“
Thanks,”
Austin said vehemently.
Johnson
went back to the military vehicle and got inside.
“

Johnson replied.

Austin
finally reached the farm. It looked serene. Childhood memories came
back to him as soon as he stepped onto the property.
He
walked right up to the door and knocked gently. “Peter?”
After
a minute of waiting, Austin heard a gun cocking from behind him. He
turned around.
His
uncle looked at him and slowly lowered the gun. “Austin?”
“
Yeah.
I'm sorry to just show up like this, but the cities are
—
“
I
know. You're more than welcome.”
“
I
tried calling, but the phones aren't getting any reception.”
“
It's
a good thing you weren't able to get through. The FBI can trace those
calls, and they would have known you were staying here.”
“

time. And if it does, we have the underground shelter.”
“
How's it been
out here so far? Any panicked trespassers?”
“
Just
a few. I just fired a warning shot, and then they ran away.”
Austin
nodded.
“
Well,
anyway, I'm about to start lunch, so you're just in time.”
“
Sounds
good. I'm just gonna stay out here for a little while longer.”
“
Okay,
see you in a little bit.” Peter walked into the house.
Austin
sat down on the steps and looked outward with a feeling of hope and
accomplishment, taking in the scenery.
