to right wrongs, although sometimes misdirected and sometimes not dealt with calmly enough, was one of her best characteristics. Andrew was happy to let it rub off on him.

This time when he called, Andrew was connected to Mark Adams, the regional director, right away. Andrew launched into the whole story about what had happened with Marcel, starting with how he had left materials in his office without asking permission.

“Well,” the director had said, “that could easily have been a misunderstanding.”

Andrew had continued on to describe how he had received mail from Marcel at his house. “I still can’t explain how he got my address,” Andrew told Mark.

Mark had a harder time defending against this. “We certainly don’t encourage any of our representatives to direct correspondence to a doctor’s home address, nor do we give out that information.”

Andrew suggested that Marcel might have found his address by snooping in the office trash.

“That would certainly be out of line, if that was the case, but that’s purely speculation,” Mark had said.

Next, Andrew had explained his appointment with Melissa, and how she had told Andrew that she got the brochure from her school’s nurse.

“Surely she must have made that up,” Mark told Andrew, starting to sound particularly defensive. “That’s entirely against the Questru policy, and probably the law.”

“No,” Andrew said definitively. “She didn’t make it up. I talked to the nurse at her school, and she said that Marcel had visited to give out materials about vaccines. He must have left the Mialis brochures then, too, because when she checked again, the nurse found that there were still some there.” There was silence on the other end of the phone. “There’s more,” the doctor told him.

“There’s more?” Mark asked with disbelief.

“Yes. I called other schools in the area and talked to the nurses there. Marcel visited every single high school and distributed the brochures there.” Andrew didn’t need to talk about his concerns about giving out free samples, since he had never come up with any evidence to support this. “You can’t peddle prescription diet pills to high school students,” Andrew said firmly. “I think you can see why this is a problem.”

The call had ended with Mark apologizing profusely and promising Andrew that Marcel was going to be terminated immediately and that he could rest assured that this sort of thing would never happen again. After hanging up the phone, Andrew sat back in his seat, feeling triumphant. He called Molly into his office. His little girl walked in confidently. Andrew took note of the way that she seemed to be exactly where she belonged whenever he saw her now.

“Guess what just happened?” he asked.

“I dunno,” Molly said coyly. “You tell me.”

Andrew couldn’t stop himself from smiling. “I just got off the phone with Questru. At first, they didn’t believe me about Marcel, but when I told them everything I learned, they were just as outraged as we were.”

Molly clapped her hands happily. “Did Marcel get fired?”

Andrew told her that he did.

“Hooray!” Molly cheered. “For once, someone got fired who deserved it!”

Andrew gave Molly a kiss on the cheek. “How does it feel to never have to worry about being fired again?” he asked, since she had brought it up. He studied her girlish little face as she shrugged, rubbing her chin against her shoulder. It amazed him how he could do such dirty things to Molly and yet when he had a normal conversation with her, she would return to such a shy state. That was the way his little girl was, though, and he loved everything about her.

“It feels amazing,” she told him. “You’re the one who makes me feel that way. I feel like nothing bad can ever happen to me again when I’m with you.”

Andrew grinned. “I can’t promise you that, but I can promise you that no matter what does happen, I’ll be there to get you through it. I know I’ve said this to you before, but I really can’t imagine my life without you. That’s why it was so important for me that you meet Dave.”

Molly looked confused. “What do you mean?” she asked.

“Dave is my best friend,” Andrew started to explain. Molly nodded her understanding. “He’s known me for years now, and he’s met every girl that I’ve had a serious relationship with. He even used to live with me and my ex-girlfriend when we were in school. When I first started telling him about you, he was a little skeptical.”

“What were you saying?” Molly wanted to know.

“I was telling him that you were perfect for me. That taking care of you makes me feel like a complete person for the first time. That the same way that being a doctor lets me look after my patients, that I get to look after you and make your life richer. I told him how you’ve made me see the world as a magical place. I told him how you trust me, and what that means to me. And I told him that you’re the sexiest human being on the planet.”

Molly looked like she might cry.

Andrew felt his heart beating hard in his chest as he continued, feeling a bit shy and abashed himself. “After he met you, and after I showed him what we have together, he understood what I meant. He assured me that I did know what I was talking about, and that I should never, ever let you go.” Andrew took Molly’s hand. “Promise me that you’ll always be mine?” he asked.

“I promise,” Molly whispered.
