She shivered, and he cocked his head and stared at her as he toyed with the strings on her cloak. It fell away, and she stood in only her shift.

“Did you ever think of me when you were with those other men?” he asked as he slid a finger down the exposed skin of her arm. She shuddered at the sensation.

“Sometimes,” she admitted.

“Sometimes?”

She raised her head and stared defiantly at him. “How could I not wonder what would make you crack? You were the only man who didn’t stare at me with lust. Of course thought of you often. Did I wish they were you? Maybe. But it had little to do with love and more to do with…” she suddenly gasped out he reached out and skimmed a finger over the thin fabric that covered her nipple.

“More to do with what, Christine?” he as his other hand caressed her hips. She felt the fabric of her skirts sliding up as he gathered them.

“You were something I couldn’t have. And I wanted it,” she admitted as her eyes drifted close.

“Look at me,” he commanded. She knocked her head against the wall and stared at him. A slow smile crossed his face. “I think tonight, we’ll both have what we want.”

He whirled her around and walked her over to his desk. His arm swept out and knocked off all his books. As papers fluttered to the floor, he pushed up her skirts and lifted her to the desk. The naked skin of her plush cheeks pressed against the cold wood, and she gasped.

“I’m going to taste every inch of your flesh, but I’ll only take you when you’re begging for it,” he ground out. Leaning over, he pressed his lips to her throat, and she rolled her head to the side to give him better access. She knew without a doubt that tonight would change their relationship forever, but even if she wanted to, she couldn’t stop. She never knew how badly she wanted Calvin until now.

The laces holding her shift came undone, and the straps fell to the side. As the fabric slid over her hardened nipples, she moaned. Every inch of her body was desperate for his touch.

Her legs widened as he pushed in between them, and he gently lowered her back to the desk. Immediately, his mouth went to her breasts. They were gentle at first. Nuzzling and lapping, but then his teeth scraped over her nipple, and she felt the muscles in her body tighten with excitement.

“Oh God,” she cried out.

He pulled back and chuckled with amusement. “You like that? Tell me, Christine. You let men take you in darkened corners of other people’s homes, but have you ever let anyone love your body? Have you ever come so hard that you almost black out?”

She lifted her hips in an effort to ease the ache of her sex, but he roughly pushed her hips back down. “Answer the question, Christine. Answer it, or you get nothing.”

“No,” she moaned. “It’s usually quick. Sometimes I don’t even orgasm.”

“Then why do you do it?”

“Without sex, I have nothing,” she whispered.

At that, he pulled back and frowned at her. Cold air rushed to her naked skin, and she reached out to bring him back in. He cuffed her wrists with one hand and pushed them above her head. “What are you talking about? You have wealth and independence. Intelligence and wit.”

“And none of that means a damn in this society. Sex is a weapon. The more I use it, the less society expects me to whimper at the feet of men like an idiot.”

“I had no idea,” he murmured.

She let out sound of frustration and fought against his hold on her. “You’re not seriously going to change your mind, are you? If you don’t finish me, I’ll have to do it myself.”

“And that I would love to see,” he said with a wicked smile. “But you’re not getting off that easily. Do you know how it felt to watch other men touch you? To watch them press their lips against you when you thought no one was watching? My dear, tonight, you’ll get to feel some of that torment.”

He let her go and pulled the shift off her body completely. She lay naked and vulnerable, and his eyes missed nothing as they raked over her. Excitement mounted inside her as she watched him strip his own shirt.

Dressed only in his breeches, he leaned over her again and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and opened her mouth against his. He ran his fingers along her inner thigh and teased the outer layer of her crevice. She wiggled her hips impatiently to get him to touch her clitoris, but his fingers danced just out of reach.

“Calvin, please,” she complained when he broke the kiss.

A deep laugh rumbled in his chest, and he slid his mouth down her body. “Patience, Christine. I’ve waited a long time for this.” He moved down her body, over her breasts, and skimmed along her abdomen. Her eyes widened as she realized what he intended to do.

“Calvin, wait. No one has ever…” A whimper escaped her as his tongue brushed along her clitoris.

“I told you that I would taste every inch of you,” he said as he blew his breath on her. “And you will not deny me.” His tongue lapped over her again, and everything inside her tightened.

She shivered at his ceaseless assault against her sex. It was like nothing she had ever experienced before, and the hunger for release mounted within her. Soon she was bucking her hips against him, crying out for more, desperate for that moment where everything would break, and then suddenly, he was gone.

“No,” she whimpered. “Please.”

“Oh my dear,” he murmured. “You didn’t think I’d make it that easy, did you?”

She raised her head to watch him shuck his pants, and her eyes widened when they took in the length of his sex. Dear God, she’d never had anything quite that impressive.

He pressed it against her and rubbed his erection along her opening. It slid over her clitoris, and she cried out in agony. “Please, Calvin. Please.”

“Beg me,” he muttered darkly as he leaned over her. “Beg me to take you.”

“I am begging,” she growled as she tangled her fingers in his hair. He suckled at the sensitive spot at the crook of her neck, and she urged his head up. Locking eyes with him, she licked her lips. “Take me, Calvin. Now. I need it. I need you.”

His eyes darkened with lust, and he thrust inside her. She cried out as he buried himself to the hilt. “Christine,” he gasped. “You feel so good.”

As he filled her like no other, she wrapped her legs around him and urged him on. Sex had never been like this. It had always been quick, and here he was worshipping her body. She was no stranger to pleasure, but it had never been as intense as this.

He moved his hips, and she was lost. Crying out his name over and over again, she let him stroke her until she could finally take no more. Her toes curled, and goose bumps covered her body as he drove her higher and higher into the arms of madness.

Every time she thought she was close, he would change pace. She dug her nails into his skin with frustration and sank her teeth into his shoulder. He muttered a curse and lifted her legs. As he sank even deeper, she lost it. With a scream, she bowed her back and gave everything that she had to him. The orgasm rocketed through her, and she knew from his shout that he’d found his own release.

And just like he’d promised, she fell back into the arms of darkness.

Chapter Five

Calvin covered her gently and carried her to the bed. She stirred as he placed her on the mattress, and he smiled. She was covered in sweat, and her hair was a wild mess across his pillow, but she looked as he had always pictured her. Completely satisfied.

“Are you all right?” he asked as he knelt by the bed.

“I don’t think so,” she murmured. His heart sped up, and for a moment, he thought she would scream at him in anger. “This has changed everything, Calvin. I’m afraid you have no idea what you’ve gotten yourself into.”

Lifting his eyebrow, he smiled at her. “And what is that?”

She reached out and stroked his face. “How can I have experience another man after that? You’ll have to satisfy me on a daily basis.”

Chuckling, he reached out and grabbed her hand. He felt her tug gently, but he wouldn’t let go. “So you’re not going to marry Owen tomorrow?”

She scowled. “Did you not hear me? He’s a madman. He’s not the same person who claimed to love me.”

“Do you love him?” It was a simple question, but he knew that if she said yes, his entire world would fall apart.

She bit her bottom lip and stared at him. “I thought I did. The truth is that I’m not sure what love is. He took me by surprise, and that doesn’t happen often. Of course, tonight, you’ve also taken me by surprise, but it’s different. There is something between us that I always knew existed, but I could never identify it.”

“I love you, Christine. I’ve watched you bed others, and I’ve watched you come to me for comfort time and time again. If you’re looking for love, it’s right here. And if you need time to process that, I’ll understand.”

“I think you just spelled it out for yourself, Calvin. I did bed other men, but I’ve always come back to you. I think all along I knew that I loved you, but I didn’t understand it. I couldn’t comprehend it. You never acted as though you reciprocated those feelings.”

“I was protecting myself,” he whispered. “From rejection.”

“I suppose I was doing the same.” She gave him a small smile, and his heart skipped a beat. The object of his affection wasn’t just in his bed. She was professing her love to him. It was everything he’d ever wanted. He leaned down to kiss her when he was interrupted by someone screaming.

“Where the hell is she, Calvin? Where is my bride?”

“Damn it,” he muttered. The butler had let Owen in. “Stay here. I’ll take care of this.” She sat up in bed as he grabbed a pair of breeches and slipped them on. Opening the door, he followed the sound of his cousin’s shouts down the stairs.

Owen turned his head. “Where is she?”

“Lose you bride so quickly?” Calvin said calmly as he crossed his arms. “That’s a shame considering it’s the night before your wedding.”

“I will marry her,” Owen snarled. “Tell me where she is.”

“And what makes you think I have her?”

“I know she ran in this direction.” He tried to push pass Calvin. “Christine! Come out here right now!”

Calvin gripped Owen’s shoulder and slammed him into the wall. “You listen here, Cousin. I know the game you’re playing. You know that I’m fond of Christine. You think that if you marry her, I won’t kick you out on your worthless ass.”

“Fond of her?” A cruel smile crossed his face. “I happen to know that you’re hopelessly smitten with you. I don’t care if you kick me out and sell the property. Everything that’s hers will belong to me. And I’ll get to parade her around in front of you and provide you with every detail of how I rut her every night.”

“I don’t think you will.”

Both men whirled around at the sound of Christine’s cold voice. She stood in the doorway wrapped only in a blanket. “I will not be marrying you tomorrow, Owen. And you will never get your hands on any part of my body. Have I made myself clear?”

His demeanor changed. “Sweetheart, I’m sorry. Calvin brings out the worst in me. I love you. Don’t let him break us a part. He’s just jealous.”

She smirked. “Why would he be jealous? In case you haven’t figured it out, I let him have everything he’s ever wanted tonight. And you know what? I loved every second of it. I can’t get enough. I think I’ll marry him tomorrow instead.”

Calvin felt his heart skip a beat. Was she serious? He tried to keep cool. “I don’t recall asking you.”

“I think that, after all this time, you deserve a little begging from me. Marry me, Calvin. Make an honest woman out of me. I promise you loyalty and love for the rest of our lives.”

“You can’t be serious,” Owen snarled.

Calvin pushed him aside and crossed the room in two steps. Wrapped her in his arms, he kissed the top of his head. “If you tell anyone that you proposed to me, I will deny it until my last breath.”

“And how will you tell this story?” she asked as she buried her head in chest.

He thought about it and smiled. “I take it back. I’ll tell people that you begged for it.”

Laughing, she slapped a hand against his chest and lifted her chin to face him. “Me? Begging a man? Nobody in their right mind would believe that.”

“I don’t think I care, Christine. I don’t care what damn society thinks. I will marry you tomorrow. And I’ll spend the rest of my life making you pay for what you’ve done to me for this past few years.”

“Making me pay like earlier?”

“Oh yes.”

She shuddered in his arms. “I accept wholeheartedly!”

As Owen screamed in anger behind them, he pulled Christine back in his arms. The agony of his wait was well worth this moment. She loved him. And she would be his for the rest of their lives.

Even the king himself came out to see the wedding. Lady Christine Moors became Calvin’s Countess, and everyone had to see it to believe it. The woman with the shady reputation had finally succumbed to the love of a man. People would be talking about the marriage for years. It was obvious of the love between the two. Some would say that they’d always betted that Calvin would win her over in the end.

No one dared to seduce the lady after that day. She had eyes only for her husband, and it was obvious that her wild days were behind her. Although she was forever opinionated, she was loyal to her husband.
