He waited for her at the end of the service and presented her with a copy of the Book of Common Prayer used in the American Episcopal Church. As a child living in Clayton he remembered hearing Patrick preach at the Old Bell Chapel, Thornton: Scruton, 111–15, quoting Abraham Holroyd.
