Melynda gripped the sides of
the couch, her need so tightly coiled low in her belly it was a
physical ache. She raised her head to stare into Dax's silver eyes.
He held her gaze as he lowered his mouth to her pussy. This time,
his tongue and lips took her pussy fiercely, demanding she yield and
surrender her pleasure completely to him. Melynda spread her legs
wider for him as he growled, “Scream, Melynda. I want to hear
you scream my name.”

He pushed his fingers deep
into her and thrust hard as his tongue swirled around her engorged
clit. Melynda let out a sob as a sudden and violent orgasm seized
her. She threw her head back and screamed, as she came so hard under
Dax's mouth. Her whole body felt like it was being consumed by fire.
She was burning, drowning, falling. She blinked rapidly, trying to
clear her vision, but she could only see flames and lightning.

What?

Well, yes, her orgasm was
scorching and electrifying, but...
fire and lightning
? Her
senses must be playing tricks on her.

Melynda shuddered violently,
feeling Dax's fingers still sliding languidly in and out of her.
Gradually, her body quietened down and Dax withdrew completely from
her.

As her vision and senses
returned, she tried to close her legs, suddenly feeling very exposed.

Don't.”

She looked up, taken aback at
his command. She tried to squeeze her legs together, but he pressed
his palms against the insides of her thighs so that she remained
spread open for him.

I want to look at you.
I want to see you spread wide for me, your pussy swollen and wet with
your come. I want to see how you look just after you've come for me.
I want to see what I have touched and tasted, but can never have.”

Melynda stopped resisting and
just let him devour her with his hungry, tortured eyes. She could
feel herself become wet again under his gaze, and she turned her head
to the side, unsure of what she was feeling and what she wanted.

He hadn't really taken her.
He hadn't even taken off his clothes, for crying out loud. He was
still in control, while she was sprawled naked on his couch, her legs
spread for him and her body limp and flushed with pleasure. With
every shallow breath, she could feel her need still pulsing deep
within her. She felt strangely, starkly empty. And angry.

She had been powerless to
resist him. Dax Ferro took what he wanted, and made no apologies for
it. She'd heard the other secretaries gossiping about his conquests.
They had seen him checking into hotels with a different woman each
weekend, and Monday mornings were always filled with furious whispers
and giggles.

She admitted she had a crush
on him. And he had used it, used her. She was just another one of
his countless conquests. Only...she wasn't. He hadn't fucked her.
She had felt his raging erection when he pressed her against him, but
she hadn't even glimpsed his infamous, voracious cock.

It...wasn't fair.

His words echoed in her mind.

I want to see what I have
touched and tasted, but can never have.

Dax...can never have her?

Why couldn't he have her? Why
wouldn't he want to make love to her? Was she not good enough for
him?

Did he know what kind of witch
she was?

Pressing her hand to her mouth
to stop a sob from escaping, Melynda tumbled off the couch. Blindly,
she grabbed her clothes off the floor and started to dress. She
pulled on her skirt and buttoned her blouse with shaking fingers,
keeping her back to him.

He had released her the moment
she pushed off the couch, and he stood behind her silently, not
uttering a single word.

Hurriedly and haphazardly
dressed, she headed straight for the door without looking at him.

She heard him call her name
but she refused to look back. Jerk!

Fool!

He was the jerk and she was
the fool.

Grabbing her bag, she marched
to the lift lobby and jabbed furiously at the button. Only after she
had entered the empty lift and the lift door had closed did she allow
herself to collapse. Her knees buckled and she slumped against the
side of the lift.

Why did I let him?”
she whispered. “Why did I let him make me feel so...?”

She swiped at her eyes. “So
cheap!” she spat at her reflection in the shiny lift door.

Straightening her clothes, she
ran her hands through her hair and glared at herself. “Well,
he had his fun. So now it's my turn!”

Dragging her phone out of her
bag, she called her date and apologized profusely for being late.

Yeah, there was some
last minute work to be done. But I'm on my way now. Are you still
at the restaurant?”

She tried to smile as she
spoke into the phone, so that her date could hear her sincerity and
enthusiasm. Even if they were faked.

Faked sincerity. An oxymoron,
if ever there was one.

Melynda choked back a bitter
laugh and said brightly, “Great! I'll be there in twenty
minutes. See you, Steven!”

CHAPTER
THREE

She left. She fucking left.
And he let her.

What the hell was wrong with
him?

Dax closed his eyes, breathing
in her scent that lingered on the couch, in his office, on his
clothes. Her scent was everywhere. He was still hard, needing and
wanting her more than ever.

But she was gone. He saw the
glimmer of tears in her eyes as she stumbled blindly past him and
fumbled at the door. The curses she muttered had been directed at
him. Dax speared his fingers through his hair. He shouldn't have
let her go. He should have...
what
? What should he have done?

Claimed her? Marked her?

All he knew was that he should
not have let her go like that. Hurt and humiliated. He wasn't
playing with her. He would never toy with her. His lips and
fingertips burned with the memory of her. She was exquisite, so damn
beautiful, and he had almost lost his mind and his control when he'd
first penetrated her with his finger. She was so hot and tight. And
so ready for him.

He smashed his fist into the
wall. Melynda. Melynda. Melynda!

It was impossible to get her
out of his mind.

With a roar, he strode out of
the office. As he rushed to the lift lobby, he saw Ian Robertson
poke his head out of his office. Seeing it was only Dax, Ian simply
shrugged and ambled back to his desk which was overflowing with files
and papers.

Dax knew exactly which lift
Melynda had taken. Her scent was so strong, and he could tell that
she had leaned her head against the side wall. He could smell her
shampoo. He would find her. He didn't know what he would say to
her. All he knew was that he had to see her. Just one look. Just
to make sure that she was all right.

She's not all right. She's
not like all the other women you fucked. She means something. And
you—what you did, meant something to her.

Dax growled. He should never
have touched her. Now that he'd had a taste of her, he could never
take any other female. He was ruined. He was damaged a long time
ago, but now, he was utterly ruined.

As soon as the lift door
opened, he followed her scent out and sprinted out of the building.
He stopped and took a deep, painful breath.

She had stood right here, at
this very spot, by the side of the curb, shivering and willing her
tears not to fall. He could still smell her fear, her pain, her
anger.

He turned his head sharply,
following her scent down the street. Her scent was fainter, but
still distinct. He was certain she had gone this way, probably in a
cab.

He would follow her.

Dax started to run. His
jacket flapped behind him as his long legs pounded down street after
street. He was a powerful, skilful runner, his physique lean and
athletic like most shifters. He ran for mile and miles, not slowing
down, not hesitating as he followed her scent.

Everything was sharper,
clearer even though the sky was fully dark. The light from the
street lamps glinted off his silver eyes, as he zeroed in on Melynda.
He could smell her so clearly now. She was near.

Then he saw her.

She was sitting in a
restaurant, smiling, laughing with a golden-haired man. Her mouth
was smiling, but her eyes were not. They looked lost, sad and
vacant.

Why did she do this to
herself? Dating men she had no interest in?

Dax closed his eyes. Who was
he to judge? He did the same thing to himself, sleeping with women
he had no interest in.

Dax put his hand against the
tree, digging his claws into the bark to stop himself from going any
nearer. He could see her very clearly from where he was, across the
street from that cozy Italian restaurant. He saw the blond man lean
forward and reach out across the table to take her hand. Dax gouged
out a huge hunk of tree but he managed to remain where he was.

Melynda didn't try to pull
away from the man's grasp. She allowed him to hold her hand, and
even managed to nod and laugh at whatever lame little joke her date
had just made.

She wasn't in danger. She
wasn't being harassed or threatened. He should just leave, leave her
alone and let her get on with her life.

But he couldn't.

He couldn't tear his eyes away
from her. He just couldn't walk away. Not from Melynda. He had to
go to her.

Dax crossed the street and
stood at the window, staring into the restaurant. Melynda's eyes
flicked suddenly over her date's shoulder to the window.

He saw her gasp, her eyes
rounding when she saw him.

She swallowed and jerked her
hand out of her date's grasp. Her trembling fingers began to fiddle
at a button on her blouse. Dax wished she wouldn't do that. It just
drew attention to her lush, sweet bosom.

Dax's eyes raked down her
flushed face to her chest. He saw her chest rising and falling with
her rapid breathing, and every inch of him throbbed at the memory of
her beautiful naked breasts. Her nipples had pebbled at his touch,
growing hard and erect in his mouth. She had tasted so damn good.

Was her date staring at her
chest as well?

Dax let out a menacing growl.
He sensed that her date was a shifter. Dax was an alpha wolf, a
Silver Wolf, and he could easily take down any shifter, especially a
shifter who dared desire Melynda.

Just as Dax made a move
towards the restaurant entrance, he saw Melynda push back from the
table. Her date got up as well, and offered her his arm. They were
leaving.

The door opened with a
cheerful chime and Melynda stepped out with a stocky young man with
unruly golden hair. Dax caught his scent. The man was a lion
shifter, and he was young, close to Melynda's age. Dax growled.
That feline would be wise to step away from Melynda. Just get his
paws away from Melynda and run along.

Dax let out a low growl. He
would have the young lion cub for breakfast.

He saw Melynda gasp, then
narrow her eyes at him.

What are you doing,
Melynda?” he said quietly as he approached her.

I...”

The young man stepped between
them. “Who are you? Are you stalking her? I saw you at the
window, peeping in and leering at her. Go away, before I call the
cops.”

Dax raised a brow. The
youngster could talk and act tough.

Leave us,” Dax
told him, keeping his eyes on Melynda. “I don't want to hurt
you, feline.”

The young man bristled. “And
I won't hurt you if you leave now, werewolf.”

Dax almost smiled.

Youth
was
wasted on the
young.

Melynda,” Dax
growled her name.

She shook her head slowly.
“You should leave, Dax. Just...go.”

The young man's eyes darted
between Dax and Melynda. “Wait. You two know each other.
What's going on here? Who is he, Melynda? Do you want to go with
him?”

No. No, I don't.”

Okay. You heard her.
The lady said no. And no means no.” The foolish young man
stabbed a finger into Dax's chest, trying to shove him back.

Dax didn't move an inch. His
expression was stony and his eyes never left Melynda. The young man
took Dax's lack of reaction as a sign of weakness and tried to sucker
punch him. In a flash, Dax caught the man's fist in his palm and his
eyes blazed silver.

The man whimpered in pain but
Dax refused to let go. His grip tightened on the man's fist,
crushing it slowly.

The young man roared in pain
and shifted into his lion form. Dax was forced to release the
massive paw as the lion pounced and tried to knock him to the ground.
Dax moved out of the way at the last instant and watched the lion
roll on the ground and twist round to face him. Dax let his claws
slide out silently, his stance relaxed.
