“From what I’m seein’ now, it’s difficult to believe it’s the same person too.”

“He’s been a great help to quite a few kids in our school. He’d even helped David here quite a bit.”

Not even looking up, David explained. “I had a rough childhood. My father left when I was three. My mother thought I was too much of a sissy and was always walking around with nothing on to ‘teach me about women’.” Bryan looked pained. For a long moment, no one said anything.

Then Mike reached over and put his hand on David’s shoulder. “It’s amazin’ how quote ‘well meaning’ parents can really hurt their kids, ain’t it?”

“Yeah, I don’t want to talk about it.” David seemed to retreat a bit. Just then a waiter came by with menus. Smitty, Mike, and Sandy all ordered pints. I decided to have a half pint. Since I was driving, I’d better not drink too much.

I turned to Bryan. “Did you guys order yet?”

“Nope, we were just looking over the menus and deciding what to have. I’m gonna go for the fish and chips. David was looking at the BBQ chicken.”

“Those both sound real good. What about you, Sandy?”

“I think the pasta with chicken, sun dried tomatoes, and sweet, roasted red peppers sounds wonderful. How about you guys?”

“I’m going to try the BBQ ribs. Can I try some of your chicken though?”

“Of course you can, Bert.”

Mike and I settled for the burgers. The beer was good, and I was sorry to have to stick with just a half a pint.

“Hey Jeff, Mike, David and I had a great time at your place. We’d really like to come again when David’s leg heals up. Do you know if you have any vacancies in February?”

“I’m glad you guys enjoyed your stay with us. We enjoyed havin’ you. Off the top of my head, I really don’t know when we have vacancies and when we don’t, but I’d be happy to give you a call and let you know when we’re open.”

“That’s great! Thanks. By the way, what do you have for activities in the summer when there’s no skiing?”

“Bryan, if you and David do want to come in the summer, please feel free to suggest any activities ya wanna do. We’re plannin’ on offerin’ trail rides, ridin’ lessons, amateur rodeos, barbeques, campfire singin’ and story tellin’ evenings, multi-day trips into the North Cascades, and anythin’ else we can do that folks might suggest.”

“Amateur rodeos? Who is going to do that?” David looked from me to Mike.

“Jeff, Mike, Smitty, and José with my and Maria’s help.”

“You guys do rodeos?”

Mike smiled. “We sure do. By the way, rodeo out by us is a verb. So we’d say we rodeo.”

“We went to a gay rodeo once, didn’t we Bryan?”

“We did. It was the Bay Area Rodeo near San Francisco, last year.”

“I reckon, dependin’ on when you were there, you mighta saw me. I bucked in that rodeo.”

“Really, I wish I remembered seeing you. Do you remember Jeff from there, David?”

“Did you ride bulls?”

“Yep, got a buckle too.”

“Then we saw you.”

“Too bad we didn’t meet then. Mike and I are gonna team rope and buck in the Arizona Gay Rodeo next month.”

“Let’s go, Bryan. We had fun last time we went.”

“That sounds like a plan. We can be there to cheer you on.”

“Now that I know you guys, I wouldn’t feel weird coming up to say hi.”

Mike had a quizzical look on his face. “Why would you feel weird, David?”

He looked down at the table. “I’m not too good with people. I never know what to say or do.” Bryan patted his shoulder.

I had to say something. “Well, David, I think you do just fine. I’m proud to be your friend and so’s Mike.” He gave me a look like a puppy looking at its new owner.

“We think so too, David, don’t we, Smitty?”

“Sandy’s right, we sure do.”

“Guys, it’d be fun to have you there with us. Mike here’s a gay rodeo virgin. He’s never been to one before.” Mike turned beet red and started to say something, but Sandy broke in.

“I reckon after bein’ with you, Jeff, that’s about the only thing he’s virgin in.” She laughed.

Mike looked at Smitty, but spoke to Sandy. “I don’t ask you about the details of your personal life, and you don’t ask me about mine.” Smitty turned bright red now.

“I’m just funnin’ with you and Jeff, Mike. I’ve told you time and time again how happy I am you two are together.”

Before either of us could answer, Bryan looked at Mike. “Mike, how come you haven’t been to a gay rodeo yet?”

“I ain’t been outta the closet too long. Jeffy and I just started datin’ last September, and he was the one that got me outta the closet and showed me there’s nothin’ to be ashamed in by bein’ myself.”

“Your father seems to have come to terms with your being gay before you did.”

“Bryan, no offense, but I really don’t want to go into all that. You’re right, but he’s a big part of the reason it took me so long to come out. We’re workin’ on buildin’ some type of a relationship, but just what that’ll be neither of us hardly knows yet.”

“I’m sorry, Mike. I didn’t mean to bring up a sore subject for you.”

“No worries. I reckon it won’t be the last time someone who’s gay has met my dad before me and has only seen the good side.”

“It is kind of difficult though, to believe that you’ve only been out for five months or so. You seem so at ease with yourself and your relationship with Jeff.”

“Thanks Bryan. Jeff showed me there’s no reason to be ashamed.” I smiled at Mike and squeezed his thigh under the table. We were all quiet for a moment. It was obvious that Bryan and David really admired and liked Mr. Guidry and weren’t comfortable talking about his homophobic past, so Bryan changed the subject.

“I hear you, Mike, and one of your hands had a big shock a bit ago.” Bryan now had a somber look on his face.

“Yeah, he did, the hand is my brother. He’s actually the one that skied up to the body first.”

“Jason? That must’ve been quite a shock for him.”

“That it was. They’ll catch the guy though.”

“There was another shock for Jeff and Mike. The Cutter tried to kidnap Mike.” Bryan stared at Smitty open mouthed. David looked down at the table.

“What?” Bryan finally managed to stammer it out.

“Jeffy and I were out skiin’. I got a bit ahead and skied past a van. Some guy in a mask jumped out and put a rag with chloroform over my face. If Jeffy wouldn’t have saved me, it’d be my body out there all cut up.”

“Hey guys, how about we change the subject. The Cutter really isn’t good dinner conversation.”

“Right ya are, darlin’.” Sandy smiled back at me.

We were saved from picking a new subject by the arrival of our food. We continued having a nice conversation and dinner with Bryan and David. We got a list of dates that Bryan and David were free, and I promised to let them know which days we had vacancies. All too early, we headed out to pick up the horse trailer and head back across the pass. We were looking at a four and a half to five hour drive back to the ranch. I was a little concerned about snow on the pass. Rain down here means snow up there. We headed back to Lisa’s and hitched up the trailer. She was interested in visiting the ranch also, so it looked like we could fill up a few of the rare vacancies we had. Despite my concerns, it was a pretty uneventful drive across the pass. I took my time and just drove slowly. Sandy fell asleep almost immediately. Smitty was pretty quiet, but he’s normally a quiet guy.

He did speak up after a while. “It was nice to run into Bryan and David again. They’re pretty nice guys.”

“Yeah, it was. It’d be nice to have them come back.” I answered softly as to not wake Sandy.

Mike responded to my comment. “Yeah, it would be nice. Maybe the four of us could go out skiing sometime.”

“That would be fun, buddy. Smitty, we gotta get you to go with us. Sandy’s a very good skier. Maybe all four of us could go sometime.”

“It’s a lot of work, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, it is, but if you started and stuck with it a while, Sandy wouldn’t complain about you havin’ no butt.” I kept a straight face. Mike couldn’t help but chuckle.

“She really said that?” He sounded very self-conscious. Before I could answer, I heard Sandy answer sleepily from the back seat.

“No, I never said that. Jeff’s pullin’ your leg again.” We all laughed then, including Smitty.

Sandy spoke up again. “Bryan and David are nice guys, but don’t you think David is a little different?”

“To me, he seems like a stereotypical computer guy. You know, brilliant, socially awkward, maybe a bit in his own world.”

Mike nodded. “I reckon so too. I reckon computers are a good thing. Thirty years ago, with his social skills, he’d be flippin’ burgers, and now he can get a really good job and enjoy himself while workin’.”

“In any case it was nice to run into them again. By the way, Jeff, how long is Holder stayin’ with you? Mr. Dobbins wanted to know if I could work a few days at the Saloon.”

“Should be no problem at all. He’s leavin’ tomorrow afternoon. We’re not gonna be full up ‘til this weekend. So I reckon we can handle it. ’Course the dudes are really gonna miss your cookin’.”

“You and Mike are good cooks also.” She giggled.

“Yeah, but we ain’t as pretty as you. Right, Mike, Smitty?” They both chorused yes.

“You guys are gonna make me blush.” I could see her in the rearview mirror. Despite her mild protest, she had a big smile on her face. We had reached the highway which went up into the valley, so we turned off. I slowed down even further. With all the snow we had, there was a lot of wildlife by the roads. We finally made it to the ranch. Sandy headed home while Smitty, Mike, and I began to unload the horses. José, Josh, and Jason came from the bunkhouse to help.

“Nice horses, boss. Now I understand why you said they shine.”

“They are nice, aren’t they, José? You guys have some stalls ready?”

“We sure do, Jeff. Three clean stalls with oats and hay in the mangers and plenty of water in the troughs. They’re next to one another, too, so the horses are gonna feel more comfortable.” Josh was examinin’ the horses as he spoke.

“Can I lead one in?”

“Sure, Jason, you really want to learn to cowboy bad, don’t ya?” I noticed he’d lost the eyebrow piercing. He now just had earrings.

He nodded at my question. “I wanna be able to help you and Mike, and I’m the only one around who doesn’t really know anything about horses and cattle.”

“You are doing very well, mi amigo. He learns fast, Smitty.” José spoke to Smitty.

Mike agreed. “Yeah, it’s amazin’ just how much you’ve learned in a short time, Jason. Pretty soon, you’re gonna be one hell of a good waddie.” Jason gave Mike a perplexed look.

Josh explained. “Waddie’s another name for a cowboy, Jason.”

“Oh, okay.” Since the stalls were all ready, we got the horses in ’em in record time. The guys headed off to the bunkhouse, and Mike and I headed inside.

I
WAS
taking my coat off when Mike jumped me. I found myself wrapped in his arms and my mouth pressed against his. I opened it and his tongue entered, dueling with my own. He held me tightly and pushed against me. He bit my lip gently and then a bit harder before breaking the kiss and looking into my eyes.

“Wow, buddy, that’s a real nice glad-to-be-home kiss and welcome.”

“It just turned me on watchin’ you buy the horses. You knew what you wanted, and you took charge. That gets me goin’.”

“Let’s go upstairs then.” I kicked my boots off and left my hat laying where it fell. When we got to the bedroom, Mike was on me again. Between kisses, clothes started flying everywhere. Finally we were both bare-assed, standing in front of the bed. Mike grabbed my ass and used it to pull me against him.

“Jeffy, I wanna fuck you. I want inside you, and I wanna make you feel as good as you make me feel.” I had to think on that one for a second. I wasn’t much of a bottom, and I’d only been fucked twice in my life, once by Mike. The other time had not been a pleasant experience. I looked at him and saw the want in his eyes coupled with a questioning look, as if he were asking permission.

“That sounds nice, buddy. I’d like you inside me too.” I stepped backward with him still wrapped in my arms. And then fell back on the bed. Mike twisted a bit so I was on my back and he was on his side next to me, leaning over me. One of his arms was under my shoulders. With his other hand, he rubbed my beard. We continued to kiss, a bit gentler now, not quite so rough. I could feel his hard cock against my thigh. He was pushing against it and using his precum as lube. His hand worked its way down the treasure trail on my belly and into my bush. He rubbed a bit and then moved down to stroke my cock a few times and cup my balls. After a few minutes of fondling, he moved down between my legs to my ass. He started teasing the hole with his fingers. I spread my legs a bit to give him better access.

“You want this, Jeffy?” He stared down at me.

“I do, buddy. I want you.” He reached over to the nightstand and brought out a bottle of lube. He put it on his fingers and rubbed it on my hole. He then drizzled some on my dick and balls. He set the lube down and moved his finger against the opening. I felt pressure as he gently pushed against me, and then I opened up. He gently moved his finger in and out a few times.

“I’m gonna fingerfuck you good, Jeff. Give you a nice prostate massage.” I smiled up at him.

“Feels nice, bud.” Mike was taking his time. He kept moving his finger until I loosened up a bit and then inserted another finger. We were kissing all the time. His fingers hit my gland and began to massage it. I leaned back and moaned in pleasure. I looked up at him. He looked happier than a tick on an old hound. He was watching my dick. It was rock hard and twitching against my belly in a lake of precum.

“See how good it feels, Jeff? This is how you make me feel. Just lie back and let me do the work. I’m gonna take care of my Jeff.” I gave in to the sensations and just enjoyed. I focused on him, watching my enjoyment, getting off on it.” We looked at one another, communicating wordlessly, both reveling in the love, trust, and enjoyment flowing back and forth between us. I felt a sudden stretching and realized he’d stuck another finger up my ass. He continued massaging my prostate.
