He wanted her to voice what she was thinking. Make the revelation real.
She couldn’t deny him. “I belong to you.” And she did. Mind, body, soul.
He placed a kiss on her shoulder, making her shudder. “Welcome to your new life, Mia.”
Epilogue
Ramierez nodded to the armed tactical team gathered outside Mai’s apartment door. He took a few deep breaths, trying to calm his pounding heart.
“On three. One.”
He’d been frantic since Dylan escaped. He knew the prisoner was coming here. Coming for his sweet, deluded Mia. Whatever problems she was experiencing, he was going to cure her. As a doctor, he’d sworn an oath to protect. That’s what he’d do.
“Two.”
She needed someone sensitive. Someone to help ease her through a confrontation with her past. Someone like him. Not cold, sociopathic Dylan Benjamin. If the bastard held her against her will, he was going to yank his spine out through his mouth.
“Three.”
The force of compressed air blew the hinges off the frame and armed men swarmed into Mia’s apartment. They searched room by room and he clambered after them.
“Mia? Mia?” He checked her bedroom as man after man shouted, “Clear.”
Silence descended, roared in his ears. She was gone. He’d taken her. Sharp shards of pain lanced his heart.
He walked onto the balcony, gripped the iron railing and let out a deep scream of rage. “Mia! Where are you?”
He vowed to find her. He wouldn’t stop, wouldn’t rest until she was safely in his arms.
The manhunt had begun.
