“We really did this the wrong way round, didn’t we?” I say with a laugh. Alex looks at me quizzically. “Well, we got married, then we fell in love. We never even had a first date.”

Alex grins at me. “That does sound crazy when you put it that way.”

“What, more crazy than getting married only two weeks after meeting you?” I retort and Alex just grins.

Alex gently brings his mouth down onto mine and I sink into his kiss. Without a doubt, Alex Davenport is the best thing that has ever happened to me. He owns me mind, body and soul. Which should terrify the life out of me, but instead makes me feel cherished and loved. And I guess the secret is that I own his; together we are the halves that make us whole.

It is a year since Liv became his wife and he has been determined to do something special for their anniversary to celebrate. At long last, he is going to take her on a first date. It has taken some planning, but finally he has put together something he thought she would love.

The last year of his life has been full of light. She is the antithesis to the darkness that he had held on to in his soul. She showed him how to become the man he was destined to be and for that he is eternally grateful. She even encouraged him to meet up with Becca to find some peace.

He had always wondered if the way things happened had hurt Becca as much as it had him. When they finally met again, on a trip back home with Liv, he finally managed to get some closure with her assurances that his behaviour hadn’t actually scarred her for life. It seems silly now, looking back, to have held on to the angst for so long, but the mind fuck he had given himself over the supposed expectations of others meant he had trapped himself in a cycle of loathing and self-pity.

Alex shakes his head, dispelling thoughts of everyone but Liv. He checks his watch and sees that he still has half an hour before he is due to pick Liv up. This morning he had been in their walk-in wardrobe, trying to find a tie, when he spotted the gorgeous dress Liv had worn on their wedding day. It had been so simple yet classically elegant and perfect for her. When he had found out she had shunned the dresses costing thousands of dollars and picked a simple chain store dress for a couple hundred dollars, he had known that he had a keeper; for too long he had been surrounded by women just wanting him for his money and status. He had pulled the dress out, and when he asked if she would wear it, her eyes had shone. She had simply nodded, tugging on her bottom lip with her teeth in a way that always makes him horny.

He pats his jacket pocket, making sure that it is still there, despite checking it only five minutes ago. He is a little nervous about offering his gift to Liv, though he has no doubt that she won’t turn him down. But it took him ages to find the right collar for her and he hopes that she will love it as much as he does. The collar is actually a long chain made of platinum with a small loop in the end. The other end of the chain is fed through the loop and then a beautiful heart-shaped lock is clipped on the end to stop the necklace from coming undone. It is a discreet version of a slave collar, not that he wants Liv as his slave, but since she already has his ring he wanted to offer something more personal as her Dom. Tiny diamonds and sapphires sparkle on the chain and the lock matches. Overall he is rather proud of his choice.

He can’t wait any longer and steps into the car. The journey from his office is short, and soon he is pulling up in front of his own front door. He picks up the posy of hot-pink gerbera, Liv’s favourite, tied up with ribbon and then makes his way up the steps. He rings the bell and hears Liv’s heels clicking on the tile floor of the entrance hall. She opens the door with a shy smile that blows him away. “Happy anniversary, Liv,” he says, moving to kiss her on the cheek. “You look stunning.”

And she does. She has filled out the dress slightly since their wedding day, making her curvaceous and seriously sexy. He spots the top of her nude stockings as she reaches up to unhook her coat, forcing him to take a deep breath and temper his arousal. His plans for this evening are too important for him to lose it now and jump her like a horny teenager. He helps her into her long black coat, discreetly inhaling her scent as he lifts her hair out the collar. She pulls on a soft scarf, winding it around her neck to protect her from the frigid November air.

A moment later they are stepping out into the snow, his arm around her waist as he guides her across a couple of slippery patches of ice. “Slightly different weather from the last time I wore this,” Liv laughs, and he finds himself smiling widely back at this beautiful woman who has captured his heart. He may be her husband and her Dom, but she owns him mind, body and soul.
