“Right,” she whispered, as she leaned in and grazed the tip of her tongue over the edge of his earlobe. He groaned and walked faster. Once they got to her bedroom, he kicked the door open and carried her through.

He laid her on the bed then took a minute to remove his pants before crawling on top of her. He played with the button of her pants, and his lips met hers again, engulfing her mouth. Now unfastened, he removed her jeans in one quick movement. His cock pressed against her swollen sex. Reaching up her shirt, his fingers made small circles around her nipple until it stood erect. As soon as the tiny peak formed, he moved across her chest, finding the other and doing the same, until the sides were equal.

Pushing him away, she sat up and removed her shirt, unfastened her bra and tossed it aside. Then she tugged at the bottom of his shirt, pulled it over his head, and flung it to the floor. A grin spread across his face, and before she could get lost in his dimples, he had her flat on her back, his body melting into hers and hand buried between her folds.

He stroked her clit, her wetness increasing with each movement. Stripping her panties from her damp skin, he thrust his pointer finger into her, sending shivers through her body and a scream from her throat. She sucked on his bottom lip, trying to abstain from crying out. He withdrew for a second then entered her again, this time with two digits. Biting down harder, she squirmed, ass sliding over the warm sheets, her toes curling.

“Do you have something?” He backed away, staring straight at her.

Closing her eyes, she hung her head a little. The move to the bedroom had been an unexpected turn of events, and she certainly hadn’t expected to need protection. “No.” She thought for a moment, deciding whether she wanted to share the next bit of information with him. “I can’t get pregnant though.” Her stomach tightened as she waited for his response. He had no reason to take her word for it. Explaining would definitely kill the mood, and that was only if she decided to tell him.

He didn’t flinch though. Instead, he ran a soft hand up the side of her torso. “Well, if you are okay with it, I can guarantee you I don’t have any diseases.”

Under normal circumstances, she would never take a guy at his word, but between the dimples and the soft way he touched her, she couldn’t make herself believe he would lie. Grabbing the short hair at the back of his head, she pulled him close and began kissing him again. A few seconds of wiggling, and his boxers were gone, freeing his erection. It rubbed against her stomach; the drops of liquid rubbing in to her skin. Adjusting his position, he allowed the head of his cock to rest on her clit, teasing her for a second before he entered. Falling into rhythm, her hips bucked against his, each time eliciting a small gasp past her lips. He kissed her neck, trailing from the bottom of her ear to her collarbone, then returning to her mouth before working his way down the other side over her jaw.

He reached between their glistening skin and rubbed her swollen bud, moving first in large circles, then smaller ones, until his focus was on the center. As she moaned loudly, he pressed his mouth against hers, muffling her cries. Her toes curled as they began to tingle, the warmth around her clit moving through her whole body. Gut tightening, she could feel her body pulsate. Above her, he trembled, his eyes focused on her as his fingers worked even harder to bring her to orgasm. Then his body spasmed as he came inside her. The sensation of his climax sent her over the edge, her body bucking against his.

For a moment, neither moved, both breathing heavily. He rolled to one side, pulling her against his side, and she laid her head on his chest. Eyelids heavy, she closed her eyes, promising herself that it would just be for a moment.

Cara rolled over, arm swinging through the air before landing with a bounce on the mattress. It didn’t feel right, but her brain was too foggy to figure out why. Willing her eyes open, she stared at the empty side of her bed. She was alone.

Damn it. This was exactly why she had wanted to meet at the theatre. She normally wouldn’t sleep with a guy until after a few dates, but it had been a year since anyone had made her feel beautiful—not just said it, but actually made her think it could be the truth. Rubbing her cheek, she got out of bed and wrapped the oversized blue, fuzzy robe around herself. It was too early for alcohol, but she’d settle for a hot cup of coffee.

Walking down the stairs, she swore she could already smell the coffee brewing. At first, she thought she was crazy, but the moment she entered the kitchen, she eyed the full pot. She wondered how much she’d drank last night. Sometimes, she set the automatic timer on the coffeemaker so that she wouldn’t have to wait when she woke up, but couldn’t remember doing anything of the sort last night.

“You look confused.” She spun around to find Anthony sitting at the kitchen table, a mug in one hand and the morning paper in the other. “Come, sit.” Too shocked to speak, she poured herself a cup of coffee and sat down across the table from him.

“I hope you don’t mind. I woke up early and didn’t want to wake you. I picked up some muffins from the place down the street,” he said, motioning toward a plate full of huge muffins on the table.

Mind? She had gone from being outraged to completely impressed in just a matter of seconds. Guilt set in. She had doubted him, even if it was just for a few minutes. There weren’t many guys left in the world who could stand to be with her. Somehow, she couldn’t afford to question him.

“You thought I left, didn’t you?” He picked up the plate of muffins and held it out to her. Biting her lower lip, she grabbed a lemon poppy seed one and pulled a napkin from the center of the table. She set her muffin down, removing a tiny piece from the top.

“No.” Even she didn’t believe it. Putting the bite in her mouth, she kept her gaze on the oak surface, hoping he wouldn’t see her embarrassment. “Okay, maybe. But can you blame me? I wake up the morning after we sleep together and you aren’t there anymore.”

Anthony laughed, then reached across and rubbed her hand. “Point taken. Next time I will definitely stay in bed, wake you up from a deep sleep, and not buy you any muffins.”

Breaking off a piece of her pastry, she threw it at him. He managed to dodge out of the way. “Can I tell you something?”

His dimples faded, and he leaned toward her. “Anything.”

“The scar. I want to tell you how I got it.” He nodded and took her hand in his, squeezing it tightly. “There was an accident, just after Christmas last year. Some drunk guy slid on the ice and crashed straight into my car.” She swallowed hard. It was the first time she was recounting the story to anyone outside her immediate circle. “I was pretty screwed up. It took a lot of surgeries and rehab sessions, but they managed to get me mostly put back together.”

He stared at her, his eyes lit with concern. “Is that why you can’t have children?”

She tipped her head back to keep the tears from flowing down her cheeks. She bit her lip and nodded. With her hand still in his clasp, he moved around the side of the table to sit closer to her.

“I don’t think it hurt your look at all. You are still the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” He kissed her cheek, right where her scar split the skin.

With her free hand, she grazed the spot with her fingertips. Instead of shame, she felt relieved. She smiled. “Well, not everyone thinks so. My fiancé broke things off with me after that. He couldn’t get used to looking at my face.”

Her ex had become a distant memory, but the pain of his actions still bothered her. The first of her tears fell from her lashes to her cheek. She tried to turn so Anthony wouldn’t see, but he grabbed her chin. Reaching up, he used the sleeve of his shirt to brush away the wetness. “He was an idiot and didn’t deserve you.”

For a few more minutes, he just sat with her against him. A weight lifted off her chest. Now he knew the truth. Even if she didn’t fully believe everything he said, she was thrilled to have found someone who thought she was still pretty.

“I have to get home to get ready for work and you probably need to do the same. Are you going to be okay?” The big smile on his face lit up the room, along with the deepening of his dimples. He stood up and kissed her, his lips soft and supple. She leaned into him as he tried to pull away. Squeezing her shoulder, he brought her closer to him as though he had sensed the intimacy she required, before stepping back. “I’ll call you. Really.” She waited until the front door closed before she grinned.

Boy, was she glad she accepted that cup of coffee.

Chapter Three

After the night she had, work was anything but exciting. Normally, the monotonous tasks of filing papers, forwarding emails, and answering phones was enough to keep her occupied, but today her mind kept wandering back to her bedroom. How had she managed to run in to such a great guy? She couldn’t stop thinking about him.

Her cell phone rang, and she pulled it out of the bottom drawer of her desk. Anthony’s name lit across the screen. Christmas must have come early this year.

“Hello?”

“Hey, I know that I just left you a couple hours ago, but I really want to see you again. How about a drink tonight?”

Her heart raced. Even after their morning, she hadn’t believed he’d call. “Sure. Where do you want to go?” Bars weren’t really her scene, and she cringed thinking about all the people who would be staring at her, wondering what had happened to her or why such a handsome man would even consider being seen with her.

“There’s a bar downtown called Cristo’s. You know where it is?”

“Yeah, I’ve seen it before.” Cursing herself for not being braver, she pulled the establishment’s website up on her computer. The smiling twenty-somethings that were in the pictures looked to be exactly the kind of people she typically avoided. If she had been a little more courageous, she’d have suggested another quiet evening at home, but she didn’t want him to think she was the kind of girl that never wanted to go out. She held her tongue. Anthony thought her beautiful and that was enough. Blocking the rest of the place out would be more difficult, but she’d find a way.

“Good. Meet me there at eight.”

Perusing the site, she was a little surprised at his choice of bars. Cristo’s was anything but intimate—more like a place to hang out with a bunch of people you didn’t actually want to talk to and not an environment for a date. They’d done personal though, maybe it was time for a bit of a change.

After a quick stop at home to change out of her stuffy work attire and into something more appropriate for a date, Cara made her way to Cristo’s. It was exactly what she had been dreading. Even though it was early, the place was already overflowing with people; the smokers standing outside, a giant cloud rising above them. As she walked into the bar, people stared at her. Shoving her hands in her jean pockets, she tried to convince herself that it was too dark for them to see her face, and they were just jealous of her black high-heeled boots.

After hanging around the hostess stand for a few moments, she was able to snag a table. Cara absentmindedly snacked on the tortilla chips that had been brought to the table while she waited for Anthony. A quick look at the clock hanging on the bar wall caught her attention. Eight-fifteen. She’d only known him a couple days, but he didn’t seem like the type to be late without calling. Just as she was reaching into her bag to pull out her cell phone, a hand gripped her shoulder. She nearly jumped out of her chair.

Whirling around, her breath caught in her chest. If it was even possible, he had gotten more handsome in the few hours they had been apart. He leaned in and kissed her—a passionate kiss that nearly knocked her off her stool. He released her with his dimpled smile and moved to his stool. She sneaked a peek at his ass. It must have been the jeans he wore, because it looked tighter and more chiseled than before.

From across the table, he stared at her for a moment. His dark eyes focused as though they were looking for something. “What’s wrong?” she asked, shifting in her seat.

“Nothing.” He straightened up in his chair, and leaned across the table to study her.

Raising a hand to her cheek, she couldn’t help but wonder if, now that they were in public, he felt ashamed of being with her. “You’re staring”

“Only because you are so beautiful.” Reaching across the table, he took her hand and squeezed it between both of his. “You cold?”

“Just a little. My hands always have trouble warming up after being outside in the cold.”

“You know what you need?” Before she could even answer, he had called one of the waitresses over.

“Two IPAs.” He’d ordered before she could even get a word in.

“You know, I don’t really like beer.” Cara waved to get the waitress’ attention, but she was too far away.

He shrugged. “Well, it isn’t like we are going to be drinking for long anyway.”

She tried desperately to follow his logic, but her mind just couldn’t get what he was referring to. “We aren’t?”

“Neither of us really want to sit here and drink.”

Her body suddenly felt lighter. Relieved to know this wasn’t really his scene either, she nodded. Maybe the whole point had been to try something new. Now that they knew it wasn’t a good fit, they could go back to her place, curl up in front of the fire, and repeat last night’s events.

Nervously, he looked around. “You want to sneak off somewhere?”

The words where whispered, but even in the noisy bar, she heard exactly what he’d said. Eyeing him, she searched for any sign that he might be kidding. Though he was smiling, the dimples on his face were not nearly as deep as they had been before. Surprised at herself, she was actually considering it. She’d had sex in public areas before, but never with someone she hadn’t known very long, and never with this many people around. The trip back to her place would be incredibly long, and she ached to take him right there.

Still trying to decide if she could risk it, she didn’t have a chance. He grabbed her hand and pulled her out of her seat. She trailed behind him as they weaved through the crowded room. Pushing through a set of the double doors, he steered her toward the men’s restroom. He tried the door. Locked. Dragging her further down the hall, he tried the knob on the women’s room. As the handle turned, he smiled deviously at her.

Almost instantly, her back was against the door, his hands held her wrists tightly against the wood. His lips covered hers with the same force as when he had walked into the bar. Releasing one of her arms, he reached down and pressed the lock on the door. He gave her a devilish then grabbed her, lifting her feet off the floor, and whisked her over to the sink.

“Wait, wait,” she whispered, “shouldn’t we make sure no one else is in here?”

He wasn’t listening though. Hands caressed her skin, pushing her sweater aside and slid up her torso. Reaching beneath her bra, he fondled her breasts, playing with her nipples until they were erect. She stifled a moan. He inched closer to her, his erection pressed against her leg. She grabbed his bulge. He groaned loudly. She was torn between making him moan louder or shushing him so that they wouldn’t be caught. Her mind wasn’t in charge though. She continued to stroke him, moving up and down as best as she could through the thick fabric of his pants. She then wrestled with his button and zipper, releasing them enough to get her hand inside. The light fabric of his boxers allowed her to get a better grip on him.

He pulled her jeans and panties down past her hips in one movement. Hoisting her up, he adjusted her until her ass rested on the edge of the cold countertop.

She moaned as he entered her. Almost instinctively, her legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him deeper into her. She buried her face in his neck, muffling the noises that escaped from her throat.

He rocked against her, pushing her hips into the counter and his cock into her. She could feel her juices flowing.

“Do you like it?” he asked.

She mustered enough control to nod and make a small noise.

“Tell me you like it.”

Controlling her breathing, she fumbled for the words. “I like it.” Her voice was shaky. He pulled out and gripped her waist, setting her off the counter. She cried at the emptiness of her womb, but he spun her around until she saw their reflection in the mirror. His strong, tall body looked huge compared to her slight frame. A hand on her head bent her over. Obeying his thoughts, she arched her back, sticking her ass out as far as she could. He entered her again, his thick cock pushing deep into her. Her one hand held on to the counter while the other tried to minimize the amount of noise she produced. Each thrust deepened, bringing her closer to orgasm. Finally, she allowed her body to give in to its threats. Knees shaking, her muscles tightened, pulsing around his hard member.
