“You and Anslie get along pretty good,” Jase says pulling me to him. He tucks my body into his, and he turns my face to look at him.

“What if I don’t want to pretend?” His question catches me off guard, and I just stare at him like he’s grown another head.

“What do you mean?” I know it’s a stupid question, but I need to ask it.

“I really want to give this a shot. I’m crazy fucking attracted to you, and you’re the first girl I want to protect. I think it could mean something.”

I think I’m hearing things, or my mind is playing tricks on me. “You mean you just want me to sleep with you so you can move on, right?” I ask. He can’t be serious, can he?

He shakes his head, and pulls me over to his bike. “Never mind Wyn. Let’s just get back to the clubhouse. I need to talk to my old man, and he’s waiting for me.”

Without any other words, I get on behind him, and just hold on.

As soon as we get back to the clubhouse, I feel like something is off. I have no idea what it could be, but something’s not right. Getting off of the bike, I scan the parking lot, and come up short.

There isn’t anyone here. He can’t get me while I’m with Jase. He isn’t here.

A hand creeps up my neck, and when I turn, I elbow Jase in the stomach. My hands go to my mouth, and I gasp. “Oh my god, Jase I’m so sorry.” He hunches over, and I feel terrible.

I try to help him, but he swats my hand away. “Fuck Wyn,” he groans when he finally can stand up.

“I’m so sorry,” I say again. His eyes flick to mine, and he gives me a strange look.

“What freaked you out?” he looks around, and then back at me.

“I feel like something is wrong. I don’t know how to explain it.” Before I can say anymore, he grabs my arm, and pulls me into the clubhouse.

“Always trust your gut sugar; it’s probably the only way we are gonna keep you safe. You know him better than we do. If something ever feels wrong, tell me.” I nod my head, and let him lead me towards the room.

When we walk inside, he walks me over to the bed, and tells me to sit down.

“I need to know what you felt when we were outside. What you think is gonna happen.” He takes a seat next to me on the bed, but far enough away that we aren’t touching. A part of me feels the sting of what that probably means. He’s probably mad that I didn’t believe him on trying this for real.

Looking over at him, I take a deep breath, and tell him what I felt outside.

“As soon as I got off your bike, I felt almost like someone was watching us. When I scanned the parking lot, I didn’t see anyone or anything out of the ordinary. Everything looked the same, as it has since you first brought me here.”

His hand grips mine, and I feel a little better. “I have a feeling that he’s not gonna just let me get away from him. He’s going to kill me, like he did Shawn.”

My heart starts to pound, and I can feel my breathing start to change. I’m gonna have another panic attack. Please breathe, I beg myself. I can’t freak out in front of him again. Breathe. I chant in my head, until I can feel the tightness in my chest start to slowly disappear.

When it finally starts to subside, I can feel Jase’s eyes on me. Taking a peek over at him, I see a worried look on his face.

“You okay?” his voice is quiet almost like he thinks he’s going to cause me to freak me out again.

I nod my head, and release the grip I have on his hand. He flexes it a few times before he scoots closer to me.

“I’m sorry,” I mumble, looking at the floor. I hate when people see me have a panic attack. They always look at me with pity, but Jase doesn’t. He looks genuinely concerned about me. Maybe he wasn’t lying about wanting to try things between us.

I remind myself that he’s a player, and players don’t settle down. They are always looking for their next piece of ass.

Chapter Fourteen

Watching her have a panic attack over that fucking bastard makes me want to put a bullet though his head even more than before. I hate the affect he is having over her. Every fucking ounce of me is pissed, and I want to take away all her fears. She shouldn’t be afraid of this bastard.

Pulling her into my arms, I comfort her the best I can. I can tell she doesn’t like when they happen in front of people because she gets a shy and awkward.

“I got you. It’s okay.” She nods her head against my chest, and I run my hand down her back.

She looks up at me and tells me that I can go meet with my father now. She swears she’ll be okay, but I’m not sure about that.

A knock at my door startles her, and I know she isn’t okay.

When I open the door, I see a very bubbly Henley, standing in the doorway. “Hey Jase! Cason told me to come and hang out with your ole’ lady while you’re in church with them.”

“Hey Henley. Yeah come in.” I open the door, and let her pass me. I look over at the bed, and Wynter has a small smile on her lips. Hopefully she doesn’t mind the intrusion.

Henley walks right over to her, and introduces herself. “Hi sweetheart, I’m Henley! I’m Cason’s ole’ lady,” her nose wrinkles at that title, and I just laugh.

“You act like it’s a bad thing Hen.” I walk over to Wynter, and give her a quick kiss before walking out of the room.

Making my way into church, I see my old man and Prez talking to each other quietly.

“Hey,” I say walking over to my chair. They both nod their heads, and finish their conversation.

When they are finally done talking, they both look over at me and I know I’m about to get a bunch of shit from them.

“What happened at Brant’s place last night?” my dad asks staring at me. I know he’s pissed because it happened while Anslie and the twins were there. I swear our fucking parents love that girl more than their own sons.

“Saxton showed up and told us that we need to turn Wynter over to him or he would take us all out.”

I can see the vein in Prez’s neck pop out, and I know he’s gonna fly off the handle at any minute.

“He fucking comes to my daughter’s home, where my grandkids fucking sleep. That’s not fucking okay at all.” His hands come down hard on the table, and I just sit there and wait for them to chill a bit.

“Why are you protecting her?” Prez growls.

I know I’m about to fucking take some shit over this, and as unsure I am about Wynter and me, I know it’s the right thing to do.

“I fucking care about her, and I’m not letting anything happen to her. You guys can be fucking pissed all you want, but I’m not changing my mind. She’s mine!” I grate out.

If one ole’ lady is more important that the rest, then there is something wrong with our fucking system.

Prez gets ready to say something, but I interrupt him.

“Anslie isn’t the only fucking ole’ lady in this club. They all fucking matter, even though you’re only worried about your own damn daughter.”

Prez slams his hands down on the table and stands up. “You have no fucking clue what it’s like to protect every fucking member and their families Jase. Yeah I fucking know they are all important. But, your just playing fucking grab ass with this girl and she’s bringing a lot of shit on our doorstep. What is your real fucking plan? You gonna keep this girl around once we clean up her damn mess, or are you just gonna toss her ass out like the rest of the whores you go through?”

Pushing my chair back, I see red. Fuck them both; they have no fucking clue. “She isn’t a fucking whore. She’s too fucking good for me and I know that. I will do everything in my damn power to make sure she’s protected at all costs, now, and even after all this shit it done with. Fuck you both if you can’t fucking get that through your damn heads.”

“Jase,” my old man warns.

Shaking my head, I pull my chair back into place and take a seat. “You don’t know shit about how I feel about her,” I mumble.

“You barely fucking know her kid,” my dad reminds me.

Looking at both of them I ask, “How long did you know Henley before you knew? Or what about Mom? Don’t give me some bullshit story about you knowing them longer than me, before you knew they were fucking special.”

Neither of them says anything so I know I fucking proved my point. “Fine,” Prez grates out.

“Keep doing recon on him and his associates, and we will meet in a week to go over the plan of attack.”

I nod my head, and go to stand up. Before I can go, my old man speaks, “If she’s everything you think she is, treat her right, and don’t fuck it up.” I shake my head at my old man. I’m pretty sure I already have, but I don’t tell them that.

Getting up for my chair, I make my way out of church, and head towards my room. I’m not sure what type of mood Wynter will be in, but I need a fucking nap. Last night I only got like an hour of sleep, and I could really use some before I snap at everyone else.

Walking into the room, I see Henley sitting next to her, and they are whispering about something. Wyn nods her head at whatever Henley is saying, and I try not to disrupt them.

“Jase,” Wynter says when she looks up and sees me.

Henley gets up from the bed, and gives me a bright smile before saying goodbye and walking out of the room.

“Hey babe,” I say, toeing off my boots, and practically throwing myself on the bed. I lay there for a few moments before I decide on pulling my shirt off. I don’t know how people fucking sleep with clothes on. They fucking suck ass.

Lifting my hips, I pull my jeans off too, and toss them on the ground by the bed. I hear Wyn’s breathing deepen, and I know she’s watching me undress. Lying back down, I pull the blanket over me, and lift my arm up so she will come lay with me. It takes her a few moments, but she finally does. Once she gets situated, I can feel how tense she is.

“I’m not gonna bite you know,” I mumble against her shoulder. Her body loosens up and she relaxes into me.

“I might like it,” she whispers seductively. My head shoots up, and I look over at her.

Is she serious?

The look in her eyes is right on the border of lust and uncertainty. Instead of taking advantage of her like I typically do with women, I just curl her into my body, and kiss her forehead.

She tries to pull away from me, but I don’t let her move. I know exactly what she is thinking, but it is so far from the truth that it’s ridiculous.

“Don’t think that because I’m not trying to get into your panties right now that it means that I don’t want you, cause fuck sugar I do. I just don’t want it to mean nothing when we finally do have sex.” She sucks in a breath, and I know she gets my meaning.

“You want it to mean more?” her voice is quiet, and she seems unsure about how she feels about that.

“Yeah, I told you earlier that I wanted to do this shit for real. I wasn’t lying. Yeah I know I’m gonna fuck up a whole hell of a lot, but I like you, and I want to give this shit a shot.”

Instead of answering me, she just buries her face into my chest. It’s a better answer than the last one she gave me when I asked.

Just when I think she’s fallen asleep, she whispers, “I want to give it a real shot too. I can’t keep living in the past of what I had with Shawn. He was a liar anyway, and didn’t deserve me after all.”

I tighten my grip on her, “Just remember you deserve the fucking world.” I kiss the top of her head, and close my eyes.
