“No trouble at all. I would like us to be friends, and you can meet Kurt’s sister too.” Nadine smiled sadly, “I hope you will come. I think your aunt would really like to meet you. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to lose contact with part of your family like that. Please say you’ll come.”

“I will,” Bliss said, and meant it. This was her chance at a new start. She just had to deal with her brothers first.

“I’ll wait in the truck,” Hugo said, walking away from her after planting a brief kiss of support on her cheek.

Bliss went over to her brothers. “I am going home with Hugo.”

“OK. We’ll catch up tomorrow,” Cole said.

“That’s it?” She folded her arms across her chest.

“Yes. We can survive without you,” Riley said firmly. “You go and have some fun.”

“And Sol?” she asked.

“He is going to bed. He is tired out. Don’t worry; we’ll make sure he stays there.” Cole turned her round and pushed her towards Hugo’s truck. “Go.”

She walked away, finding it easier than she thought. Maybe the oath was really broken. But just for good measure, she turned back to Cole and Riley. “You aren’t planning anything, are you?”

“Like what?” Cole asked innocently.

“You know what.”

“No. We have decided we are going to make love not war.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Why does that not make me feel at ease?”

“We have a new competition: who can find their mate first. Tomorrow we are going to go into Wolf Valley and meet as many eligible females as we can.”

She rolled her eyes. “I don’t know who I feel more sorry for, the poor people you have already stolen from or the poor unsuspecting women whose hearts you hope to steal. God help the women of Wolf Valley.” But she had to admit, she felt better about leaving them knowing they were not about to go out on another raid. Those days were behind them now.

“Good night, Bliss,” Riley came up to her and hugged her close, whispering, “Thank you,” in her ear. Then he kissed her before turning around and walking back to the house.

“Tomorrow we are going to do the place up,” Cole said. “Sol will be working so hard, he won’t even think about running up the mountain again. So enjoy yourself, Bliss. And don’t worry.”

Her three brothers went inside the house, and she was left standing alone. That wasn’t true. Behind her, Hugo was waiting patiently in his truck to take her home. His home, the place that would soon be her home too.

With a smile on her face, she turned and ran to the truck, opening the door and climbing in.

“Drive fast,” was all she could say.

Hugo didn’t need any further encouragement. The night was settling in around them by the time they reached his farm. This time she didn’t notice the stars in the sky, all she could think about was Hugo, and the feel of his hands on her body.

This day had been the longest of her life, but it had also been a turning point. The woman who had run from Hugo last night was different to the one who now went with him, hand in hand to the bedroom. She hadn’t eaten all day, but her desire for him chased her hunger away.

She had changed when she was at her house, but her clean clothes didn’t last long, his desire for her too strong.

“We have all night,” she reminded him, when he nearly shredded her shirt as he tore it from her body.

“I bet you say that to all the women who make love to you.” She kissed his neck, and his hand went into her hair, fisting it, dragging her mouth to his.

Before he claimed her mouth, he said, “I have never said those words to another woman Bliss, and I never will. This bond will never be broken.”

Rising up, she took him inside her over and over again, her lips crushed by his, her breasts sore and swollen from his wonderful touch.
