She
listened to every word he spoke while also trying to find a way out. The danger
she was in was growing.

Her
body shook with the fear that gripped her.

“Matt’s
father was the stronger of the two. He fought the hardest, but he still
witnessed his mate’s death far before his own. Some of the men I work for like
hand to hand combat while another likes forcing a woman under him, if you get
my meaning.”

His
meaning dawned, and Cynthia’s fear took full hold. They raped, hunted, and
killed werewolves, and she knew she was one or at least they thought she was
one.

Moving
from the bed she slammed her arms against the metal bars.

“Let
me out!” She grabbed the metal bars and started shaking them. The muscles in
her arms ached from lack of use.

Frank
took a step back. “You’re going to be a fighter. I like that.”

She
scowled at him. “They’ll be coming for me.”

“They
have no idea where you are.”

Cynthia
smiled. They would find her. “Do you know why you find a mated pair together?”
she asked.

He
stared at her. On the outside he didn’t look affected by her words, but she
scented the fear gripping him. “A mate always knows how to find his woman, and,
Frank, I’ve got two mates on the lookout for me. I hope you packed plenty of
guns. You’re going to need them.”

She
grabbed the bars and believed in her strength. The metal began to bow without
her breaking a sweat.

The
metal moved until she could fit through the gap.

“Shoot
her,” Frank said.

Staring
at the small man she charged for him. The gun fired a single dart into her
chest. She looked at the dart in her chest and noticed her breasts. Cupping her
breasts she smiled. They reminded her of the dream she had. The mounds filled
her palms. Her hair cascaded around her body, and the locks looked luscious and
full of life.

Grabbing
the dart she pulled the offending weapon out of her chest.

The
man stared wide-eyed up at her.

“I
bet you weren’t expecting that.” She threw the dart at the man. Frank ran out
of the room.

She
reached out wrapping her fingers around the small man’s neck. “Tell me how to
get out of here.”

Cynthia
felt powerful. The man in her hands looked terrified. The scent of his fear
invaded her nostrils.

“Now!”

He
pointed out of the door. Throwing the man against the wall, Cynthia charged for
the door.

Men
stood waiting with their guns trained at the door. The tranquilisers hit her
skin sinking their sleeping drug into her body. Her eyes drooped, and she
collapsed on the floor. Frank gazed down at her smiling.

“I
always win.”

“I’m
… going … to … kill … you…” Her words fell silent as sleep claimed her. The
power inside her disappeared as fast as it had appeared.

“Please,
stop. We did what we had to. They told us who you were and that they’d protect
us if we kept their secret. Put him down, please,” the woman begged.

Kris
grabbed her around the throat. “What?”

“She’s
telling the truth. Please, let her go. They gave us no choice.”

Kris
dropped the woman to the floor, and Matt followed him out the door. Their men
were waiting for them outside the supermarket. After they’d mourned their dead
they’d all agreed to go and claim their queen.

The
idea to go back to the town where the guy had pressed the silver-bound book to
his arm had entered Matt’s mind. They were all naked as they walked up to the
supermarket. The moment he got to the town he’d scented their fear. Watching
Kris kill the first human male filled Matt with regret.

He’d
hoped to find a kind of peace with the humans. Matt was mistaken. The woman’s
husband had begged and pleaded for them not to kill her. Kris had held her neck
against his lips. The canines had grown ready to strike her neck.

“They’re
up at the hunting lodge near the mountains. It used to be a zoo, but budget
cuts closed it down a few years ago. It’s now a place to hunt,” the man said.

Matt
knew his friend was tempted to end her life.

“Think
about Cynthia. She wouldn’t want this,” Matt said.

“You
don’t know what she’ll want or what those animals have done to her.” He’d
dropped the woman to the floor regardless. All of them made their way up the
mountain. His sense of smell hadn’t returned completely. Only the strongest of
aromas were clear.

He
thought about his woman. When he’d first
turned,
his
mother and father were there to comfort him. He’d known what was happening the
entire time. Cynthia didn’t have anyone with her. All she had was humans who
were intent on killing her.

“She’s
got to be here,” Kris said. “We’d have felt her death if she wasn’t.”

The
sound of a gunshot filled the air. His heart raced as he stared up at the
mountain.

“We
need to split up. Whoever you see take them down. I don’t want a chance of the
hunters coming after us again,” Kris said, running for the trees.

Matt
nodded his head then charged a bit farther up. He needed to run. His gut was
telling him he was running out of time.

Chapter
Eleven

Cynthia
woke up surrounded by trees. Her gaze started off blurry, and then she was able
to focus. The scent of the dirt invaded her nostrils, and her mouth tasted
acrid. Sitting up she saw she was still naked. The events of the past
twenty-four hours invaded her mind. Her illness, the wolves, the pain, and then
Frank filled her mind.

She
snarled. The sound startled her. She jumped to her feet glancing around her.
Gazing down at her body she saw her breasts and weight hadn’t been a dream. Her
arms were thick with muscles. She poked her stomach and then her thighs. The
added weight should probably bother her. It didn’t. She felt strong, stronger
than she’d ever been in her whole life.

Through
the trees she saw the glinting sun. From the fading light it was nearing
sunset.

You need Matt and Kris.

Sinking
onto her knees she touched the dirt. Everything felt alive. The sounds were
amazing. She could hear the insects moving around and the forest animals
hiding. Every sound was distinctive along with the scent of the animals.

Lifting
her nose to the air she sniffed the air. The action reminded of her of her men,
the way they sniffed her body when they entered the room.

Rustling
came across the edge, and then she smelled death, the same smell she remembered
on Frank. Charging behind the nearest tree trunk she dodged the bullet sailing
toward her. The man wasn’t Frank, but he was a hunter.

“Fuck,
I need to hinder her escape. I missed. Can someone take the shot?”

She
heard the man speak, and her anger increased. They were making it easy for them
to hunt her kind.

You’re a werewolf.

That can’t be possible.

Being a werewolf is better than
being fucking dead.

Cynthia
didn’t have the time for freaking out. She needed to survive the next few
minutes. Closing her eyes she listened to the man talking on his radio.
Dropping to her knees she glanced around the tree. He was trying to reload his
gun.

Before
she had time to debate what she was doing she charged at him. She landed on
him.

“Get
off me, bitch.”

She
growled and sank her teeth into his neck.

He
stared at her in horror, and she felt horrified at what she’d done. Grabbing
the gun she bent the weapon so no one had a chance of firing it.

His
blood filled her mouth. She spat it to the ground. The metallic taste disgusted
her. Another shot rang out, and she cried out as the bullet hit her shoulder.
Running away, she headed for the bushes for protection.

Glancing
down at her shoulder she gasped. The pain was excruciating, and it took her
breath away. Closing her eyes she covered the wound. Blood escaped the wound,
and the bullet remained inside.

She
needed to get it out.

Her
hand changed into a claw. The desire to panic filled her, and then she pushed
it aside. She didn’t have the time to be afraid. If she didn’t get the bullet
out and keep moving she was dead.

“Get
that she-bitch. I want her hurt,” Frank said.

They
were close.

She
hesitated for a second and then sank her claws into the flesh of her shoulder.
Biting her lip until she tasted blood she found the bullet and pulled it out.
The silver burned her.

Throwing
it to the ground she watched in amazement as she started to heal.

Get moving.

“I
hit her, Sir. She’s around her somewhere.”

The
voice came from behind her. She rested against a rock.

Cynthia
paused, listening.

What a great way to pass your time,
Cynthia. You think you’re going to die, and you end up a werewolf. Instead of
dying from an illness you’re being hunted for sport.

She
should write a book about her survival.

The
man’s boot came into her line of sight.
Instinct taking over,
she bit into his leg, bringing him down to his knees.
Grabbing the gun
she rammed the butt of the gun in his face. Blood spurted out of the cuts, and
he collapsed. She’d not killed him.

Her
body shook. Bending the gun she got to her feet and ran straight into Frank. The
bastard had injected her with a tranquiliser dart.

“That’s
it, baby. There is enough there to calm you down but not make you sleepy.” His
arm wrapped around her waist. “When I saw you I thought you were a scrap of
skin and bones. That transformation sure changed you.”

His
hand moved down her side like a caress. She snarled and pulled away from him.
The gun was trained on her.

“You
know nothing about me,” she said, wiping the blood from her face. Her body felt
heavy from the drugs.

“I
know enough. You’re Cynthia Lewis. Up until twenty-four hours ago you were
dying, and now you’re an animal.”

His
gaze moved down her body. He thought she was an animal, but he continued to
stare at her in appreciation.
The thought of him getting any
pleasure from looking at her filled her with revulsion.

Her
hands fisted at her sides ready to take him on. “Where are your hunters?” she
asked.

He
laughed. “I decided to keep you, little one. I like looking at you.”

Cynthia
stared at him refusing to break his gaze. She needed to kill this man. He’d
hunted her kind and killed them in cold blood.

The
man she’d whacked with the gun grabbed her ankle. The contact shocked her. She
thought she’d knocked him out. Cynthia fell to the floor as his body moved over
her. He held a knife, which he pressed to her neck.

“I’m
going to cut you, bitch.”

Her
hand changed into claws. Staring at the man she brought her hand down killing
him with a single blow. Frank fired a bullet. The knife against her throat was
in her hands, and then she threw it in his direction.

The
fight was on. She hurt all over, but she wanted this man dead. He’d hurt too
many people.

Matt
heard a woman scream. The sound reminded him of Cynthia. Charging in the
direction he paused when a hunter stepped out of the bushes to his right. A gun
was trained on him. Matt hated weapons of any kind. His own beast was weapon
enough.

“You’re
not going anywhere. Your mate is going to be taken away from you. The captain
likes her.” The man sneered at him.

No
man was touching his woman.

“You’re
a dead little wolf. You can’t even change at will.”

He
smiled at the human. The human clearly hadn’t done his homework.

Matt
pounced, changing into human form. The human didn’t stand a chance. Once he’d
taken him down Matt changed back.

The
scent of death overwhelmed him. Glancing down at the ground he spotted a bent
gun. Picking up the device he sniffed the metal. Cynthia had held the gun and
probably bent it. She was alive, and the transition had been real.

He
jumped in the air and then moved in the direction of her scent. He stopped when
he moved to a stone. There was a man lying dead by the stone, but the blood
decorating the stone smelt like Cynthia’s. Running his fingers through the
blood Matt felt the anger grip him.

A
feminine growl rent the air followed by the howl of a man wounded.

Without
waiting for more Matt charged in the direction. What he saw when he moved
through the clearing startled him. A man stood over Cynthia wielding a knife.
His woman was covered in stab wounds. Blood leaked from each wound, and her
face held one large gash from her head down to her chin. She stared up with
terror at the man before her.
