Hell, could anything be more perfect?

Cum burst from him even as that thought stopped him cold. It wasn’t perfect. Perfect was the illusion. Wendy barely knew them, but as Sogarn swallowed down every drop of his cum and then licked his cock clean, Donovan couldn’t think of another place he would rather be.

Wendy would know them soon enough, because he had absolutely no intention of letting her go.

Finally, completely spent, Donovan lowered to his knees and gathered Sogarn and Wendy close to him. It was amazing how well they both fit in his embrace. It was even more amazing that they both snuggled close so trustingly.

It wasn’t until he heard Sogarn’s soft grunt of pain that he remembered his lover’s predicament. Donovan glanced down to find Wendy still stroked what looked to be a painfully hard erection.

“Finish him off, baby girl,” Donovan said as he shuffled away slightly. At first, Donovan thought Wendy would continue to stroke Sogarn to completion, so he was thrown for a loop when she urged Sogarn onto his back and then climbed over him. She sank onto his cock slowly, moaning as she took him into her body. Sogarn looked stunned.

“It’s been a long time,” Donovan said with a smile. It was pretty obvious to him that Wendy refused to be denied what she wanted, but the quiet words froze her in place. She went to lift off him, but Donovan moved quickly to hold her in place.

“But…” she said to Donovan as tears filled her eyes. She shook her head even as Sogarn started to lift his hips, driving his cock deeper into the warmth of her pussy. “You’re both gay.”

“No, baby girl,” Donovan said. “We’re bisexual. Just because you’re the only woman we’ve wanted in our bed for a long time, it doesn’t change that fact.”

“Really?” she asked breathlessly as Sogarn pulled her down to press a kiss to her lips.

“Really,” he answered sincerely. He held her hips tight, grinning as he lifted up at the same time he dragged her down onto his cock. Wendy was already shaking with her growing arousal, shivering all over as thinking ceased and instinct took over. Sogarn grunted, moving more urgently as Wendy started to shake in orgasm.

Sogarn held her still, grinding deeper into her, dragging out her orgasm as he held back his own need. Donovan wasn’t sure where the man got his self-control. His own cock was twitching back to life, and he was only watching them together. Considering that he’d come only moments ago, it was quite surprising.

As Wendy’s peak slowly subsided, Sogarn took his own pleasure, pounding up into her pussy twice more before groaning out his release.

Chapter Ten

Wendy didn’t argue when Donovan took over once more, lifting her off Sogarn’s exhausted frame and cleaning her up. She could feel herself blush in embarrassment when he wiped them both down, but the feeling was quickly overwhelmed when he arranged the three of them in the bed, her back to Sogarn’s front and Donovan behind him, holding them both close.

She was fairly certain she drifted off to sleep for only a moment or two, but when she woke, she could see the familiar light of dawn filtering through the gap in the curtains. Donovan must have realized she was awake, because he leaned over Sogarn, pressed a kiss to her cheek, and rolled off the bed.

“Nothing happened?” she asked as she remembered the reason they’d all been in the one bed.

“Not last night,” Donovan said as he pulled on his clothes. “It might take a few nights for them to realize we’re back in your home.”

He came around and sat on the bed in front of her. “You two look beautiful together,” he said, reaching out to touch her face, his gaze moving to the man who continued to sleep behind her. “It’s like you belong there.”

She wasn’t certain how to interpret that. Technically it was her bedroom and her bed, so she did belong, but he seemed to be saying something more important than just the obvious explanation.

“When he loves, he does it with all his heart, no matter how much it costs him.” Donovan leaned over and pressed a kiss to Sogarn’s lips. The man tightened his hold on her, sighed softly, but didn’t seem to wake. Donovan watched him for a few more moments before pressing a kiss to Wendy’s forehead and then leaving the room.

Confused by Donovan’s cryptic words, Wendy lay in Sogarn’s embrace and tried not to think about how lonely her life would feel once they caught the person trying to kill Polly and her wolves moved on.

Donovan wanted nothing more than to run off his frustrations in furry form, but he had a job to do and an alpha to report to. He checked the makeshift aviary quickly, wincing as the noise assaulted his sensitive hearing, and then headed into the forest where he and Sogarn had made their home together.

He wasn’t really surprised to find the alpha sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee.

“You didn’t even try to hide the fact that you share a bedroom,” the man said without preamble.

Donovan held his tongue. The fact that they hadn’t had a visitor in over twelve years wouldn’t change the alpha’s opinion on their failure to hide their relationship from the rest of the pack. The alpha stared at him, apparently hoping to intimidate him into apologizing, but Donovan simply waited for the man’s next words. It took longer than he hoped, yet when the alpha finally did start talking, it wasn’t the subject Donovan had been expecting.

“Tell me about Wendy. Is she in love with Sogarn?”

“Technically she only just met Sogarn, but I believe love will grow between them.”

The alpha gave him a hard look. “Will she make a strong wolf?”

Donovan nodded, swallowing hard as he realized where this conversation was going. “I don’t know,” he answered truthfully, “but she’s intelligent, caring, and willing to do what needs to be done to protect those she loves. She took on two snake-shifters when she thought they might kill Sogarn.”

“I read the report,” the alpha said in a dismissive tone.

Donovan nodded and fell quiet. What he really wanted to do was shake the alpha until the bigoted asshole’s teeth rattled, but he loved and respected Sogarn enough to refrain. It didn’t help his frame of mind that he’d considered the same things himself as he’d held Sogarn and Wendy while they slept.

“I have another assignment for you,” the alpha said in a tone that suggested arguing would be fruitless. Donovan ground his back teeth together and waited to hear the details. It was very clear to him what the alpha was trying to do. What wasn’t clear was how he should react to the old dog’s manipulations. “The alpha of the Dry Creek pack has asked for our help to set up better security. You’re one of my most experienced wolves when it comes to electronic surveillance. I want you to lead the crew I selected.” He gave Donovan a look he couldn’t quite interpret. “It shouldn’t take more than six months. You move out in two hours.”

He wasn’t certain what to do, so he stayed calm and tried to shove aside his emotions as he considered the ramifications of the alpha’s move. Sogarn deserved to be happy. A mate and pups would make acceptance by the pack far more likely.

“Can I say good-bye?” Donovan asked in a quiet, respectful tone.

“Of course,” the alpha said with a sympathetic smile.

Donovan turned to leave, already wondering what he would say to the man he loved and the woman he’d grown to care for deeply, but the alpha’s next words stopped him in his tracks.

“I know you care for Sogarn, but if you truly love my son, you’ll do what’s best for him.”

Donovan looked over his shoulder, nodded once in acknowledgment, and left before he could give away how deeply doing what the alpha thought was right affected him.

Sogarn startled awake, Donovan’s name on his lips and Wendy lying in his arms.

“I think he went to check on Polly,” she said sleepily, snuggling more comfortably into his embrace.

“Where are you?”
Sogarn asked telepathically. He could feel his lover’s distress, but he also got the sense that he was trying to hide it from him.

“I’m on my way back to you and Wendy,”
Donovan replied even as Sogarn heard the back screen door slide open.

“What aren’t you telling me?”
Sogarn asked as sadness flooded his system. He didn’t understand where the emotion was coming from, but he knew it had something to do with Donovan. Had making love with Wendy made his man feel unloved? Surely Donovan knew how he felt. The telepathic link they shared made it difficult to hide anything from each other. But it seemed that was exactly what Donovan was trying to do.
“Donovan, please talk to me. Tell me what’s wrong.”

“Nothing’s wrong,” he said as he stepped into the bedroom. “In fact, the alpha just put me in charge of a new assignment.”

“So where are we going?” Sogarn asked, pulling Wendy closer. Wherever they got sent, he had every intention of asking Wendy to come with them.

“Not we. Me,” Donovan said as he sat on the edge of the bed in front of Wendy.

“You?” Sogarn asked as confusion swirled through him. “Surely the alpha knows we’re a team.”

“The alpha,” Donovan said in a quiet, inflectionless, monotone voice, “wants you to stay and supervise the completion of this assignment.” He reached a hand out to touch Sogarn’s face but hesitated and then dropped it back to his side. “I should only be gone six months or so.”

“Six months?” Wendy asked in surprise. “Surely he knows how close you two are.”

“He knows,” Sogarn said, grinding his back teeth as he realized what his father planned to do. “He’s trying to separate us in the hopes that I’ll claim you.”

“Me?” Wendy asked in a small voice. “But you barely know me. You and Donovan have been together for decades.” She rolled in Sogarn’s embrace. “I’m not even a wolf.”

“That can change,” Donovan said as he reached out to touch her cheek. “Sogarn would be welcomed back into the pack if he had a mate—a wife—and pups in his future.”

“But what about you?” Wendy asked Donovan worriedly. Sogarn took comfort in the fact that she didn’t immediately dismiss the idea of a future with him, but it was Donovan’s determination to do the “right thing” according to the alpha that worried him. Sogarn could feel the despair already permeating Donovan’s heart.

“I’ll be fine, sweetheart,” Donovan lied. Perhaps he was trying to put on a brave face for Wendy, but Sogarn knew what the words were costing him. From that moment nearly sixty years ago when they’d first come together, Sogarn had never doubted that Donovan loved him with everything that he was. And he wasn’t going to give that up without one hell of a fight.

“I should get going,” Donovan said as he tried to move away.

“No,” Sogarn said, moving off the bed and standing between Donovan and the doorway. “You’re staying right here while I sort out my father.”

“Your father?” Wendy asked, looking from one to the other. “The alpha is your father?”

Sogarn nodded.

“It’s okay,” Donovan said quietly. “Sogarn, I want you to be happy. Pack life is important to you.”

“Not as important as you are,” Sogarn said, moving to take his lover in his arms. Donovan stood stoically for a moment, obviously fighting his instincts to hold his lover close, but when his arms did wrap around him, they shook with barely leashed emotion. “I love you, Donovan, and I’m not going to let a bigoted, narrow-minded asshole dictate our future.”

“But life would be much easier without me.”

Sogarn laughed humorlessly. “Life wouldn’t be life without you. Either my father accepts me for who I am—and everything that I am—or he lives without me.”

It took a moment to realize that Wendy had slid off the bed and was quietly trying to leave the room. Moving faster than even he realized he could, Sogarn snagged her around the waist and dragged her into the middle of his and Donovan’s embrace.

“But I should g–go,” Wendy said shakily.

“No.” Sogarn captured her chin in his fingers, gently lifting her face so she looked him directly in the eyes. “You belong here with us. With both of us.” She shook her head, but tears filmed her eyes. “Wendy,” he said, gently touching her face as her emotions washed over him. He had no idea how it was possible, but the link he had with Donovan was already growing between him and Wendy. “I know I’m rushing you, but I feel what’s in your heart. I know you love us both. Stay. Let us love you and build a life together. Marry us both. Have our babies.”

Wendy nodded shyly, overwhelmed by everything he’d just told her but brave enough to reach for what she wanted.

“Make love to Donovan, sweetheart. He needs to feel you wrapped around him.”

“But what about the alpha?” Donovan asked. It was clear that his lover wanted only what was best for him. The alpha didn’t have a clue what that was. Fortunately, Sogarn did.

“The alpha isn’t important. Not here. Not now. What’s important is that you and Wendy need each other.” He pulled them both closer to him, pressed a kiss to Wendy’s lips, and then pulled Donovan’s head toward him. “And I really need to watch you together.”

Wendy blushed, perhaps finally realizing that she was still naked.

“Is that okay with you, sweetheart?” Donovan asked Wendy as he leaned back to see her face. She nodded, lifting her face up so that Donovan could kiss her. Sogarn didn’t wait for them to break apart before he started to strip away Donovan’s clothes. He had his lover naked in no time, and then he guided them both toward the bed as their kiss grew more passionate.
