Playdate with
a Billionaire
by Samantha Forest

Light sprinkles of Coco noir by Chanel drizzle upon a few specified areas of my sway crème dress. I urgently perfect my reflection in the mirror, assuring that all strands of my chestnut tinted hair are tucked into a sleek ponytail. I quickly gather my belongings within my Coach Nomad Hobo bag, slip into a simple pair of white sandals, and head downstairs. Ayden has already devoured his pancakes, his attention now captured by his favorite teen titans show.

“You ready bud?” He lashes his head towards me and I am once again reminded of how impossible it would be to deny him as my son. Not that I ever would do such a cruel thing, his bright jade eyes are just the exact shade as mine. Ayden nods before running over to snatch his backpack from the stairway; after placing his hand in mine, we rush out the front door.

It's been a few years since his father tragically passed, so I don't blame my son for his short spoken demeanor. During one of his several psychiatry appointments, Ayden's therapist explained that enduring such a significant loss may cause trauma until the early stages of adulthood. I am thankful for each word that my caring son speaks, he is making progress every day.

The route to Maple Ridge Academy is a convenient distance from our house. I've always preferred that Ayden stick with private schooling, as devotion is guaranteed opposed to public. The teachers seem to genuinely value their student’s education, which would explain the conference we are currently headed to.

A swift ten minutes pass by and my Land Rover is already pulling into a parking space at Maple Ridge. I exit and unfasten Ayden from his car seat, proceeding to his classroom for my meeting with his teacher Mrs. Bons. I glance down at my mini-me and find that his cheeks are spread into a broad smile, “What’s so funny Joey?” I inquire by his nickname, my tone stuffed of joy.

We turn a corner just as Ayden gazes up at me through the sunshine’s beam, “My grades are great mommy” He confesses as his chocolate locks slightly shadow his eyes. “That's my boy. Good grades means good ice cream” I enthusiastically blurt, yet my moment of appreciation is cut short at the sight of a long line by his classroom door.

I suppose our rush to get down here was merely pointless, given that there are nearly fifteen others ahead of Ayden and I. As usual, I prepare for the heated wait and fetch out a pair of Ray-ban aviators from my purse. I pass Joey my phone in order to preoccupy him with a few games that I have installed. The sun shoots warm rays of light, allowing my exposed arms and legs to bask. I glance over my shoulder and see that the line has stretched farther than I expected.

Suddenly I am thankful for rushing over here as I realize that only twenty minutes has piled up so many parents. There are three others ahead of us, then we will at last be within view of the inside of Mrs. Bons classroom. While my attention is focused ahead, I watch as a beautiful sea- eyed little girl exits the classroom. Her golden hair tied neatly into a ponytail in resemblance of mine, my thoughts cannot help but fantasize how amazing it would be to birth a daughter. I nosily await for her guardian to exit, and I am unexpectedly stunned.

Her father is a charming, William Westmancott dressed man that I find overly familiar.

I raise my aviators and rest them atop of my head, forthwith locking eyes with the enchantingly scented man. My mind traverses one too many analyzations as my body begins to overdose with memories.  His bronze eye color, sculpted jaw line, and macho build captivates every inch of my senses. The moment is still as outer space as our eyes speak a language of their own… I
know
this man.

***

“I remember you- we use to hangout in high school!” The man stops to recall through his deep tone. My thoughts continue to analyze him when a sudden memory sparks, “
Joseph?”
I blurt of inquiry. His full eyebrows raise in shock, allowing his expression to remind me that he was the high school jock who I had caught cheating on me. “Yeah- and you're Kayla! How have you been?” Joseph eagerly inquires, our kids have begun to chat at this point.

“I'm good, just enjoying life. How are you?” I casually respond as his eyes trace over my body. My teeth cannot help but nibble my lower lip, this man’s features have aged to perfection. “Good, I've been great.
Wow-
you look amazing. It's been..what? Eleven years?” He responds while struggling to add all of the time we've been apart.

Yet before I could answer, he draws his attention down to Ayden. “Look at this tough guy, what's your name?” Joseph questions through a goofy smile. The petite girl beside him loudly answers, “His name is Ayden, daddy. I played handball with him once but- he lost” She lightly teases, I hand her a high- five and she excitedly accepts it. Ayden’s cheeks slam into a grin of mild embarrassment, I suspect that he has a crush on her.

“Cheaters always win, Mia” My son surprisingly bounces back. His voice is playful as I take note of how he communicates more so with his friends, something I value to witness. Joseph and I share a moment of laughter, it is refreshing to see the innocent chemistry between our children. They proceed with their verbal competition as Joseph watches me as a hawk.

“So do you have anything planned for this coming weekend?” He smoothly wonders aloud.

I attempt not to break the intense link between our eyes, but find myself needing to briefly look away. “Not really, probably just going to the theaters with Ayden. Why do you ask?” I jest-fully inquire. Joseph's dark blue eyes glide down to my lips before reconnecting with my eyes.

“Our kids bond so well- it’d be insane of us if we didn't exchange information for a play date” He calmly entails whilst gesturing towards our kids. I take a moment to soak in the sighting of my son using his words in ways that I haven't seen, prompting a thought of mine to contently agree, “I suppose you're right” I shortly affirm as my hand places itself on Ayden’s shoulder.

Joseph’s expression displays an emotion of joy that I wouldn't expect to see upon his face, “Great, how about I take down your number and the two of you stop by this Saturday?” He politely implies. I easily comply and enter my contact within Joseph’s fancy iPhone. By the time we have parted ways, I realize that the line behind Ayden and I had progressed to go around us.

Although we were first at the time Joseph and I began to speak, we are now nearly half-way down the line. Suddenly, I begin to wonder how he managed to hook my attention for so long.

***

I put together a trendy outfit for Ayden before heading to take my shower. I assure to lather all of the feminine creases of my body after shaving my skin to a silken texture. The week has passed so fast, that I now attempt to grasp hold of my nerves. I had paid several months of my life to isolation after my husband had passed. – And it has been numerous years since I have actually spent quality time with anyone other than my son.

Yet here I am now, living a shiny Saturday morning spending nearly an hour to dress myself in order to meet with the main man that screwed me over during high school. I snatch my thoughts away from the past and forth effort to realize that my bouncy curls will not dry unless I wrap a towel around them. “Wear your black converse!” I holler from the bathroom as I had forgotten to complete Ayden’s outfit with shoes.

I know that he has heard as I can hear his footsteps trampling up the stairs, it's a shame that he won't open up to me. I see a lot of potential in this play date, if Ayden is more comfortable with his friends then so be it. I slide into a black, floral dress and smooth some Garnier fructis conditioner within my tresses.

After touching up my eyebrows, I apply a thin coat of mascara to my lengthy eyelashes. I admire my natural beauty before exiting the bathroom and assembling Ayden in the car. The built in navigation in my Range Rover informs me that the drive to Joseph's house is around thirty-minutes. We arrive ten minutes late, and are both amazed of the lavish golden gate that boarders a broad stretch of land.

The gate almost immediately buzzes us in and allows us to proceed up a long, curvy road that leads up to the driveway of a considerably
massive
mansion. I gather my scattered senses and shift the gear of my car on to park as I remain uttered by Joseph's tremendously beautiful home. I turn my attention to Ayden and find that he has already unbuckled himself from his car seat. After shutting the car door behind myself, I take Ayden's hand within mine and begin to guide him to the entrance of the house.

The door is instantaneously opened as we are welcomed by Mia, "Hi honey, Is your dad around?" I enthusiastically question. She spreads a small smile and embraces me with a hug, "Sure, come on in" Mia answers while holding open the door. Ayden pushes his way through the door step and pulls me inside, my eyes are met with an exquisitely furnished room. The theme of the house is a vintage cherry- wood, each set of furniture polished to finesse.

As my head slowly circles in observation of the house, my sight suddenly lands upon the well-dressed and charming man that has arranged this whole play date. "Joseph, this is a lovely home you have" I softly compliment. He sends me a warm expression, "Thank you, that is a lovely dress that you have on" He tributes in response, I take note that he has just paced down a towering staircase. "Do you have any video games?" Ayden eagerly asks Mia, prompting her to take Ayden's hand from mine and lead him into the depths of the mansion "I have
tons"
She excitedly affirms as they both leave Joseph and I.

***

"Listen, I know it's probably too soon to discuss. But I'd just like to apologize for our whole high school fling" Joseph apologetically speaks. In his right hand pours a lavish bottle of the darkest red wine I've seen. He fills two glasses and smoothly approaches me to relax upon the couch. "I mean it. We were young, I was dumb. But we're grown now and many things have changed" Joseph continues to speak whilst his eyes lock with mine. I can vividly see that a vast majority of his persona has matured, however I remain a bit uttered by his monstrous mansion. "You've got that right-" I respond as our glasses chime to a cheers.

"My thoughts have been restless since the moment I got here. How have you managed to settle in such a superior house?" I blurt from raging wonder. I can see a sparkle of dancing humor in Joseph's royal blue eyes as he sips down a mouthful of wine. "I pursued many years in the oil industry. Damn near quit- until I suddenly received a major promotion. The pay has been ample ever since" He tells through a convincing demeanor. I sip down a bit of wine, my plump lips concealing the thin glass between them.

Joseph's alluring eyes observe every millimeter of my motion, "What is it?" I inquire after taking note of his absolute focus upon me. My heart beat is untamable as I am only inches away from his supple lips. "-No, nothing. It's just..." His words dissolve into a wide smile as he nods his head. "It's just, I'm drowning in regret. I should've been a better man to you back in the day" He softly speaks. My head buzzes with a warm delight as his words stimulate my thoughts, or perhaps it's the magic of the wine.

"Don't worry, we were young. Our emotions and desires were still foreign to us. I shouldn't have nagged as much as I did" I admit within laughter. Joseph's thumb strokes his wine glass, forthwith dunking the last serving of the red liquid down his throat. After setting aside his cup, his hand reaches for me. Before my mind could process his action, I am melted by the touch of his fingers caressing my cheek. "I'm looking at you now and I can't help but crave you. I have a very...distinct desire to retouch and progress with where we left off in the past. It was truly a blessing that we crossed paths" He sincerely expresses. My heart rate quickens as I admire his fair tone and naturally bold brows.

"I couldn't agree any more than that... It's been years, yet I feel as though I still know you like yesterday" I speak as our eyes penetrate one another's soul. Time passes as our connection restores itself like never before. The man in front of me is no longer a man in general, rather Joseph St. Martin. A being that I am now overly familiar with. The light of day has sunk to the dark of night, all the while Joseph and I have bonded on various levels. "It's such a beautiful thing to see your lovely green eyes paired on your son as well" Joseph compliments. The time has now reached seven in the evening. The bottle of wine is tipped and empty, leading us to sip water as I will be heading soon. "Vice versa. I saw your daughter exit the classroom at the parent meeting- her blazing blue eyes- I had to see who her father was. The color looked so familiar, and here we sit now" I explain while crediting my memory of the inherited shade of Joseph's eyes on his daughter.
