“A good one. You let me get away with dreaming of a life with you.”
Johnny smiled into her hair. “Yes. Yes, I did, but that still doesn’t excuse the trouble you’re in.”
“Always trouble.”
Soon after those last two words, Liz was snoring softly. There would be no sex this morning, but if he knew the woman in his arms half as well as he thought he did, he knew she’d jump his bones before the day was over. She might talk about him being unable to keep his hands to himself, but the real culprit was Liz. Ever since he got to Orlando and moved in, she’d been on him like white on rice, nearly nonstop.
She was either making up for lost time or she was trying out for the real life definition of insatiable.
Johnny closed his eyes and settled in to hold her for a while. He’d contemplate what there was for him to do, what things he might look into for himself and then he’d get up. He’d make a few calls, send out a few inquiries. He’d meant what he said about workshops and maybe even some sort of private songwriting instruction. Excitement raced through him and he’d start working on the professional side of his new life as soon as he could pry himself away from the warm woman who fit so perfect in the curve of his body.
He wasn’t willing to give up even a moment of time with her, but did his best not to get in her way or disrupt her routine. He’d thought earlier about her making up for all those lost years they could have and maybe should have been together. Truth was, he was the one trying to fit a lifetime into mere weeks. He had forever with her and deep down he knew it. She wasn’t going anywhere, at least not without him. He could put energy and focus into himself and find the balance his life needed.
Liz was as much an artist as he was. She understood the delicate ebb and flow of creating something that didn’t exist until words were put on paper, strokes put on canvas, notes plucked on strings. She was giving him encouragement, offering him support to strike out on his own even more than he already had. He hadn’t realized how much he’d been waiting on that very thing until she said it.
She rolled away from him and burrowed deeper into the blankets and pillows. Johnny smiled and flipped her hair with his fingers before slipping out of the bed. She would sleep for several hours and Johnny…? Well, there was more coffee to be had and plans to be made. He wasn’t giving up the surname of Trouble. He had a feeling there were many years left to live up to it. Only this time, there was someone for him to create and make it with.
