He smiled almost sadly. “You and your blunt questions. So smart.” He shook his head
and stepped back. “I would like to help you control your magic,” he said, handing
her a piece of paper. “My personal number. Try and have a good night, and maybe don’t
answer your phone unless you know who it is.”
“Were you right about the one father for all blood witches?”
He shook his head. “Not all. And one more thing, Leslie. You being half were makes
your magic unique compared to other blood witches. You have dark and light. Remember
that. Goodnight.”
She watched him disappear into Forever Wet and the guys came over to her. “This is
a goddamn mess,” Patrick said. “Are you really okay?”
“I am fine,” she said.
“You don’t look okay. What did he tell you?”
“I think Mr. Forever—” she shook her head. “Never mind.”
“No, now I want to know,” Collin said. “By the way, they found a body at a drug lab.
Blood confirms it is the were-drug.”
“The body is being treated as the perp,” Patrick said.
Leslie shook her head. “It doesn’t sound right. I mean things still don’t add up with
the sigils, my blood, and Jonathan.”
“Mark says the sigils were just someone on drugs.”
“Oh they are a lot more. Can you drop me off at Nathaniel’s?”
“Sure,” Patrick said. On the way there Leslie filled them in on what Carlos had told
her and about the memories.
“I will kill him,” Collin said.
“No, I have to unravel this and see why they did it,” she said as they pulled up to
the house and she saw a naked Cathy walk past Nathan’s window.
“What the hell?” she said as her magic flared. She was out the door before any of
the guys could stop her.
“Don’t over think things!” Collin called out as he and Patrick followed after her
up to the door.
Nathan already had the door open for her, eyes bleary. “What’s going on?”
“Why is there a naked chick in your house?” She almost screamed.
“We just got back from running around.”
She looked around and noticed there were others in the room naked. “Oh. I thought
you guys were going out of town.”
He shook his head, giving her an evil gleam. “We ran around the orchards scaring some
of the wildlife for fun. Cathy hit a trap.”
“Oh,” Leslie said again and looked at Cathy. She was tall and pretty, her body almost
perfect except the long gash down her calf. But what really caught Leslie’s attention
was the tattoo on her arm. “The plot thickens,” she murmured to herself.
“What plot?” Nathan asked.
“Hey Cathy, where did you get that tattoo?”
She gave Leslie wide eyes. “Oh this thing. I don’t even remember. It was some drunken
kid thing.” She laughed.
Collin and Patrick tensed behind her. Nathan looked at her and them, a frown on his
face. “I missed a call from you,” he finally said.
“I had an incident at Forever Wet.”
He took her arm and led her to the back of the house and outside. “What happened?”
he asked hugging her to his body.
“I’ve been having these flashbacks. It seems my brain has been muddled with, as Mr.
Forever put it. I believe Cathy is part of this thing, whatever it is and it deals
with Jonathan, those sigils and the were-drug.”
“Tell me everything,” he whispered.
Her phone chirped and her mom’s face appeared. “Hold on. Mom? It’s late what’s…”
“Someone has your sister. They just called and said that you need to forget what you
are remembering and leave Mr. Forever alone,” she said crying on the phone.
“Mom do you have the call back number?”
“It was b-b-blocked.”
“Okay Mom, I will fix this.”
“Leslie, I am sorry. Uncle Ted, I mean Mr. Forever promised no harm would come to
you but never your sister. She was always so jealous.”
“Mom, how do you know about Mr. Forever?”
“He’s been around forever. Should I call the police?”
“No Mom. I got it. I promise I will get her back.” She put the phone in her pocket
and looked up at Nathan and her legs got wobbly and she burst into tears.
“Shh, Leslie. It will be okay. Pack will help,” he said holding her. “Let’s get inside,
I will kick everyone out and you are going to tell me everything,” he said gently,
holding her face in his hand so she could look at him.
