As always, while my books are very visual and cinematic, the sheer cost of bringing them to the screen is prohibitive. But I’m in no hurry. I’ll just continue to write more novels and let Hollywood come knocking when it’s ready!

What is next for Matthew Reilly?

It has been a tough couple of years since the death of my wife, Natalie, in 2011, but I am determined to be positive again. I love writing and have found myself enthusiastically embracing it. Indeed, I’ve spent much of 2013 with my head down, immersed in a creative purple patch.

I have already finished a new novel and the plan is to release it next year (the first time I have done two books in back-to-back years since
Hover Car Racer
and
Seven Ancient Wonders
in 2004/2005). The new novel is a huge and fun techno-thriller with the biggest action I have ever written. It’s a return to my monster-movie roots and the scale is gigantic.

I have also finished a new 140-page novella,
Troll Mountain
, that I plan to release as an ebook in mid-2014. It’s a good old-fashioned quest story set in a fantasy world with, well, lots of rampaging trolls in it.

After that—after many requests from fans at signings and speeches—I intend to return to the adventures of Jack West Jr and Scarecrow. Sometimes as an author you need to take a break from your heroes to contemplate their next moves and by taking a few years holiday, particularly from Jack, I was able to craft his next adventure and make it an absolute ripper.

Any final words?

In the end, as always, I just hope you enjoyed the book.
