Elin shivered at the low words. “I know. I just need to catch my breath.”

“Of course, baby.” Kael gave Anna a smirk. “We can wait.”

Elin beamed up at Anna, then tossed Kael a careful grin. “Could you two…could I watch you kiss a little more? While I’m recovering, you know.”

Anna snickered at Elin’s attempt to move them past the moment. “Pervert.”

Elin folded her arms behind her head and raised a mischievous eyebrow. “So?”

“So that’s another reason we can’t help loving you,” Kael said, speaking for the first time since Anna’s sincere words. She moved forward and reached for Anna with tentative arms. “And I’m not inclined to deny your request.”

“Tonight and the rest of our lives, baby.” Kael kissed Elin slowly and deeply. Drawing back, she leaned over and gave Anna a shyer kiss.

“Absolutely,” Anna confirmed, holding Kael’s gaze. “Forever.”

“So you think we’re near a town?” Anna called to her lovers, who walked side by side ahead of her. After two relaxing days in their little cabin in the woods, they were on the road again.

“I have to admit, I’m curious about towns,” Anna said. “I haven’t been to very many since the sickness.

“It’s not a bad philosophy,” Kael muttered.

“But think of everything you’re missing!” Elin said. “I’m not saying I want to settle in a town or anything, but I happen to enjoy some modern comforts from time to time. My dad always had music in the house—we used car batteries, solar panels—he always found a way to let me experience some of the things from his past. Just having a house full of books and magazines—”

“Baby, you know I don’t mind taking you into town every once in a while,” Kael said. “I know you love exploring. And I know you love your books, and I’d never deny you those. It’s just that I don’t understand the big deal about that stuff. I lived with full electricity, music—even movies—from the time I was fourteen years old. “Electricity?” Anna had heard stories about the wonders electricity could provide, but she had never actually seen it for herself.

Kael gave her a short nod. “I guess they had an engineer or three join the Procreation Movement. A couple of years after we settled there, they figured out how to generate power. They used to play classical music through the speakers in my room every evening. On Sundays I was allowed to have a ‘night off’ in my room with a television and DVD player. They showed me old movies all the time.”
