When he finally rode out his release, he lowered his head to her shoulder, fighting for breath. She slid her hands into his damp, tangled hair, kissed the smooth scales along his hairline—and let out a surprised gasp when he started rocking into her again.

Anji felt safe,

“You carry my child,” he whispered. “Our child.”

“Last I checked, that’s what pregnant means. You’re—happy about this?”

“It is all I ever wanted. You, with our child—it is a dream I never expected to have come true.”

“Why? We can—it won’t be a monster or anything?”

“No, my heart. It is simply—difficult, for mixed couples to conceive. That you have, so soon—”

“Means we’ve been going at it like randy teenagers.”

His laughter warmed her. His lips set her on fire, even though his kiss was tender, almost gentle. She moaned, needing him to move, to love her again.

“Anji, we should not—”

“We can, until well into my pregnancy. When I’m bigger than a house, we’ll figure out a way. I had plenty of time to read up on this, Kiele. The doctor discovered it a week after I landed in the infirmary.”

He rolled on to his right side, took her with him, and spread his hand over her still flat stomach. “Hello, little one,” he whispered. “I am your father.”

She laid her hand over his. “And you’re going to be an amazing father. Now come and kiss your baby’s mother.”

He smiled, keeping their hands between them as he obeyed, kissing her breathless.

“I love you, Anji Suun Pearce.”

“I love you back, Kiele Suun.” She draped her leg over his hip and guided his hand up to her breast. “Now love me again.”

“It will be my greatest pleasure.”

She closed her eyes as he loved her, as only he could. He was hers, forever, and they were going to be a family.

Every dream she never dared to have was about to come true.
