Part Four: Alpha

The Alpha Wolf was as intimidating as he was beautiful, and I found myself short of breath as I approached him. The group of werewolves surrounding him were no less fierce looking as I came closer, a lone human female encroaching on a pack of werewolves. The Alpha never took his eyes off mine, as if reeling me in with his gaze. His face remained steely hard, betraying no sign of emotion. The other wolves around him stared at me, then at him, then at me again. They were in as much shock as I was.

I didn’t know what was going on, but being called out like this, despite being terrifying, was also exciting. The fact that the leader of the wolves had asked to see me personally meant that at least someone had noticed me tonight, and that was enough for me. It was hotter than normal over here, perhaps because of the dark and secluded nature of the corner, perhaps because of the heat of so many wolves’ skin emanating out from the darkness.

The Alpha stepped down from his chair, making a few wide strides to stand in front of me as I found myself right in front of a bona fide werewolf. Never saw this one coming, I noted to myself as I stared in awe at his blazing yellow eyes, his bristly facial hair, his toned figure. I took a deep breath, then let it out slowly.

“Why did you come here tonight?” he asked me, his eyes cold and searching. I was taken aback, I didn’t expect him to seem so harsh up front.

I started tripping over my words as I tried to form a response and had trouble getting it out. “I...came here with my friend Margo, she knows one of the fairies--”

“Oh. Them.” He said it with no small amount of disgust, but didn’t turn away. He continued to look me up and down, appraising me, trying to read my expression.

“And you? You one of them fairy lovers too?”

“N-no, sir. I just came here because I was curious. I wanted to meet people, have some fun, you know. Nothing serious.”

“Well, you’ve met me,” he intoned, looming over me like a statue. He was so large, and made me feel even shorter than usual. I craned my neck to look up into his glowing golden eyes.

“What’s your name?” he asked, and I coughed a little as I remembered to breathe.

“Tina Blackenstone...sir. And you are…?”

“Most people just call me the Alpha. That’s what I am, after all. I lead this pack. I make the rules. And when the time comes, I choose to mate.”

My heart raced as he mentioned the word
mate
. Surely he wasn’t talking about
me?
I was frail, I was short, I was overweight...could it really be true?

He reached out a hand and entwined it in my hair, his skin sending hot flashes spiking all over my body. “You have been Chosen.”

I looked up at him, heart hammering in my chest as my mind raced with possibilities. Chosen...did that mean...he wanted me?
Like that?
I took a deep breath, reminding myself of my little pep talk earlier.
You’re amazing, you can do this.
I reminded myself, smiling up at him. “And just what does that entail then, Mister...Alpha?” I wasn’t going to go down easy like some brainless barbie. If he truly wanted me, he would have to work for it.

“It means…” he started, looking at me, clearly irritated. “That you’re going to have a very special opportunity. Do you want a special opportunity, Tina? Do you want a reward? Life is hard...we all know that. I can give you something that will make it a little better.”

His words were enticing, as were his eyes. If I didn’t know better I’d say he was trying to do some kind of freaky mind control trick on me. As far as I could tell, I still had control of my facilities however. He
did
state a good case though. I’d been feeling helpless and alone for too long, even with my last boyfriend. If what he said was true…

“What must I do?” I breathed as I suddenly found him even closer to me, his face nestled close to my neck, such that I could feel the warmth of his breath on my bared skin.

“Obey,” he whispered seductively before drawing away.

Part Five: The Den

My mind was overwhelmed by the woodsy scent of the wolves gathered all around me, and I found myself agreeing to go with the Alpha as he took my hand in his and led me away from the crowds, through a thick velvet curtain in the back of the bar.

“What are we doing back here?” I hissed at him, reveling in the touch of his warm hand enveloping mine.

“What we’re doing,” he started with a hint of annoyance, “Is first of all teaching you to keep your mouth shut when I tell you to. Can you do that?”

I huffed and made a face at him, but silently nodded.

“That’s better…” he smiled, running a hand over my cheek. I shivered at the touch, warm but commanding. “Now come along. We have work to do.”

I hurried after him, struggling to keep up with his large strides. I wasn’t quite sure what was going on, but I had a pretty good idea. Why else did anyone slip away to the back of the bar? My heart raced with excitement, but my brain yelled warning messages at me the whole time, spouting things like “don’t trust him!” and “remember what happened last time!” I couldn’t help myself though. The pull of the werewolf was too strong.

I’d always heard stories about people falling for paranormals and the issues it caused, and before now I’d always thought it was a little silly. Why date some mystical creature when there were plenty of humans about? Well, my night at Club Etherealia had changed all that. It was like a whole other world. Did I care what people thought of me? Not in the slightest.

We stopped abruptly in front of a tall red door with a padlock on it. My breath caught in my chest. It looked pretty menacing with the heavy lock sitting there, but this aroused my curiosity ever more. Whatever it was I was about to experience, few had.

He fumbled for a key, then with a loud
clank!
the lock fell open.

With a hiss of air, the door swung ajar, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Inside the warm, dark room was an assortment of furs, a fireplace in the corner and shrubbery lining the walls, vines from multiple plants snaking their way around the room. It smelled like a forest, sap and pine trees and life. With a gulp, I realized what I was looking at. A wolf’s true den. It seemed odd to recreate the natural look and feel of a den indoors, but I wasn’t asking any questions.

“My home away from home,” he said softly, eyeing the place like a parent looks lovingly at their child.

“Wow,” I breathed, taking it in. The sights, the smells, everything was so beautiful. I thought I could hear water rushing in the distance, and the chirp of birds somewhere high in the ceiling. “It’s wonderful.”

“Our old den was…destroyed,” he said with a terrible sadness marking his face. “The owners have graciously helped me create a new one for my people in its stead. It’s not much, but its home to us.”

I walked around the room in awe, feeling the soft moss carpeting the walls and the coolness of the grass beneath my toes. I felt a deep sadness for him in that moment. It must have been terrible to lose everything. I didn’t want to pry into how it had happened, but I felt a fierce anger for whoever had destroyed it. “I’m sorry to hear that.”

“So am I,” he said wistfully, walking up behind me and placing his hands gently around my waist. “But I believe...yes, I believe you can help us.”

My mind reeled in shock.
How?
I hardly even knew that werewolves existed until recently, and here he was thinking I could help his pack? “I’m sorry...what do you mean?”

“It is a tale long told in wolf lore, that if an Alpha is defeated in battle, he may regain his honor by mating with another. The mating ritual allows the strength of two bodies to flow into one, into the Alpha, and he will be strong enough to avenge his rival. It is the way my people have lived for centuries, and I let them down that fateful night. But when I saw you tonight, something jumped out at me. Something special. I don’t know what it is yet, Tina, but you’re the one. I can feel it. I think you can bring balance back to my people.”

Confusion and pride and fear and excitement rushed through me in waves as I took in what he was saying. It was flattering that he saw me so highly, but I doubted my ability to save an entire wolf pack. I was hardly able to keep up with my own daily affairs, much less everyone else’s. I looked up into his warm yellow eyes and the deep sadness behind them. He had lost so much, and he was just trying to do the right thing by his people. I didn’t want to admit it, but I too felt a strange connection to him, and I didn’t want to tell him no.

“Will you help me, Tina?” He asked me, looking deep into my eyes. I felt the warm touch of his skin against mine and the unyielding gaze of his sad yellow eyes. “Will you be my mate?”

Part Six: Mate

I knew in that moment that there was no way I could refuse him. I looked up into his eyes, nearly glowing yellow in the dim light, and whispered, “Yes.”

In response, he said no words but wrapped his arms around me and pressed his lips down on mine, fiercely, hungrily, with an urgent need begging to be fulfilled. I reacted immediately, my hands running over the muscles of his back and my lips playing delicious games between his own. I had never felt so alive; sparks of arousal flooded my system and I leaned into him, desperate to be closer.

“Thank you,” he mumbled, pulling away for a moment. Only for a moment though, because the next he was on me again, his fiery lips working a teasing trail of pleasure all over my skin. He nuzzled his face into my neck, kissing at the tender skin there. I sighed and threw my head back, smiling. I couldn’t help myself, he felt
so good.

“No, thank you,” I breathed, gasping as he nipped at my neck and my ears, making my skin alive with desire. The landscape of the Den blurred in around me as everything became just me and him, our bodies twisting together beautifully as I roamed my hands and my lips everywhere they could reach.

“Clothes,” he grunted, tugging at my dress needily while loosening his own shirt and pants. I obeyed breathlessly, turning so that he could get at the zipper on the back of my dress. It was as if a flurry of animal passion had overcome him, and he ripped at the zipper so fast that my dress split down the seam with a loud
rip!
, causing me to gasp. That had been one of my nice dresses… I only had time to mourn it for a moment as he threw it casually aside and there I was, in my underwear in front of the Alpha.

I suddenly felt self conscious, and raised my hands to cover myself. He gripped them hard with rough strength and brought
them back by my sides, eyeing my body with fiery yellow eyes. “No,” he murmured as he gazed at me. “I want to see how beautiful you are.”

Beautiful...
I thought with a shock of realization.
No one had ever called me that before…
at least, no one that meant it. I thought bitterly of my ex, and how he had hurt me.
No, not now,
I reminded myself.
This is all that matters now.

I leaned into him, feeling the pulsing heat of his skin and the rough earthy smell of having him around me. “I need you, Tina,” he growled, holding my waist as if he thought I would disappear if he let go. “Let us become one.”

I looked up at him and nodded, a strange sense of joy flowing through my limbs. “What next?” I asked breathlessly, both of us standing there hungrily in our underwear.

His eyes flashed as he grinned widely at me, then pulled me to him with a sudden strong movement -- “Mate.”

I cried out in surprise as I was jerked toward him. One arm was wrapped around my waist and one was wrapped around my neck. I was utterly pinned, with nowhere to go. Was I a little scared? Sure. Was I even more aroused? Definitely. The heat between my thighs blazed higher at his advances, and in our closeness I could feel something long and hard pressing against my backside.

“As the Alpha of my pack, I have chosen you, Tina. I claim you in the light of the moon and in the heat of the Den. We shall be together. We shall be mates.”

His voice became deeper, a primal, howling growl before he greedily ripped away my bra and panties. I felt so vulnerable on complete display against this beast, but here I was. My skin tingled all over with a fierce desire, although I was still a little scared and confused about what all this mating business entailed. He said that I could save his people...he said I could fix everything. Did he even know who he was talking to? I could barely fix breakfast in the morning without burning something. But there was something there, something mystical, something I didn’t quite understand, that made me want to trust him. Just this once.

“Come,” he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me along, through the room. We were going somewhere, but I wasn’t sure where. He led me through the Den, through the furs and smells and strange wall hangings. Finally we reached a door. He looked at me, deadly serious and extremely aroused. “We must finish this...under the light of the moon.”

Outside?!
I wondered reluctantly, keeping my hold on him. “Will people see us?”

“Probably not, this door leads to a private grove. Come Tina, the time fast approaches. Come.”

He pulled me through the door and into the cool moonlight.
