Rosie nodded her head and stared at her through narrowed eyes. “That’s fine and dandy. But you and I both know that you didn’t come all the way home, after all this time… just to have my pie.”
She pulled out one of the wooden chairs and the sound of it scraping on the floor brought back memories of various lectures Layla had gotten at this table. Most of them were for getting into fights at school. Tough-Girl-Talks, that’s what Rosie called them.
Layla rubbed the smooth ceramic mug with her thumb and straightened her back in an effort to gather her waning courage. “He found me,” she whispered. Her breath caught in her throat because it was the first time she’d said it out loud. She’d barely been able to admit it to herself. The only thing that she had truly feared happening—had finally happened. She drew in a shaky breath and forced herself to look Rosie in the eye. “My mate found me.”
Writing a book is a solitary process, but actually, publishing one is anything but that. I have so many people to thank, namely the collaborative and creative folks over at Sourcebooks. He may not understand the whole shapeshifter attraction, and I may not agree with his politics… but that’s where unconditional love comes into play. When I get my head in the clouds, he helps me keep my feet on the ground.
