The scent of coffee brewing and bacon frying lured her from the bed. She searched in Luke’s chest of drawers until she found one of his T-shirts to wear. After a trip to the bathroom, she headed for the kitchen.

She found him at the stove, turning bacon with a fork. Not sure how he’d greet her, she stood in the doorway and watched him. Everything inside her melted at the sight of that broad, tan back and strong legs. He wore another pair of denim cutoffs that molded to his perfect butt. Something about seeing a nice male ass in tight denim fogged her brain. She knew exactly how that ass felt in her hands, as well as the rest of his body. His hands, his mouth, his cock…

Erin sighed. He’d done amazing things to her body last night. And her heart.

As if he sensed her presence, he turned his head and glanced at her over his shoulder. His gaze dipped all the way to her toes and back to her face. “Good morning,” he said softly.

He didn’t smile. The churning in her stomach intensified. “Good morning.”

“Coffee’s ready. Breakfast will be done in a bit.”

She didn’t know how she’d eat with her stomach one big knot, but she forced herself to smile. “Great.”

Two mugs and a bottle of liquid creamer already sat on the cabinet next to the coffeemaker. Erin felt Luke watching her as she poured coffee into one of the mugs and added a generous amount of creamer. When she looked his way, he quickly turned his attention back to the bacon.

He must hate her if he couldn’t even look in her eyes.

Tension flowed between them, so thick she doubted even a machete could cut it. Her throat tightened, tears filled her eyes. She’d been so absorbed with her need to have someone in her life, she hadn’t considered how sex between them would affect Luke.

Her vision blurry with tears, she groped for the counter so she could set down her mug before she dropped it. “I think…” Her voice came out sounding like she hadn’t used it in a week. She cleared her throat. “I think I’d better go.”

“Why?”

“Be-because you obviously don’t want me here.”

“What makes you say that?”

“You won’t even look at me.”

She swiped at the tears before they could fall. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Luke remove the bacon from the skillet and turn off the burner. He walked over to her, placed one finger under her chin, and lifted her face to his. It thrust a knife into her heart to see the sadness in his eyes. “I need to know something, Erin.”

“Anything.”

“What happened between us last night?”

She didn’t understand his question. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“I want you to tell me what happened between us in the pool house and the bedroom.”

She wished she knew what he wanted her to say. “We had sex.”

He stared into her eyes for several long seconds before he spoke again. “Yeah, I thought that’s what you’d say.”

He released her and returned to the stove. “Scrambled eggs okay?”

Erin felt as if she’d wandered into one of those weird funhouse places, where all the mirrors distorted the images so nothing made sense. “Luke, are you angry at me?”

He took a clean skillet out of the cabinet. She saw his chest expand with a deep breath. “No, I’m not angry. I’m disappointed.”

The knife went a little deeper into her heart. Luke thought she was lousy in bed too. He came three times with her! She guessed that didn’t matter since a guy always came. An orgasm must not automatically mean satisfaction.

Once again, she’d failed as a lover.

“I’m sorry.” Her voice broke when tears filled her eyes again. “I tried so h-hard to p-please you.”

“Shit,” he muttered. He returned to her, standing close enough that she could smell herself on his skin. “I’m not disappointed in you as a lover, Erin. You were incredible. The best I’ve ever had. I don’t understand why the idiot lovers you’ve had never called you back. I guess because they’re idiots.”

“Then what—“

“I’m disappointed in what you said happened between us. You said we had sex.”

“We
did
have sex.”

“No, Erin. We
made love
. It was hot and wild and intense, but still making love.”

He sounded like Zoe. “What does it matter what I call it?”

“It matters because it was special to me.” He wrapped his fingers around her upper arms. “I went along with your idea because I wanted to help you if I could. And I’m a typical man who’s led by his dick. I doubt if any man alive would be able to resist you in that green bikini. You have a really hot body, Erin.” He slid his hands down her arms to clasp hers. “But it’s more than just your incredible looks. I love how I can talk to you about anything. It’s been that way since the moment we met. We have a very special friendship and it would kill me to lose it. But after last night…” He lifted her hands, kissed the knuckles of both of them. “I think we could have something even more special, something that goes beyond just friendship.”

The tension in her chest completely disappeared, to be replaced with a glowing warmth. She’d wasted so much time looking for that special someone when he was already in her life. She squeezed his hands. “I think we could have something really special too.”

Luke lowered his head as Erin raised hers. Their lips met in a soft kiss, one signaling a new beginning. She slid her arms around his neck, her lips parted beneath his.

In one moment, the kiss turned passionate.

Luke ran his hands beneath her T-shirt to discover nothing but smooth skin. He slid his hands up and down her back and over her buttocks while they kissed. He moved one hand up to cradle a soft breast, thumbed her nipple into hardness.

She tilted back her head when he began to rain kisses down her neck. “Luke.”

Mmmmm
.”

“Take me to bed. I want to make love with you.”

Luke swore his heart swelled in his chest at her choice of words. The tenderness in her eyes touched him all the way to his soul. He kissed her again before scooping her up in his arms.

Erin laughed. “My caveman.”

“Wait until I get you back in bed. I’ll show you a caveman.”

“Do cavemen make love or have sex?”

He dropped her on the bed. “This caveman is flexible.”

She giggled when she bounced once. “I like flexible.”

The hem of her T-shirt hit her at mid-thigh. Luke pushed it up to her neck to expose her body. “Spread your legs for me.”

She did as he ordered. The feminine lips were already coated with her juices. Luke glided his thumbs over the sleek flesh, smearing her cream. “You have the prettiest pussy. I think it needs a lot of attention. What do you think?”

“I think you need to take off your shorts.”

Luke shook his head. “Not until I do this.” Holding her labia open, he swiped his tongue from her anus to her clit.

Erin moaned and arched her back. “Again.”

Happy to obey her, he stretched out on his stomach between her legs. Luke slipped his hands beneath her ass and lifted her pussy to his mouth. Her musky scent filled his nostrils. Nothing smelled better than an aroused woman. Or tasted better. He licked her entire length again, then paid special attention to her clit. It swelled and became firmer beneath his tongue.

“God, you taste good.”

He drove his tongue into her channel, her ass. He would love to fuck that sweet little hole. In their many conversations about sex, anal sex had never been mentioned. Erin was so passionate, he doubted if there was much about sex she didn’t like.

It would be so much fun to find out her likes and dislikes.

He watched Erin fondle her breasts, pluck her nipples. He wanted to learn what felt good to her so he could copy it. He already knew how much she enjoyed him playing with her clit while pumping his fingers in and out of her channel. Continuing to lick her clit, he pushed two fingers inside to massage her G-spot.

She moaned low and long as her body jerked. Luke rose from the bed long enough to remove his shorts, then lay on top of her. Linking their fingers, he held her hands next to her head. He nestled his cock in her slick folds.

“I know you’re on birth control and I swear I’m clean. I don’t want anything between us, Erin, not even a condom.”

Her beautiful green eyes filled with tenderness. “I promise I’m clean too.”

Luke kissed her as he slid his cock into her pussy, and struggled not to moan. It had been years since he’d made love with a woman bareback. Without a condom to dull the sensation, he felt every part of her tight, slick channel when it clamped his shaft. He hadn’t experienced such profound pleasure in a long time.

Determined not to come too quickly, he kept his thrusts as easy and unhurried as his kisses. That apparently didn’t work for Erin. She tightened her grip on his hands, wrapped her legs around his waist. “Faster, Luke.”

“I can’t, babe. I didn’t think about how good it would feel inside you without a condom. I don’t want to come too soon.”

“Are we going to have to build up your…stamina?”

He stopped moving, chuckled at the humor twinkling in her eyes. “Yeah. I guess it’ll take a lot of practice.”

“Well, practice
does
make perfect.”

“That it does.” With their bodies still joined, he shifted to his knees, pulled her up to straddle his lap. He tugged off her T-shirt and tossed it to the floor. “So how about if you’re in control?”

Heat flared in her eyes. She tunneled her fingers into his hair, held his head while she kissed him again and again. Luke clasped her ass and helped her to move over him. She developed a rhythm with him, one that sped up as her breathing quickened. Suspecting her orgasm grew near, Luke fastened his mouth over the pounding pulse in her throat and sucked hard. She shattered in his arms.

Luke had but a moment to enjoy feeling her pussy squeeze his cock when his own orgasm took over his body. Holding tightly to her ass, he pushed his shaft as far inside her as he could and let the pleasure flood through him.

Erin’s bones not only melted, they completely dissolved. She didn’t have one bit of strength left in her body. If Luke hadn’t held her, she would’ve landed on the bed in a useless heap.

“God,” he muttered against her neck.

“Amen to that.”

Luke lifted his head, gave her a crooked smile. “I know this is a cliché, but was it as good for you as it was for me?”

“Ten times better.”

His smile turned into a cocky grin. “Damn, I’m good.”

Laughing, she cradled his face and gave him a smacking kiss. “You are better than good, Mr. Duvall. You are
amazing
.”

“I could throw out some adjectives about you too, like incredible, hot, beautiful, sexy, stun—“

She cut off his compliment by kissing him again. “You’re sweet.”

“Just honest.”

Erin looked into his gorgeous blue eyes and saw herself reflected in his pupils. Seeing herself made her feel as if she’d become a part of him. “I wanted a connection with a man during sex. You certainly gave me that. And so much more.”

He kissed her with such warmth, tears sprang to her eyes. “We already love each other as friends, Erin. We’re ahead of most couples when they start out.”

“True.” She ran her hands through his thick mane of hair. “Thank you for trusting enough in our friendship to help me in a rather…unconventional way.”

“It was my pleasure.” He flashed his cocky grin again. “After all, what are friends for?”
