ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I wish to acknowledge the assistance of the staff of the Center for National Security Studies. I especially want to commend the former librarian of the center, Monica Andres, for her frequent encouragement and assistance. Mark Lynch of the American Civil Liberties Union, who represented me so well in my numerous legal battles with the CIA, deserves heartfelt thanks. Zachary Sklar, my editor, who helped shape an inchoate mass into a unified whole, has been of special assistance. I particularly want to thank Michael Ratner, William Schaap, Ellen Ray, and Louis Wolf for their courage in fighting for what they believe to be right and for making this book possible. Special acknowledgment is due my children, Peggy, Jean, Scott, and Daniel, who, while not necessarily sharing my views, gave moral support. Lastly, I wish to acknowledge the assistance of my wife, Norma, who shared and endured my personal strife, and whose unwavering loyalty made this project possible.

About the Author

Ralph W. McGehee was an all-American football player at the University of Notre Dame, where he helped the team to win three regional championships between 1946 and 1949. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. McGehee was an officer of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1952 to 1977. Upon retirement he was awarded a career achievement medal, yet he went on to be highly critical of the organization. In addition to publishing an exposé,
Deadly Deceits: My 25 Years in the CIA
, for years he maintained the CIABASE digital archives, which revealed the agency's activities through the use of public domain resources.
