“Is that like a date?” I grin.

“Totally.”

“Good.” I twirl a strand of my hair around my finger. “So, what else has happened that I don’t know about?”

“Um.” He chews on his lower lips. “The cops told me they believe my mother sold me directly to Raphael when I was a baby, but there are no records they can find, so they think that she traveled from another country and had me here...”

“Oh, God, I’m so sorry.” I place my hand over his.

“It’s okay. It doesn’t really matter. Caleb and Jade are my family and they’ll always be,” he says. “I’m also going to get my driver’s license soon. I always liked cars, just didn’t have a chance to drive one.”

“Nice.” I flash him a smile.

“Did Lilith tell you that they arrested the guys who were helping Archer and Raphael get slaves and transport them?” Isaac asks.

“Yeah, she told me. I hope everything’s finally over now and that no one will try to reinstate the business.” Lilith also told me Theo’s slaves have been freed too.

“Me too.”

“Would you like something to drink? A soda maybe?” I hop to my feet.

“Yeah.”

“Great. I’ll go get us some.” As I stride to the kitchen, I can’t stop grinning like an idiot.

I brush Isaac’s hair out of his face, shaking my head. “We’re so going to be late.”

“We won’t. There’s plenty of time.” He straightens his suit jacket. He looks so hot in a suit that I can’t stop staring at him.

“Yeah, except Lilith wants us to be there early for her to make sure everything’s perfect for the wedding. Didn’t Caleb tell you to come earlier too?”

Isaac shrugs. “I don’t know, but this dress looks irresistible on you. Maybe we could...” He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me in for a kiss. I melt into the kiss, even though I know my makeup could get smeared. And naturally, when Isaac pulls away, his mouth is covered in my red lipstick. I try to give him an annoyed look, but I end up laughing instead.

“If you wanted my lipstick, you could have told me and I would’ve given it to you.” I chuckle.

“I want this dress too. Will you take it off, please?” He starts tickling me, and I try to run away.

“Hey, our friends are getting married. We should act like adults... or at least pretend to.” I finally give him a little push and stop in front of the mirror. My hair is still up and my violet dress isn’t wrinkled. I breathe out a sigh of relief. Isaac steps behind me and grazes my earlobe with his teeth.

“Okay.” His lips leave a hot path of kisses down my neck. “Better?”

“Mm hmm.” I close my eyes for a moment. “We should get going.”

Isaac sighs in disappointment, but his eyes sparkle with amusement. “Sure, do you have the car keys?”

“What?” I scowl, turning around to face him. “You had them like ten minutes ago in my room.”

“Our room.” He grins. “Or are you kicking me out already?”

My lips turn into a smile. “I’d never kick you out. I love you. Just get those keys before Caleb and Lilith freak out and start wondering what’s taking us so long.”

“I love you too.” He plants a quick kiss on my lips and rushes toward our room while I go grab my purse and check to make sure I have everything.

“Got them!” Isaac says, triumphantly waving the keys.

“You still have my lipstick all over your mouth.”

“I’m probably going to kiss you like a million times before we get there, so how about we save time and clean that up when we’re there... or we don’t have to. Your choice.” He grins.

I hook my arm through his. “I’ll think about it.”
