Yeah, I didn

t realize it was so bad until I became one,

I agreed.

I never cared who was vampire, shifter, or human. It was just the good or bad guys to me. Now that I am a shifter, I can

t even tell you how much grief my team and I get from people we

re supposed to be on the same side with.

See, Sera

s not evil
.

Riley

s
voice sounded strangely faint, and
I glanced at him
, seeing
he was still sitting on a pillow on the floor, naked, looking lost and in shock as he stared off in
to space.

She wasn

t even a bigot against our kind when she was human.

I didn

t say
Sera
was evil,

Tristan defended.

I said she was, meaning the
s
iren.

Oh bullshit, Tristan,

I growled but then held up my hand.

It doesn

t matter, this has to wait.

I turned to Zeno.

We have a cast of the claw marks at my office so we can compare sizes. If it won

t hold up your travel plans
,
I

d very much appreciate you coming to my office tomorrow and ruling yourself out. Because I do need help with this case. Either someone in the local pack is killing, or we

ve got a lone wolf or cat running around killing humans.

No, we

re staying for another week. I

ll be down at your office first thing in the morning,

he replied
with a smile
. Wahoo! Someone was finally trying to make my life easier instead of complicating it!

I gave him a relieved smile and then glanced at my phone when it beeped with the crime scene address.

Vlad, can I borrow a car?

Of course,

he answered immediately and waved over one of his
scantily clad
people.

And might I suggest a long coat since you seem to be going straight in
to work.

I glanced down and busted out laughing at the idea of walking into a crime scene like this.

Um, thanks, that would be great. No way I wouldn

t get shit for this.

We

ll see you tomorrow morning then
.

Alena
gave me
a smile
like we

d just made a coffee date an
d moved out of the way.

I

ll help you, Sera. Don

t worry.

She touched me lightly on the shoulder, and
,
while she really was a stranger to me,
I felt reassured.

Thank you.

I was still worried but was able to push it aside when I knew there might be a solution coming soon. While I waited
for the car keys and coat,
I crouched down in front of Riley so he

d focus on me
instead of continuing to stare blankly in to space
.

Was I at least any good?

h
e asked in a daze. I didn

t think this was shock anymore.

Yes, you were wonderful, Riley,

I whispered and glanced at Alena with a raised eyebrow.

Being with a
s
iren is comparable to humans taking happy drugs,

she explained.

It
a
ffects everyone differently but is also somewhat addictive. Plus, most times when you siren someone
,
they feel as if they

ve just been hit with a very large truck for a while.

Comforting,

I grumbled and glanced at Vlad.

Will you take care of him? I

m at a loss what to do and what would make this easiest for Riley. But I can

t bring him with me
,
and I don

t think he should be alone if he

s all loopy like this.

Agreed.

Vlad
gave me a sympathetic
nod.

Why don

t you swing by after you

r
e
done at
work and come get him? Until then, I will make sure he is looked after.

I just got myself another roommate, didn

t I?

I groaned internally.
I d
id
n

t know why I bothered asking the question since I knew the answer. Vlad and Alena nodded. Yup! Great.

Okay, well we don

t move in
to the house until this weekend and I have a small apartment.

I can take Riley home and watch him, Sera,

Tristan said quietly.

Yeah, because I trust you as far as I can throw you,

I sneered, not even roping in my disgust for him right then.

You

re already jealous and think I

m evil. I

m not leaving Riley when he

s in a compromised position in your care.

I stood and turned to him.

Actually, why don

t you stay here until the move and I can take care of Riley tonight.

Sera, don

t,

Tristan
whispered as he blinked rapidly.

I

m sorry. I didn

t mean it how—

I. Don

t. Have. Time. For. This,

I bit out, making sure the words were crystal clear. Just then one of Vlad

s guys came over and handed me a set of car keys and a white, knee-length trench coat.

I

ll be back for Riley. Thank you, Vlad.

He gave me a nod
,
and I headed for the door. I could feel more than hear or smell Tristan behind me. Suddenly something lurched in my head, making me almost lose my step
,
and I think my
s
iren found her voice.

You just walk away? He hurts us and you just leave. Punish him!

No, not right now and we have a lot to discuss when I

m done working,

I mumbled under my breath as I reached the door. I felt her power surge as it crawled over my skin
, reminding me how intoxicating it had been earlier to let my power free from its restraints
.

Not yet, okay? We just need to hammer this out.

I want my pound of flesh and I am not patient.

Good to know.

I rolled my eyes. No shit. If she was some branch off of me, just as my wolf was, then of course she

d have my basic personality traits. Just wish she had more of the good ones.

Noah turned as I walked out the door, his nostrils flaring.

Did you enjoy yourself?

His eyes glazed over
, filling with lust,
and I knew he could smell what had been going on in Vlad

s house and probably Riley and Tristan on me. The power flared again, the inner evil bitch wanting a taste of him for revenge against Tristan and the hurt he brought on us.

No way! No more minions!

She practically screamed in my head but let me know she would settle for touching Noah intimately while Tristan watched instead. It was her pound of flesh and to show that we could be as evil as he accused us of.

I wasn

t a fan of having to refer to myself as
us
and
we
because there were basically voices in my head. Just for the record.

Fine, but then you let me work and behave until we talk later and I learn the rules from Alena
. I saw a mental image of her nodding in agreement. I swear I was tripping on acid or something. She was me, but almost ethereal, angelic looking. It was like someone did the best
possible
cosmetic surgery on me and made me flawless.
My skin and hair were practically glowing they were so perfect.

Maybe it wasn

t acid but

shrooms?

Sera, wait,

Tristan called out as the door was closing.

Still interested?

I asked Noah seductively as I moved the coat and my purse to my left hand with the car keys.

Yes,

he groaned
,
his eyes going wide
when I took a step closer
.

I hear you

re a player,

I whispered as I moved my body flush against his. I ran my hand up his chest and around his shoulders.

Show me something good then and maybe I

ll come back for more.

In a flash he mashed his mouth to mine as his hands grabbed my hips, pulling me closer to him. I opened up for him, my
s
iren smiling when I heard Tristan, now outside with us
, gasp
. I pulled off Noah

s perfect mouth and tilted my neck while taking his hand in mine. He got the idea, nibbling
and planting soft kisses
along
the path from
my jaw to my ear.

Then I met Tristan

s gaze as I moved Noah

s hand inside my dress and on
to my breast. He moaned and fondled me, his other hand mov
ing
to cup my ass under my dress.

Now I

m being evil, Tristan. But I

m also showing restraint. She wanted us to make Noah ours and replace you for the way you hurt us. Hell, my wolf want
s
to tear your throat out after the
way you have treated me in response to the
kindness and understanding I

ve showed you.

Then my
s
iren took over my voice
,
and
,
while there was no power behind it, it was not me speaking.

There are consequences for your actions. We will not be owned or contained or trifled with. Next time you betray us or turn on us we won

t be so forgiving.

She let me take back control when Noah started to move the hand that had been on my ass around front. I pulled away, adjusting my dress again.

So you were using me to punish him? Sera, that

s no
t
fair,

Noah moaned as he gestured to his groin.

And now you

r
e
leaving me hard and wanting.
