Anthony sighed and looked at her.

“It’s because they possess something that not even I can have.

They’re the key to beating this monster and I want to have them do the
honors
.”

“But why not us?

You’ve seen us fight in the past and we would be glad to take them down,” her sister Amanda added.

I was getting tired of these girls and I know Darren was as well.

I read his thoughts and apparently they loved to have the attention and will do anything to make sure they have a place on the alchemic council in the future.

It was sick but I knew that some girls had the case of a jealousy bug so i dismissed it as that.

“No Amanda.

You guys can’t help out with this.

You guys are not powerful enough to handle this alchemist.

You may think you are but that’s just your own foolishness.

Alyssa has a power that none of us have and she’s going to be the one to take him down.

I’m sending Darren because she has sentimental ties to him and will be able to keep her on the right track in case
Karakan
uses any brainwashing on her.

“But if you had us we wouldn’t fall for it.

I haven’t been brainwashed in forever,” Kara whined.

“Girls!

I have made my decision.

Alyssa is the only one who can open the Great Rune and can send him to the pits of hell and if you have a problem with that then get the hell out of my face.

I don’t need whiny little girls around; I need strong women who will be able to take my orders despite their own personal qualms.

If you have an issue sort it out at a later time, but right now I don’t give a shit whether you like this or not, I just need you on my side,” he stated sternly.

The girls immediately shut up after that and I breathed a sigh of relief.

These girls definitely had a beef with me, but thankfully they could put their own damn problems aside for a minute and look at the bigger picture.

I turned to Darren and he gave me a small smile, which cause an unseen dislike to form in the three sisters.

I’m sure they have had a crush on him before and would rather see my head on a pike at the moment then be on their side. I didn’t care however; if they had an issue with me they could just say it to my face.

“Fine,” Tara said snidely.

“Good.

Now let’s all meet at Tunnel X a week from now.

I have the forces from the Alchemic Council meeting us at the top.

I will give further instructions from there.

Just make sure you’re all there and ready to fight.

I don’t want anything to go wrong with this because if it does it’s on all of our heads,” he stated.

We all nodded and then he slammed his hand down on the table,
signaling
to us that it was time for all of us to go.

We all got up off our chair and Darren waited for me, grabbing my hand.

I could tell the sisters were livid that I was with him and I gave them a smile of triumph, causing them to give me looks of death.

I’m sure they would try to kill me but at this point I didn’t care.

If they really had a beef with me they would go to
Karakan
and talk about it with him.

We all walked upstairs and the other clans went down the ladder to the fork in the road where they each went different ways.

It was sad that they couldn’t stay longer, but I knew this was just a business meeting and the last thing Anthony needed were tensions between us and them running even higher than they already were.

There was something that was still bothering me and I turned to Darren who looked at me intently.

“So what is this ‘Great Rune’ everyone’s speaking of?

It’s got to be pretty damn powerful to shut those bitches up,” I asked.

Darren chuckled and gave me a small peck on the cheek.

“I’ll show you.

And don’t worry about them; they have had a beef with me from the onset.

It was because one of them tried to flirt with me and I told them I’m sorry but I don’t date
whorebags
like them.

They used to sleep with every young male alchemist and they even had notches on their bedposts according to a friend.

Since then they’ve hated me and apparently that hatred for me equals a hatred for you.

I don’t get it,” he explained.

I chuckled.

“Yep seems like your typical girl issue to me.

That makes sense though, they seemed like they wanted to fucking get me alone and throw me off the cliff or something,” I replied.

“Nah they’d probably just torment you every time you were alone.

They’re too nice for that and they all want spots on the Alchemic Council so they have to be nice,” he stated.

I laughed and started to follow him as he walked.

We walked into a small closet where only the two of us could fit.

It was tight and I was a little confused as to why we don’t just look at it in the living room.

Darren grabbed a small package though; it was only about the size of the palm of my hand.

“This is the Great Rune that we love to talk about.

The alchemist who can expertly control all four elements is able to open this.

Only a few can, and you’re one of them.

Not even my father can and he’s one of the strongest alchemists around.

It requires a connection to the spirit world and communication with the other gods.

It’s weird I know, but for some reason this is how it works,” he stated.

I held it in my hand and immediately felt a surge of power.

“So what do I do with this?” I asked.

“You’re supposed to follow the instructions and call upon the god to vanquish who you need to go to hell.

It’s weird and I don’t fully understand it, but apparently since our magic has been around for a long time it obeys the users who have ancestry in that area.

You have it and so does your mother, but she cannot control all four elements like how you can.

That’s why you’re so damn important to my family.

With me it’s different because I’m in love with you, but to them you’re the key to opening this and finally taking down
Karakan
once and for all,” he explained.

I held it in my hand and I was able to read the inscription perfectly despite not knowing at all what it said.

“So I just read the inscription when I need to?”

“Yep.

Don’t do it now because you don’t have anyone you want to vanquish here and will only send recoil to you.

But once we get to
Karakan
I will distract him while you say the incantation.

Do you got that?” he asked.

I nodded and he smiled warmly. He put the rune back in the bag and gave it to me.

“Here, this belongs to you and I feel like you should hold onto it.

I’m just a lowly member of this family but you’re the one who’s going to save this world and the alchemic world as well,” he stated.

He placed it in my hands and I put it in my pocket.

I could feel the power even then through my jeans and even though it was weird I kind of liked it.

“Thank you.

I don’t know why but I can still feel its power even in my pocket,” I voiced.

“That’s because it remembers your blood.

You’re a key factor in this and don’t forget that.

I may be there to help you but you’re the one who’s going to save this world,” he replied.

Ahh
.

And you’re not lowly at all.

You’re a great alchemist from one of the highest families in the alchemist world, that’s far from lowly in my book.

And honestly you’ve protected me and saved my life, so I’m even more indebted to you then you think.”

“Well you’ve more than made up your share in debt with your love for me and I thank you for that.

I love you so much Alyssa and even though I told you that just yesterday I’ve been feeling it for a while.

I will protect you.

I always will,” he replied happily.

I smiled and gave him a kiss which lasted longer than a fleeting second, our tongues and mouths meeting one another in a passionate dance that I couldn’t help but feel when I was with him.

I loved the feeling and I couldn’t stop it.

I wanted to be like this forever with him, and I knew I wasn’t going to lose him in this fight.

We broke away and walked out of the closet, closing the door.

It was still daytime so I walked upstairs and changed into some comfortable clothing and went down to the secret forest down at the bottom to go train. I was hitting my mark every time, like an expert swordsman cutting its adversary.

I didn’t know what was going on, it was almost like I had become the person I was destined to be.

I could feel the rune’s power even within me at this second and I almost melted in it.

I was getting even more powerful by the minute and I could feel it increasing manifold.

I didn’t want to overexert myself however so I went back inside after a couple hours.

I went through the secret tunnel way to the cave again and walked back upstairs, and I could see the small smile present on Darren’s face as I walked by.

I know he was checking me out, and I flushed at the thought.

But at the same time I loved it, and I wanted him to continue.

I got ready for dinner and Eliza made us a great meal of chicken and potatoes with a salad.

I was hungry as hell so I ate it all almost instantly.

After I put the dishes away and walked back upstairs.

Eliza and Anthony could tell that something had changed but they both knew to leave me alone.

I went to my room and I could feel the rune’s power flowing through me even more now.

I went to my bed and laid down in it, sleep overtaking me almost instantly.

I dreamt about the future and all I could see in it was peace and happiness with Darren in it.

Chapter Fourteen

The rest of that week was about the same as it was before, except for a few things.

For one, the rune’s power was definitely getting stronger and I felt like I was getting stronger with each day and I was starting to get used to the sheer amount of power going through me.

I loved it and for some reason I wanted even more.

Darren was here for me and we slept together again the night before.

It was amazing and I loved him so much.

He was always there for me and I knew I was going to be there for him.

Not going to lie, he definitely knew a lot of things about that area and he took me to a whole new level.

I loved it and even my parents were okay with seeing him and were actually proud of me that I wasn’t dating some
skeez
and I was instead with a great guy who definitely cared.

The night before the attack I was with Darren.

He helped me sleep in more ways than one but I felt safe and protected around him.

He cuddled me in his arms like I was a baby and I felt like I had a protective shell over me.

It was nice, and that night I actually got sleep.

The next day we were getting ready to assemble.

We grabbed what we needed and Darren and I wore our
catsuits
from our trip to Egypt.

Somehow Eliza and Anthony were able to upgrade them and made them even better than what they were before.

I put it on and placed the rune inside my suit, holding the item in my bra snugly.

I walked downstairs and Eliza and Anthony were wearing suits as well.

Anthony had a ready look on his face and I knew he was excited for what was to come.
