Chapter One

The Los Angeles sun shone down brightly on the city, and the warm winter air danced through the palm fronds that basked in the light. It also shone on two young women who were strolling down Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. One of them was tall and blonde, like many women in Los Angeles, sporting a trim and fit figure, blue eyes, red lips, and her daddy's credit card, that knew no real limits.

The other woman was not quite as tall, not quite as slender; although she was very fit, and her curves were much rounder than those of the blonde girl. This girl had dark mahogany skin and warm brown eyes, and her black hair was curled and wavy, hanging down her back to her full hips. She was a stunning beauty; she was often compared to Halle Berry, although with longer hair, of course.

They were both fairly well off as Beverly Hills ladies go, but Tiffany, the blonde woman, was much more comfortable and at home in her native Southern California, while Shannon, who had moved to Los Angeles from Denver, Colorado, was not quite as comfortable in the Barbie girl world.

Though they were quite different on the outside and on the inside as well, they had become the best of friends, and both of them were glad to have each other.

This particular warm, sunny winter day was falling closer to the end of winter and the beginning of spring, and the ladies were shopping for a very special upcoming occasion.

Tiffany was going to be married in three short weeks, and Shannon was helping her find all the things that young brides need at the last minute to make everything perfect. They had gone to the spa for skin treatments, facials, wraps, manicures, pedicures, and massages, and they had perused the stores they knew so well up and down Rodeo Drive, purchasing different things here and there, and now that it was getting to be shortly after noon, they were both ready for lunch.

They stopped at a little bistro that featured a lovely garden complete with fountain, over hanging trees, and fairy lights wound around lattices that afforded some small semblance of privacy.

The ladies ordered their lunch and each of them was slowly nursing a flavored martini when a thickly muscled, tall, good looking man walked through the patio door of the restaurant. His hair was golden, his skin was tanned, his eyes were blue, and his muscles were enormous. He strode over to the table with a grin and a subtle look of surprise.

"Tiffany! Baby, imagine running into you here!" he said, with a halfcocked smile and a lurid wink. She bounced up out of her seat as Shannon looked up at the man and raised one eyebrow.

Tiffany flashed him a diamond bright grin and squealed, "Ronnie! How are you doing?" she gushed, as if there couldn't possibly be anyone else on the planet she would rather see.

He reached around her thighs with both arms and lifted her off the ground, holding her tightly to him and grinning with a soft moan as she leaned in and kissed his mouth softly and quickly. He shook his head at her and smiled, letting her slide down his torso slowly until both of his hands were clasped tight around her ass and his fingers found their way beneath the hem of her mini skirt.

He stroked his fingers back and forth where they could barely be seen and he planted his mouth on hers firmly, kissing her hard and deep for a long moment, both of them beginning to moan to each other, and then he very slowly let her down all the way, until her toes touched the ground.

She looked up at him with a shine in her eyes and a wide, happy grin, and he squeezed her ass tightly with both of his hands and then leaned down and kissed her hard, again.

"You need to come by and see me, and then we need to go spend some real time together soon. It's been too long since I had you all to myself,” he said in a low sexy voice. She giggled and turned her head away from him in a pseudo coy move and he grunted at her as if he was hungry for her.

She seemed to have forgotten that she wasn't alone until Shannon, who had watched the entire interaction with disgust, coughed loudly and continuously until Tiffany turned and glanced at her friend over her shoulder.

"Oh, uh, Ron, you remember my friend Shannon, right?" she asked lightly as if they had all been friends. Shannon vaguely remembered meeting him once at the gym.

Ron looked at Shannon and jerked his head slightly. "What's up?" he asked coolly, and then turned his attention back to the blonde-haired woman in his hands. "So let's get this thing going, alright, babe?" he said with a wide grin and another wink.

She nodded enthusiastically, and kissed him intimately again before he waved and strutted off. She sat down next to Shannon once more with a day dreamy look in her eyes.

Shannon narrowed her eyes at Tiffany. "Who was that?" Shannon asked, with irritation.

Tiffany rolled her eyes. "Oh, he's just a friend. He's so amazing, isn't he?"

Shannon lowered her brows at Tiffany. "I have guy friends, Tiff, that's not how we hug each other and say hello. Not even my close guy friends."

Tiffany shrugged and sipped her martini. "So what do you think you'll order for lunch? I hear the French Onion soup here is to die for."

Shannon leaned back in her chair and shook her head. "Oh no you don't. I want to know what's going on between you and
Ronnie
."

Tiffany shrugged and looked away from her, checking out the menu with laser beam intensity. "Caesar salad could be good, too."

"Tiffany!" Shannon snapped at her friend and nudged her with her elbow. "Spill it!"

Tiffany sighed and looked at her friend with a small smile and slightly guilty eyes. "Well, I guess I could tell you, but you have to swear that you won't say anything to anyone." She thrust her hand out and waggled her pinky finger in Shannon's face. "Pinky promise me?"

Shannon sighed. She rarely failed to feel as if they were in high school when it came to the way that Tiffany often acted. Shannon obliged her and held her pinky finger out, and the two of them curled their fingers together and solidified the vow with a solemn promise not to share any information about what was going to be disclosed between them, with anyone else.

Pinky promise made, Tiffany breathed an audible sigh of relief and leaned forward to confide in her best friend. "Well," she said in a hushed voice with a conspiratorial air, "I met Ron at the gym a little while back, and he was helping me with my workouts every day because he's a personal trainer. Then day, we were in the yoga room working on stretches, and things got really hot between us and we just kind of... did it.

He is
so
good, Shannon, you have
no
idea. Anyway, we just kind of fool around now on the side, and we sneak some hanky panky at the gym when I'm there, but that's it." She grinned as if she had just shared the location of Amelia Earhart's lost plane.

Shannon, who could not believe what she had just heard, stared at her friend in poorly disguised horror. "Tiffany! You've got to be kidding me! How could you do that? You're getting married to Colby in three weeks!"

Tiffany slumped in her seat for a moment and pouted, pushing her little red lips out in a frown. "Yeah. I know. It's not super serious or anything, it's just for fun and we always use condoms and stuff. So, it's not like it's hurting anyone; it's really just... recreational."

Shannon's heart twisted in her and she tried not to glare at her friend, but it was hard to do. "Tiff, you go to the gym every day!"

Tiffany grinned and winked at her. 'Yeah, it's so great! God, he's so good." Then she realized what Shannon was saying and she piped up, "Yeah, I do go to the gym every day, but he doesn't work every day!"

Shannon leaned back in her seat and kept her expression stoic, but raised one eyebrow. "So how many days a week do you see him?"

Tiffany shrugged again. "Oh, five or six, maybe." She smiled at the thought of being with Ron.

Shannon shook her head at her friend in disappointment. "What are you going to do in three weeks when you get married?"

Tiffany laughed out loud. "Keep using condoms!"

The waitress came up just then and Tiffany was too distracted with her complicated order to pay attention to the look that Shannon gave her. She was thoroughly disgusted and felt horrible for Tiffany's fiancée, Colby, for many reasons.

Then she thought on it further, having just seen the two of them in public and Shannon knitted her brow. "Are you only seeing him at the gym?"

Tiffany giggled again. "No... sometimes we run into each other in different places. Like... today. This was an "accident." Tiffany curled her fingers in air quotations when she said accident. "It's not serious; he is just a toy for fun. That's all."

It was then that Tiffany saw the expression on Shannon's face, and Tiffany grew defensive. "Listen, it's no big thing. Don't get all judgey on me, okay? He's just for fun. It's not like Colby's ever going to find out. Seriously, it's just for a good time, that's all. Don't tell me you never bent the rules just a little bit to have some fun." Tiffany eyed Shannon as if they were sharing each other's dirty little secrets in clandestine pink ribbon trim.

Shannon shook her head. "I've never done what you're doing."

Tiffany waved her hand casually in the air. "Well, someday you will and then you'll love it. It's so naughty!" She giggled at the thought of it.

Shannon sighed. "I just hate the thought of Colby being hurt, that's all."

Tiffany's eyes narrowed at her. "Colby can't be hurt by it, because he's never going to find out, so there's nothing to worry about, is there!" She looked keenly at Shannon, making sure that she was getting her point across.

Their server delivered their food and the mood lightened again almost immediately. Shannon ate a few bites of her meal and then looked at Tiffany curiously. "What was Ron talking about when he said you two were going to get together for some real time?"

Tiffany ignored the question for a moment, then shrugged, and giggled, leaning in closer to her friend. "Well, it's a big secret, but I'll tell you. I trust you." The corners of her red lips turned upward in a menacing way.

"See, I am going to tell Colby that my dad needs me to go away for business out of town for about a week or so, and Ronnie and I are going to go to Aspen, Colorado. My dad has a cute little condo up there where we ski, and we want to hit the slopes before the season ends for spring, so we're going to go up there in a few days. Isn't that naughty!

I'm such a little stinker, but I'll tell you what, a whole week of playing around in Aspen and screwing Ron till his thing falls off sounds like a damn fine week to me!"

Shannon felt her stomach turn and she wasn't sure if she was going to throw up or not. "You're doing this right before your wedding?” she asked, in a thin voice, hardly able to speak.

Tiffany just nodded enthusiastically and giggled some more. "Yeah, it's so scandalous! I love it. It makes me feel hot!" She winked at her friend. "Let's call it a pre-honeymoon."

Shannon couldn't do much more than shake her head and feel sick about it. Tiffany went on and on about the trip and how hot Ron was, and all the while, all Shannon could do was think of poor Colby, who would be waiting at the end of the aisle for a lie.

Shannon tried not to think of Colby too often, because when she did, all it did was hurt her. He was sweet and cute in a shy, grown-but-boyish kind of way. He was always dressed well and he walked around in a tie with his glasses on and his eyes cast downward most of the time, but when he did look up and make eye contact... oh then... his brilliant blue eyes sparkled and shone, set off by his pale skin and dark black unruly hair.

When he smiled, he had a deep dimple in each cheek that could undo her heart in a single second. She was sure that many people never took a good look at him; he was extremely intelligent and soft spoken, and those two things combined made for the quiet guy in the corner who no one talked to, unless that someone happened to be paying all of her attention to him and happened to be named Shannon.

She had developed the world's biggest crush on him, and he had no idea at all. If it had to do with women, he couldn't have seen it coming if it had fallen out of the sky, landed on his face and done an Irish jig. That was another of the sweet and simple things she loved about Colby; he was infinitely brilliant, but woefully lacking in social skills and common sense. To most people, his shyness was awkward or embarrassing, but to her, it just made him all the more charming and adorable.
