er body was still trembling
. She looked down at Gage. Her thighs chaffed from his stubble. His lips wet from licking her senseless. But all she could think about was him filling her. Being inside her. Joining them in some kind of magical shifter bliss.
She nodded. “I’m going to love it too. I want it. I want you, Gage.”
She didn’t care that they were in the woods and that someone could show up on the trail. If he didn’t fuck her now, she would stop breathing.
She reached forward, slipping her fingers inside the waistband of his boxers. She shimmied them off his solid legs. He was built like an Olympic athlete. She was in awe of his incredible body.
And holy shit, his cock was thick and long. She stared at it, erect and hard for her.
He grinned a mischievous smile, leaning down over her. He kissed her breast, sucking hard on her nipple.
She ran her fingers over his head. “Ohh, I like it when you do that.” It sent little pulses to her core.
He kissed along her collarbone, stopping to nip and suck against her skin. “I meant what I said, Avery. I will protect you. I will love you.” He pressed his lips to hers. “Now let me fuck you.”
She realized her knees were pressed shut. She had joined them, clamped them together maybe by instinct, maybe by accident. He was hovering over her, waiting for her to invite him in.
This was it. The moment that would join her with Gage forever. She wanted forever. She wanted to spend her life with someone. She had picked the wrong someone. Looking in Gage’s eyes, she knew this was the man. He was the one meant to sweep her off her feet. He was the one meant to give her the family she wanted. He was the one who would build a life with her in St. Claire.
“Avery?” he whispered.
She let one knee drift to the side and then the other. “Make me yours, Gage. Claim me.”
He dragged his lips over hers. “It’s been so long, I don’t want to hurt you,” he growled. “But I can smell you and taste you.”
She shook her head. “It’s been a long time for me too. I want to feel all of it. Don’t hold back. Please.”
He shifted so he was settled between her legs. She could feel the hardness of his shaft against her thigh.
“Will you let me take you the way my bear wants you?” he whispered in her ear.
She was so turned on by him, he could have asked to dangle her from a tree to have sex and she would have said yes.
“What does your bear want?”
“This.” His hands sank into her waist and he flipped her on her stomach. Before she could acclimate to the new position, he yanked her ass in the air.
“Gage, I’ve never…”
But he didn’t let her finish. His cock was nudged against her entrance and she felt an overwhelming searing sensation rush through her body. It was clawing at her, driving her, screaming at her to giver herself over to his bear.
“Avery.” His hand ran over her back as her hips began to rock, coating her honey over his thick tip. “Just like that.”
She was grinding against the pressure of his erection, stretching only her opening. But it was enough to begin the sudden electric pulses in her core. She panted as she rocked harder. The full head of his cock slipped inside her and she groaned.
She couldn’t move anymore. It was too intense and consuming. His body was heavy on hers. She didn’t know how long he stayed locked against her entrance. Her fingers gripped the makeshift blanket of their discarded clothes as she tried not to buckle under the searing pain.
When she thought she couldn’t take the stretching anymore, she felt a bolt of steel slam into her. Gage’s hand tugged on one of her nipples while his other hand grabbed a fistful of hair. She screamed as he plunged into her center and then felt an overwhelming ray of bliss course through her.
“Ahh,” she moaned. The pain had turned to pleasure in an instant as Gage began to ride her from behind. It was glorious and exquisite how he would slide out of her, then thrust deep inside.
He gripped the soft flesh above her hips. “Fuck, Avery. I can’t slow down.”
“Don’t,” she urged. She was quickly building the throbbing heat that would send her into oblivion.
“You’re mine,” he roared into the forest.
“And you’re mine,” she cried as he pumped in and out.
She wanted to savor the feel of him, his heavy masculine scent, his strength and power as he consumed her body. She wanted to remember how he made her feel like the sexiest and most beautiful woman. But his climax was building and the harder she clenched around him, the quicker his possession of her became until he let out a roar that vibrated through her body.
With one final thrust he filled her with his hot essence. She gripped around his shaft as it pulsed inside her. It was a beautiful feeling as his magic rolled through her.
Gage collapsed on her back, quickly rolling on his side, dragging her to his chest. She sighed against the heat of their sweaty bodies. She felt completely content and sated.
“You ok?” He nuzzled in her neck.
“I loved it,” she whispered.
His hand tucked under her waist, and she felt the heaviness in her eyes. Her body hummed with something warm and peaceful. Every limb, ever muscle felt as if it were glowing.
The creek bubbled behind them.
“You’re cold.” Gage rubbed her arms.
“I can’t possibly be cold.”
“You have goosebumps. Come on.”
“I don’t want to leave.” The night was starting to fall. The first bits of a pink sunset peeped over the mountains. “I don’t want it to be over.”
Gage looked at the creek. “It’s warm in there.” He waggled his eyebrows. “Want to skinny dip with me?”
Avery laughed. “I’ve always wanted to, but I was too scared.”
“What about now?” He picked her up from the ground, stepping on one rock and then another.
She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I don’t think I could be afraid of anything.”
He pressed his lips to hers. She heard the rumble of his bear. Gage lowered them into the water. She gasped as the hot waves enveloped their skin. It felt like being in a large hot tub. She ran her hand through the water, dripping beads onto his shoulder. God, she loved his huge shoulders.
“Feels good,” he groaned, closing his eyes.
“You know you can put me down,” she said, her hands making circles against the smoothness of his firm chest.
“I could.” He dipped them lower in the water, so that it rushed over their shoulders. “Or I could do this.”
Her eyes flew to his as he adjusted her against his waist. She smiled and pulled her legs on either side of his torso.
“Your bear is very active.” She smiled.
He nipped at her bottom lip. “He has a lot of lost time to make up for.”
She sighed as she felt his cock sliding between her legs.
“Don’t let me stop him.” She fastened her hands to his shoulders. The hot water swirled between them.
Gage looked at her. “Fuck me, baby.”
“Ohh,” she moaned as she sank onto his hard shaft. The ripples of intensity exploded through her as she floated up and down on him.
They held onto each other, surrounded by heat, drowning in their desire for each other until their bodies consumed the other. Avery clutched at Gage and held him while they each shuddered under their release.
“Is this real?” she whispered.
He held her in his arms. “It is.”
She looked up as the last rays of pink hid behind the mountain. “We better get back to the inn. It’s getting dark.”
Gage laughed. “Scared of the dark?”
“I grew up hearing the stories about the wolves and bears out here.” She studied him. “Maybe your relatives.”
“Maybe.” He helped her from the spring and grabbed their clothes from the ground.
Avery shivered, trying to shake the water from her arms and legs before struggling to pull the sweater and jeans over her damp skin.
“I didn’t bring a flashlight or anything.” She looked for signs of the trail.
He threaded his fingers through hers. “Don’t worry. I can see just fine.”
She looked up at him. It was going to take getting used to. The love of her life was a bear.

behind Avery’s car on the motorcycle he had borrowed from Glen. He had driven into town on this same road. Blown in with a puff of smoke and a need to escape the demons from Razastan.
But those demons were the ones that had driven him straight to Avery. He parked on the street in front of the inn.
He waited for Avery on the front steps.
“I feel different,” she said.
“I do too.” He brushed the hair back from her face.
They stood facing the doors. On the other side was where they would start their life together. He never pictured himself a small town guy, but it had happened. He knew the name of every shop owner. He knew how ingrained the town was in Avery’s life.
“I can’t leave St. Claire, Gage.” She squeezed his hand. “Is this where you want your life?”
He didn’t need to give her a ring or the dress or even a damn date on the calendar. What bonded them together was much stronger than that. He’d do anything for his mate, but what she was asking for now was easy. It was the easiest decision of his life.
“It is. It’s where you are. It’s where we’ll raise our cubs.”
“And the inn? You’re ok with it?”
He nodded. “Of course. A retired Green Beret needs a hobby, right?”
She smiled. Her hands looped around the back of his neck. “I’ve never been this happy in my life. Never.”
He pressed his forehead to hers. “I didn’t know I could be happy. I didn’t think I deserved it.”
“Oh, Gage. Of course you do. I want to make you happy. You’ve been through so much.” She looked in his eyes. “Is this too fast for you? Maybe you need more time to sort out…”
“Hey, no doubts.” He had never been much for words. He always thought actions said much more. He could show Avery how he loved her better than he could tell her. She would learn more about his bear the more time they spent together.
She would know she was the parachute that finally let him drift to the light. She was worth staying for. She was his perfect mate.
“Wait, you said cubs?”
He nodded. “Oh yeah.”
She swallowed. “How many?”
His hands cupped the side of her face, drawing her lips upward. “Let me take you inside.”
He felt her pulse quicken under his palms. “We have guests tonight,” she reminded him.
He ran his lips over her mouth. “Then you’ll have to be extra quiet.”
She purred against his tongue. “Take me inside.”
Gage scooped his arms under her legs, and kicked open the front doors. He carried his mate over the threshold. They were bonded in ways only they understood and felt. By the end of this night, he knew there would be one more link connecting them for the rest of their lives.
He nodded at Jenny and Sara as he marched through the lobby. Their eyes were wide. He started for Avery’s apartment behind the office. She giggled in his arms.
“You realize you’re going to have to meet my father.”
“Your father?” He stopped.
Her eyes slanted to the side. “Yes. Is that a problem?”
“He’s not coming back tonight is he?” Gage winked.
Avery slapped on the chest. “No.”
“Then, no, it’s not a problem. I’m happy to meet your father. After I have more time with you.” He planted a rough kiss on her lips. He took a step toward the office door.
“No, wait. Grab the keys for 409.”
“What’s that?” He stopped in front of the key box.
She smiled. “The bridal suite.”
He laughed. “Are you sure we should be allowed in there?”
She lifted the key from the loop and held it in front of him. “I’m not telling our children they were conceived in the woods.” She puckered her lips together. “The bridal suite sounds more romantic.”
“Can we order food from there?”
She nodded.
“And alcohol?”
“Oh yes.”
Gage tapped the elevator button and hit the light for the fourth floor. “You know I’m not letting you out of there.”
He saw the wonder in her eyes. “You aren’t?”
He shook his head, careful not to let the doors hit her when he stepped onto the fourth floor. He paused in front of the door of the suite.
“All I can think about right now is stripping you down and taking you every way you want. And then every way I want.” His eyes hooded with lust. “And then I’m going to do it again.”
The key turned in the lock and he shoved open the door. He walked to the bed and dropped Avery in the center.
“What are you doing?” She watched as he searched the closet and the dresser.
“Ah-ha.” He held up the sign.
He opened the door and hooked “Do Not Disturb” on the outside. He clicked the deadbolt in place, and peeled his T-shirt over his head.
“Are you ready for your honeymoon to start?”
She bit down on her bottom lip as he pounced on the bed. “Oh yes.”
He pulled her under him, inhaling every part of her. He had been broken. He had been clinging to the darkness. But Avery had changed all of that. There was a part of his soul that could never be touched. The part that would always be a Green Beret. The part that had survived the attack in Razastan. But there was a new light in his soul, and it started with Avery.
He knew now it wasn’t a punishment to survive. It was a gift. And he wasn’t going to waste it in the darkness.
