Chapter Nine

F
inding that I actually had to go, I went into a
stall and took care of business. Going up to a sink and washing my hands, I
stopped to take a hard look in the mirror. Was this worth signing up for?
Though Matt was very polite towards me, the other two were so frosty I could
see their breath in the air.

I then thought to myself, was this going to happen to Axel
and my family? I would hate for him to have to feel this way just because he
wasn’t black. I shook my head in frustration as I felt the tears. Curse my
sensitive feelings! Why couldn’t I be more like Josie?

Things like these never bothered her. I began to rack my
brain to gain composure, but didn’t need to when another woman walked in
through the door. I took a deep breath and looked straight into the mirror. I
needed to make sure that my eyes didn’t look red at all. I needed to look fine.

I tried to smile, but it fell flat. Blowing out air through
my mouth and slumping my posture, I felt so childish and incompetent as I
looked in the mirror. Straightening up as the lady came out of the stall, I
said hello in Italian before looking back towards the sink.

“Oh, I don’t speak Italian if that’s what you’re thinking,”
she said in a thick country accent.

“Oh! Sorry!”

“No need to apologize honey, you doing ok?” she asked me as
she cocked her head to the right.

“I’m getting there,” I said in all honesty.

“Honey, you are too beautiful to look so sad. Put on some
lipstick, and keep you head up. It always works for me,” she said before
puckering at the mirror and turning around.

I smiled as I remembered those words all too well. That’s
what my boss had told me the last day I saw her. Those words really gave me the
strength that I needed to get myself together. I didn’t have any lipstick, and
I could still hold my head high. Squaring my shoulders before returning a
polite smile as a different woman came through the door, I walked out of the
bathroom with dignity.

Something was different, though. The energy was off. I
couldn’t explain it but there was something amiss. You know that feeling you
get when the mood suddenly changes? It was almost as if I could feel it in the
air. Static electricity crackled in the air and I could tell that something was
amiss as soon as I saw Axel.

He was standing in front of Dillon and Jeremy; their eyes
were dark, but they looked intimidated by Axel’s stance. As I got closer, I
could hear Axel’s voice more clearly, as did some of the guest sitting closer
by. Matt sat in his chair, he seemed uneasy, like he wasn’t sure whether or not
he should jump up and hold Axel back or not. I made my way over at a faster
pace, just in case I was need to tame the beast.

“Dude, she’s black! Your relationship is not ever, and could
never be taken seriously!” Jeremy tried to reason with such harsh words.

“Listen man, we’re not trying to piss you off, but you’re
making a big mistake, I mean, what will your associates think?”

“Excuse me? Who the hell cares what my associates thinks?
What I’m doing is not illegal or shameful in any way,” Axel was ticked off.
Though he kept composure well, I could tell that he wanted to rip their throats
out.

“What happened to Jennifer?” Dillon questioned.

“She was a gold digging tramp who cheated on me.”

“Both of you, shut the hell up,” I’d never heard Axel’s
voice sound so authoritative and angry like thunder in the distance, “This is
not your decision, it is mine! If you have a problem with it, you can keep it
to myself or so help me God-“

“Axel, don’t. You can’t change how they feel,” I said
stepping in.

Matt who had stayed silent the entire time finally stood to
say something. “Listen, what was said was not in any way necessary, we all know
this. But you three are good friends.”

“Not anymore,” Axel said with finality before he turned
around, grabbed my hand, and walked out of the clubhouse. I was incredibly
shocked, so much so that I didn’t even say anything to Axel as he held the door
open for me, before he got in on the other side.

“Home please, Theodore.”

“Axel?”

“Just give me a moment, Jaida.”

“Ok, but please don’t get too mad. I really appreciate you
standing up for me.”

“What else would you have expected?” he asked turning to
glare at me.

“Not that. I just think that maybe you went too far.”

“Excuse me?” he asked incredulously.

“Axel, I don’t think you should have done that.”

“No! Don’t stand up for them, Jaida. They were wrong. Period,”
he said looking at me, his eyes flashing in his rage.

“Yes they were, but they can’t help how they feel. Please
don’t throw your friendship away because of me.”

“How low is your self-esteem that you think that it is ok
for someone to talk about you as if you are trash with the excuse of ‘that’s
just how they feel’. Don’t you know your worth?”

“Excuse the hell out of me! Don’t you ever put my self-worth
into question! I know how valuable I am. The fact that I am telling you to
forgive your friends, was not me standing up for ignorance, but for your
history together. For your memories, for everything that you’ve been through
with and for them.

“Don’t make huge decisions based in anger, Axel.
That’s
what
I’m saying,” I said, my mouth was pursed and my teeth were clenched together to
the point where it almost hurt. I turned so sharply away from him the belt from
the seat nearly tore into my neck.

“Jaida-“

“Don’t!” I growled cutting him off as we drove the rest of
the way in silence.

I felt sorry for Theodore; he didn’t deserve this level of
tension. I felt worse when I heard his uneasy voice call to the back of the car
that we had arrived. Jumping out of the car without a moment to spare, I
stormed off in the direction of the house.

Though I did have to wait for Axel to come and unlock the
door, I didn’t say anything to him or even look in his direction. I waited. My
arms were crossed and my lips were pursed. He came up behind me, stopped for
only a moment, and then unlocked the door with the keys to let me in.

As soon as I was in, I walked into the living room, past the
dining area, and through the kitchen before I made it to the back doors. I
needed some time to cool off, and this was the place to do it. At night when
the moon was full, the tides rolled in precariously close the cliff. I could
smell its violent dance as it slapped against the earth.

Chapter Ten

I
looked at the moon as it shone bright in the
freckled night sky. I sighed as my head began to throb. Closing my eyes
momentarily, I opened them in aggravation as all I saw was Axel. I didn’t want
to see him! I was angry at him! But why? Because he was rude to me!

Those words hit me in a way that I didn’t expect. They made
me feel low and down, but most importantly, they made me think. They made me
think about all of the crap that I’ve been through. From every little detail
down to the huge and important ones.

I thought about the way Ethan used to put me down by telling
me my hair was a mess and that I should have it straightened. I remember how he
used to tell me that I shouldn’t wear dresses that showed my knees because they
were too dark. I remembered how he used to tell me that my laugh sounded like a
wounded hyena.

I then thought about how secretive he was, and how easily he
was okay with us living in separate homes for so long. I remember the night
that I talked to him about it. He’d never brought up the issue before then, but
when I did, he didn’t seem upset. He seemed relieved.

Shaking my head before my hands shot up to my temples, I
thought about the way he used to make love to me. I noticed how it sued to be
so sweet in the beginning, and then how rushed and rough it was in the end. At
that moment, I felt worse than I have in years.

I stopped my downward spiral, simply by closing my eyes.
Because when I did, I saw Axel’s frosty blue eyes. I saw his smile and
remembered the taste of his lips. I remembered the sweet things he would say to
me. How beautiful he thought I was. How sweet he knew I was. He made me smile
with every honeyed word and every tender touch. I found my hands touch my arms
as I wrapped them around my body. Here I was close to the bottom, and Axel was
waiting there for me to catch him.

I instantly felt the need to apologize to him. Yes, I was
still a little angry, but I wanted him to hold me in his arms all night.
Suddenly, I whirled around, my eyes wide when I noticed Axel was standing
behind me. I could see a hint of humor in his eyes. It angered me for only a
moment before I fought back a smile.

“I hope you’re not too mad at me, Jaida,” he said, though he
knew that I wasn’t.

“Well, what do you think?” I asked trying to keep up my
frustration. But as soon as I saw him, the anger dissipated immediately.

“I think you’re not as mad as you let on,” he said causing
my grin to break away from the restraint I put on it before I tried my best to
reel it back in. I managed to bite my lip, though that didn’t work well.

“Well, I am still mad at you,” I said crossing my arms and
turning away from him.

“Sure, you’re mad at me.”

“I am,” I shot back as I stupidly looked into his eyes.

“And what could I do to make it up to you?” he said, his
hands were tucked in the back pocket of his slacks as he stared hungrily at me.

I turned my back to him, and walked alongside the edge of
the cliff. Only a few steps as I continued to fake my anger. My arms were still
crossed and it was convincing, save for the crooked smile on my face. I heard
him chuckled behind me, and turning to look over my shoulder, I caught a
glimpse of it before turning my head back around.

My heart skipped a beat when I heard him take a step towards
me. He chuckled deeply, before I felt his lips against my hairline. I tried to
keep my arms crossed as he tugged against them, but failed utterly when I felt
his arms wrap around me. He pulled my arms apart with little to no effort at
all before I felt his palms against the firmness of my stomach.

He pressed his body against mine, and I felt his length drag
against my back. My neck rolled backwards as I felt his lips against my neck.
My breathing quickened as I felt his hands grip my breasts.

The roaring of the sea seemed to mimic our passion as the
seconds grew hotter with each and every kiss. I moaned against his mouth as he
kissed me. He turned me around to face him as he gripped my bottom firmly in
his grasp. I gasped into his mouth at the suddenness of it.

He groaned as I felt his length through his pants, my hand
teasing the outline as his hips bucked in response. I felt his teeth scraped
against my lips; he was hungry. Accepting his tongue into my mouth, I moaned at
the intensity of our pleasure. His hand gripped a handful of my curls tight,
the pain was bare able and erotic as he devoured my lips.

Finally, he couldn’t bare it anymore. He lifted me up and
onto his shoulder with a grunt, and walked off towards the house. I was shocked
and let out a squeal of delight as we neared the house. His aggressiveness
turned me on to the point where I thought I would bust! Clearing the stairs in
four large steps, he crossed the length of the bedroom and threw me down on the
bed.

“You still want to be mad at me?” He asked as he began to
strip his clothes. I started unfastening my dress as well.

“Maybe just a little bit, could make for an interesting
night,” I said biting my bottom lip as he released himself from his briefs.

“You don’t want me to be gentle, do you?” he asked as leaned
forward and grabbed my things, pulling me to the edge of the bed in one quick
movement.

I gasped at the suddenness of the movement. His aggressive
nature was making me grow excited. He bent low and pressed his mouth against my
stomach, his stubble creating tiny shock waves of building pleasure. The band of
my lace black thongs gripped between his teeth, he slowly began to take them
off; his eyes locked with mine the entire time.

He tossed them away before he returned to unfasten my bra,
and rid me of the lacey material before taking my hardened nipple in his mouth.
He nibbled gently against the bud as I arched my back in pleasure. His other
hand came up to cup the other while he worked magic with his tongue.

I gasped when I felt his hand release my breast only to
massage my sex, deeply, pleasuring me with each touch. I moaned as I arched my
back, forcing him deeper. Lifting his head away from left breast to the other,
I smiled when our eyes met as he began to pleasure the other.

I was going insane with the need for him to give me more
than I was getting. I needed him to be inside me, moving with me as one. I tossed
my head to the side and gripped the sheets as I felt myself climbing towards a
climax. His fingers were playing the piano and my moaning was the music.

My hands came down to grab fistfuls of his hair, before
releasing to score his back with my nails. I was so close, so close I was about
to scream! Axel knew this, but he didn’t release me yet, he kept working his
fingers in such a way that they were dancing against my most sensitive spot. My
hips bucked involuntarily as the pleasure rocked my body. I felt the waves
begin to develop deep with my core. The traveled down, deeper and deeper until
finally.

“Axel!” I screamed as the built up pleasure released around
his fingers.

My body shook against him and my thighs shivered as my toes
curled in extreme pleasure. Only then did he free his fingers, replacing them
with his erect length. He paused just at the entrance, slowly entering as he
waited for me to adjust around his length. I moaned and wiggled my hips to
allow better access as he slid in further.

He pressed his lips firmly against mine, pulling away only to
look into my eyes before he pushed deeper. As soon as he was completely in, his
right hand gripped my hair tight, and his movement became quicker. I knew what
he was doing, and reaching up to grip his shoulders with my nails, I played
along.

“Are you still mad at me, Jaida?” he asked huskily against
my mouth.

“Of course I am,” I said through my teeth.

His movement started getting stronger, faster, and harder as
he continued. My breasts bouncing with every collision of his hips. I moaned
richly into his mouth as he reached down to slap my thigh, his hand then
gripped at the flesh as he picked up his tempo.

He straightened his posture and laid my leg to one side,
barely changing tempo as he continued. Grabbing my hip, he held on as he
continued to thrust into me. I arched my back and gripped the sheets tight as I
felt another orgasm begin to surface. But this time, instead of continuing, he
stopped and flipped me onto my stomach.

I felt his lips press against the small of my back, again a
little further up, and then again on my shoulder before his lips are against my
neck. He spread my legs a little further apart to accommodate his girth before
he slid into me again.

The angle of the position was electrifying and even more so
as he set a smooth, but firm pace. His hand was again in my hair as he nibbled on
my earlobe. I groaned and moaned in pleasure as he thrust with a vigor inside
of me.

And again I could feel the pressure building. I could feel
the waves begin, and again Axel switch positions so that this time I was facing
him. We lay facing each other on our sides. My leg was underneath him before he
picked up his pace yet again.

I could tell that he was closer by his deep throaty growls
of pleasure. My orgasm was building as well; I could feel the pressure
building. His eyebrows were furrowed as he pressed his head against mine. Our
eyes were locked as he pumped harder and faster until he reached his orgasm and
came just before me. I called out louder than I’d anticipated. This orgasm was
stronger than I had ever felt before and rocked my body like the waves of the
Pacific.

Sweat mixed with sweat, flesh pressed against flesh, and
lips locked with lips. We ended our session in a heap of heavy limbs. Our eyes
never left each other’s as we steadied our breathing. His hand was against my
face before he kissed me. His fingers made their way gently along my hairline
as he studied my features as if for the first time.

I smiled weakly as I barely had the energy to do such a
simple task. The lights were still on, the window was still open from this
morning. None of that even mattered. Right now, we were on cloud nine. The only
way to come down was to sleep. Soon after his eyes drifted shut, mine did as
well. The last thing I saw was a small smile before I fell fast asleep.

I woke up to the sound of feet against wood. My head was
snuggled up against a pillow that I hadn’t grabbed myself, and my body was
draped in a sheet. As I pried open my eyes, I saw Axel walk past me before he
walked out of my line of vision.

I figured that he was turning off the light and getting the
room better prepared for a good night’s sleep before my suspicion was confirmed
as the lights shut off, and I felt the bed dip beside me. His arms slowly came
up to wrap around my body and pull me closer to him.

I smiled when I felt his lips against the back of my neck.

“We can stay here, forever if you wanted to. You wouldn’t
have to worry about anything. As long as you were with me. I would love you
unconditionally,” the sweet voice said.

“Axel.”

“With you here, it’s like paradise. I’ve had this place for
years, but
you
make this my home.”

“Oh, Axel,” I said, his words were like sugar melting on my
tongue.

“We could be happy. And whenever you wanted to visit your
family, no matter what time, I would take you there in a heartbeat. I would do
so much for you Jaida, you don’t even know the half of it.”

By then my eyes were closed. His voice had been like a
lullaby. I knew that he meant those words. Every word dropped like a feather on
my ear. They comforted me and made me feel safe. Before I drifted off into a
deep sleep, I thought about this one sentence that stuck out above them all:

“I would love you unconditionally.”
