When the sun began to dip Hazel had to admit that the day was done; she stormed down the trail positively fuming. She burst into the saloon and plopped down at the bar practically seething.

“Another rough one?” Ezekiel asked eyeing her carefully.

“Whiskey. Tall glass,” she etched out through clenched teeth.

Ezekiel chuckled, “How ‘bout some good music instead; I managed to swindle a Mexican songbird into working for lodging.” He pointed to the stage where a beautiful Mexican girl was singing a sweet mariachi tune.  She wore a bright yellow Mexican skirt that hugged her hips lovingly and flowed freely at the hem. With every twirl it floated in a brilliant circle, and as she flew around the room she seemed to entrance every man in the building. When she finished her song the stage was littered with dollars and catcalls, and whistles echoed through the room.

“She’s worth a pretty penny,” Hazel said as she eyed the young woman who was bowing and basking in her praise. “But I think she’s more useful to the men than she is to me.”

Ezekiel wiped down the bar with a cheeky grin, “Well I certainly think at some point in his life every man could use a little mercy.”

The young woman bounded of the stage and walked quickly to the bar. She stopped abruptly in front of Hazel and took both her hands into her own in a tight grip. Their eyes locked and for a moment even Hazel was lost in the scintillating black irises of the Latina woman.

“You are the French woman, sí?” she asked with baited anticipation.

Hazel cocked a wary eyebrow, “Yes, that is me, and who might you be, mademoiselle?”

The Young Mexican girl squealed, “Mi nombre es Mercy. Ezekiel told me there was another señorita here who had come all the way from France. Is it true you were a bounty hunter? Can you really snuff out a candle with a bullet?”

She looked back at Ezekiel and gave him a bemused smirk, “Surely mercy is a man’s pleasure.”
