It was an election year and the Senator’s rival had a field day with the story. It eventually died down and Senator Reed was reelected but the damage to Mya’s reputation was done. She learned some valuable lessons early in life; shit didn't have to be true it just had to be believable.

After her morning run she decided to grab some breakfast and head over to the office early to finalize some paperwork and get in front of the congressman’s death. On the bright side she didn't have to be in court until next week and that was all tentative.

Removing her jacket and dropping it on the leather sofa she got to work sorting through hundreds of unread E-mails. Most of the E-mails were regarding the death of congressman Macalister; she already got that notification in the form of a 5:00 am phone call from Brian. Brian Smith the ADA was tenacious and one of the hardest working people she knew, he was loyal and dedicated.

They met a few years back when they were both interns. They became good friends. Until one day he proclaimed his love for her but she turned him down. She didn't see him that way. In fact she didn’t see any man that way. Her focus was on her career.

Thankfully it didn't put a strain on their working relationship. He never brought it up again. After she was appointed D.A. their relationship took a turn for the better. Especially when he starting dating a paralegal then got engaged a year later.  She caught him ogling her on more than one occasion but shrugged it off. All things considered they still made a good team.

Glancing at the time on the computer it was already after 3:00. The phone at Karen’s desk started ringing early that morning and hadn’t stopped. It was so busy all day that no one got to take lunch. So she insisted that Karen take a late extended lunch.
Where the fuck was Karen. She had been gone for two hours.

Looking at her phone there were no missed calls or texts so maybe she got caught in traffic. She decided o give her a few minutes but that damn phone was coming off the hook in the mean time.

Chapter 2

Merrick walked into the D.A’s office a bit annoyed from the day’s events to find an empty receptionist area and a ringing phone. Mya called her receptionist Karen but there was no answer. A bit perturbed she got up from her desk and decided to go take the infernal phone off the hook to stop it from ringing every 30 seconds.

Ignoring the enormity large man standing at the desk looking confused she snatched the phone off the receiver and to her surprise it started ringing in her hand. Deciding to ignore that also, she pushed the “hold” button and turned to head back to her office.

Merrick watched the deliberate display completely engulfed by who he thought was the receptionist. He watched her walk from the back deliberately ignoring him. She was breathtaking, long vibrant jet-black hair, violet eyes, long legs and full lips. Definitely his type.

She was wearing a form fitting black pencil skirt, black stiletto heels no stockings, and a tight fitting cream colored low cropped sleeveless shirt
. How the hell does Anderson get anything done with a fine piece of ass like that sitting right down the hall? Yeah… he’s definitely fucking her all hours of the night.

He purposely waited hoping she would turn around so he could see her ass and she did. Man, what a sight. He almost let her walk away watching the mesmerizing sway of her hips.

“Excuse me, ma’am can I get some assistance please?” Shit, that's right there was someone standing there she recalled. Turning around and walking back to the receptionist area Mya, looked at the man standing by the doorway.

He was obviously a cop but one she was not familiar with. Ah…he must be the new transfer the commissioner mentioned. Allowing her eyes to travel down his body…standard issue black boots, dark slacks, nice size bulge…but not the standard issue looks…he was attractive, dirty blonde hair piercing blue eyes, muscular physique, nice arms, he obviously works out vigorously.

“How may I help you?”, she inquired

“I’m looking for Mr. Anderson”, he asked

Mr
.?
Anderson
?”  Mya asked with a smirk. Its not the first time some ass assumed “she” was actually a “he”. What the hell I’ll have some fun with him.

What was it they called me down at the station again?
Ball busting dyke bitch
. I have to keep my reputation in tact.

“Well, There is no
Mr
. Anderson here sir.” Shit her voice was sweet, seductive, and confident.

“You sure? I was told I could find District Attorney Anderson here and the sign on the door says, District Attorney.”

Handsome and a smartass, Mya was intrigued. There weren’t many cops that had the audacity to stand up to her. They stared at each other for what seemed like hours but only minutes had passed. It was Mya who finally broke the silence.

“I’m sorry I didn't catch your name. Detective?”

“It’s Boivin, Lieutenant Merrick Boivin, ma’am and now that you mention it I didn't catch yours either.”

What the hell, I have shit to do; fun is over she thought, besides the way he keeps staring into my eyes is unsettling.

Anderson, Mya Anderson I’m the
Mr.
you are looking for, lieutenant.”

Merrick felt like a sexist shit, “Well I guess there is no
Mr.
Anderson here after all. My apologies, I’m new here and no one bothered to mention that “Anderson” was actually a woman.” Extending his hand he apologized,

“I’m sorry, I assumed”...

“It’s fine”, she cut him off mid sentence disregarding his outstretched hand, “How can I help you detective…I mean lieutenant?”

“Well,
Ms.
Anderson it’s actually what I can help with you with, I was summoned here to brief your office about congressman incident.”

Mya was momentarily caught off guard by the statement and a bit distracted by her reaction to him.

“Incident? What incident? Oh, you mean
that
incident, well you will be briefing ADA Smith who is actually in court this morning and I’m extremely busy at the moment so…you can leave a message with the secretary…who is not here at the moment…. “ Her voice trailed off.

She felt strangely embarrassed and for some reason she couldn't help but feel a twinge guilty for blowing him off. There was a long pause as they stood facing each other.

Finally, Merrick broke the strange silence between them this time. Truth is he was growing a little uneasy; the close proximity to Mya was having a palpable effect on his loins.

“You know what you looked busy when I walked in so I’ll just leave my card and a message at the front desk, that way your secretary can give me a call when she gets in to arrange a meeting with the ADA.”

Mya secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Merrick was making her uncomfortable…a feeling that has eluded her for as long as she could remember. Just then, Karen scrambled through the door.

“Ms. Anderson, sorry I’m late but traffic was horrendous, here is your Venti Chai Tea.”

“Karen, thank you for the tea and for joining us, she responded playfully taking the cup from Karen’s outstretched hand,

“This is lieutenant Boivin.”

“Just Merrick is fine he interjected”, regarding the young sprite woman before him mid twenties by the looks of her.

She was dressed in professional attire black pin striped pantsuit, white colored shirt, comfortable shoes and long blonde hair pinned into a neat roll. Definitely fuckable but not as much as little miss D.A.

“Karen, can you please make an appointment for the lieutenant to see Smith as soon as possible, enjoy your day lieutenant”, she turned and walked away before he could reply.

He watched her glorious ass walk down the hall and into her office; she didn't even take a second glance back as she closed the door.

When Merrick looked up Karen was glaring at him with a smirk. “If you would like to come over to my desk I can check Brian’s…I mean Mr. Smith’s schedule and see when I can pen you in.”  She turned to walk back to the reception area and he followed.

For some reason looking at her ass was not on his mind but he looked anyway. He decided it was a nice ass but not as nice as Mya’s, Karen walked ahead keenly aware of Merricks eyes on her.

When they reached the reception area she sat down and fiddled through the schedule book. He stopped on the other side of the desk deep in thought about his encounter with Mya. How is tomorrow late afternoon around 5:30 pm?

Glancing at his TAG Heuer watch he noted it was already after 4:00pm. “Yep, that works. Ok I’ll pen you in detective.”

“Thanks, I’ll see you later” giving Karen a half smile he turned to leave. As he walked to elevator he thought about what just happened. He made an ass of himself assuming the DA was a man but it was worth it.

The encounter with Mya shook him. She caught him off guard and that was a rare occurrence. His cell phone began to buzz just as he pressed the “call” button on the elevator. Reaching into his inner breast pocket he took it out saw it was text from Chris,
calling it a day, Ill see you in the morning
.

As the elevator doors opened he shoved the phone back into his pocket and hit the “P1” button. Time to head home.

Chapter 3

Back in her office Mya read through E-mails. The encounter with Merrick left her shaken.

This was odd since men don't usually have that effect on her. It was usually one of two reactions, intimidation or flirtation. She didn't get either from Merrick, which left her curious about him. Logging into the department’s database she typed in his name. “Boivin, Merrick.” Immediately his information came up.

Merrick William Boivin

Address: 4210 West 5
th
Avenue

DOB: November 28, 1984

Place of Birth: Chicago, Illinois
.

Marital Status: Single

Parents: Deceased

Siblings: 2

There was a plethora of information on him but her basic questions were answered. The rest can be explored at a later time.

With her curiosity satisfied she could get back to work. Just then the E-mail notification popped up on the corner.  She opened it to find an E-mail from Brian

Morning Mya,

It’s been a tiring day. I will be down to see you in 10 minutes, we can walk out together. Karen just informed me that a detective was here to see me. I will be meeting with him late tomorrow afternoon. Will you be attending?

-Brian

As she read the E-mail she wondered if it was the best choice to attend. It wasn't really debatable although she briefly pretended it was. She
had
to attend. Her response was brief

I’ll be in my office. Yes, I will attend.

M

The minute she pressed send, her office phone rang. She picked up the receiver and heard Karen’s voice on the line, “Ms. Anderson, you have a call from the deputy mayor.”

Are you serious it's the end of the fucking day.
“ Karen I’m in the middle of something right now, make an appointment for a conference call tomorrow, oh and go home.”

“Yes, Ma’am.” She put down the receiver down and decided to call it a day.”

The next day Merrick got to the office earlier than usual. He called Chris in so they could recap the congressman’s case. It wouldn't be long before the press got a hold of it.

“So, what have we got?” I’m meeting with A.D.A Smith and
Ms
. District Attorney Anderson later today”, Chris laughed, “oh so you met Anderson? Hot piece of ass isn’t she? She’s a ballbuster though and a dyke I think. Except for that affair she had with the former D.A. a few years back.”

Merrick was not amused. It bothered him hearing Chris refer to Mya that way but he wasn't sure why. Nonetheless, Chris’s comment piqued his interest. “What affair?”

“Rumor has it that she slept with the former D.A. when she was an intern or assistant D.A. or something. His wife found them fucking in the copy room one night. There was a big fight and it ended in divorce. He stepped down and Anderson was appointed. Her father is a senator somewhere…California I think. It wreaked havoc on his campaign at the time the whole issue was news for a hot minute.”

Merrick took the information from Chris like a grain of salt. He learned a long time ago that men liked to gossip a whole like more than women especially when pussy was involved. He decided to slightly segue the subject.

“Thanks for the heads up by the way, when   you said Anderson I assumed you meant a man.

“Oh shit, really? How did that go? I bet your fucking jaw dropped when you saw her fine ass. Man! That bitch has a nice rack. Some of the guys from the department go see her whenever she’s in court just to watch her sweet ass walk back fourth. She’s been here two years and no ones seen her with a guy.

I guess she fucked the DA to climb the cooperate ladder a little quicker then went back to carpet munching. Can’t say I blame the old D.A., fine bitches make it hard to work literally. Why is it the fine bitches that like to eat each other’s pussies?

Oh, the captain is all over this he wants a briefing. The chief was here yesterday when you were at the D.A.’s office with
Ms.
Anderson.”

Getting up from his desk Chris grabbed the file and handed it to Merrick. “Here’s what we got so far. You might want to read this before you brief the captain. I got Jeff in IT to pull the Congressman’s bank statements, E-mails and social media accounts yesterday, turns out he’s into some kinky shit. He was E-mailing someone for the past two months. Jeff is still going through the E-mails. He’ll have the phone records by this afternoon.” The office started to fill with people. They were discussing the case for two hours.

Grabbing the file, Merrick headed over to his office to process all the information Chris just piled on. It was getting loud at Chris’s desk.

Walking into his office he pulled off his jacket and closed the door shut behind him just as he sat down his phone rang. It was the medical examiner.

He finished a preliminary examination of the congressman’s body. That's another stop to make today before the meeting at the D.A.’s office.

His mind strayed momentarily to Mya.
I wonder if she will be at the meeting.
He wanted to know more about her. She was definitely on his to do list. She seemed cold and unobtainable a workaholic… if there was any basis to what Chris said she might be into older men. So she would be a challenge. This should be interesting…

Merrick familiarized himself with the congressman’s life in 30 minutes flat. He seemed like a decent enough man but the word decent and politician didn't fit in the same sentence. He obviously made some enemies. Based on the way he was killed this was personal. He fucked someone over and they took revenge.

That's the strange thing about revenge it comes when you least expect it sometimes…most times.  What’s fucked about this is the potential long list of suspects.

Anyone from a family member to a jaded ex or political rival was a probable suspect. On the upside of this at least he gets to work
closely
with the D.A.s office and the bodacious Mya in particular.

Since meeting her yesterday it’s been hell trying to concentrate.
I’ll have to see Elizabeth later to release some of this tension
. Just then he heard a familiar voice.

Mr. Boivin sorry to interrupt.” He looked up from his computer to see the object of his frustration Mya standing in front of his desk.

What the fuck was she doing here?  How did she get in without him hearing? …Shit.
Must play it off.
“Ms. Anderson, what a pleasant surprise. I’m sorry did I forget our meeting time?” He could’ve sworn Karen said it was later this afternoon. No fucking way he’d get that wrong.

Mya, looked flustered. Damn she was sexy. She was not a patient person. After sorting through more tedious E-mails and meeting with Brian last night she went home and got little sleep as usual. Thoughts of Merrick kept her awake among other things.
