The name Kylie was laid out on the grave, a huge bouquet made up of pink and yellow carnations.

'This is Kylie Frodsham's grave?'

Lasser nodded as he yanked out the paper.

'Lasser what's
going on,
Emma's
distraught
and you go running around like a headless chicken.'

Odette could see the fury in Medea's eyes, the
'for once in your life - can't you just be a normal bloke
' look.

'Sorry Med this could be important,' he mumbled.

'And Emma isn't?'
her anger went up another notch.

Lasser was torn between looking at the note and trying to keep Medea from meltdown.

'One minute I promise and I'll be with you, I just need...'

'Forget it,'
she spat as she turned on her heels and stormed away from them.

'I hope this was worth it,' Odette said as she pointed at the letter.

Lasser grimaced and shrugged before unfolding the slip of paper.

'Hello my friend it's been a while,'
the words were written in long flamboyant loops and swirls.
'I must admit I didn't expect to be back on your patch again but a friend in need and all that... You will find the rest of the drugs in a lockup on Swan Lane, just look for the sign that say's Sponge Bobs Carwash,'
Lasser shook his head in disbelief.

'Amy Frodsham was not a cold hearted killer, but I would imagine you already know that by now, she just needed a little help, and I like to oblige whenever possible. You will find Norvil Mellor back at the yard playing with the dog, or maybe that should be the other way around.

Anyway, if we do chance to meet again then remember ‘you owe me one’ Sergeant Lasser.'

'Come on Lasser what does it say?'

Lasser handed her the paper, in the distance he could see the black limousine containing Medea and Emma pulling out of the gates.

'I don't get it?' Odette looked at him in confusion.

'You remember Bannister was talking about an interested third party?'

'Yeah.'

Lasser nodded towards the gate. 'Well that was him,' he said as he set of walking.

Odette plucked at his sleeve. 'So what happens now?'

Lasser thought for a moment and then his shoulders slumped. 'We'll take your car, I think my lift’s well and truly gone,' he said with a sigh.

'But...'

'I know you're not dressed for it, but how do you fancy a ride out to Mellor's yard?'

'You're an idiot Lasser do you know that?'

When he smiled, there was no warmth, no humour.
'Tell me about it,'
he said as the heavens opened.

This one is for Odette and Val for helping hammer the book into shape.

Thank God they both have eagle eyes and infinite patience, and can spot the mistakes that always remain in the shadows for me.
