Death held her to his side, a little wary of the odd sensations taking over his body. He wanted to never let her go, which was very unlike him. Death shifted, pulling her into his arms despite the feeling of cold dread that shivered down his spine. Jamie deserved respect and he wouldn’t treat her poorly because he was freaking out a little over how mind-blowing the sex was. Of course he wanted to keep someone who blew his mind close, what man wouldn’t want that. Great sex was easy but mind-blowing didn’t happen very often and that was all it was making him feel this way. Having dismissed the feelings that had him in their grip, he rubbed his hand down her bare arm and trailed his fingers through her hair.

“Um, we should get up and take showers,” Jamie said quietly and Death could hear a slight tremor in her voice.

“Hmm, or we could lie here and just relax,” Death muttered, a slight smile curling his lips at her feeling awkward after they’d fucked. He knew she was trying to avoid this and that was why she’d disappeared after he’d licked her to completion the other morning. She hadn’t wanted to allow this to happen but Death hadn’t been willing to allow any other outcome after touching her. Hell, after meeting her really; after all, she was the reason he’d stayed here.

“I need to get up,” Jamie said, pushing up on his chest to look down at him. Death grinned, his hands sliding down to cup her bare ass making her gasp a little, sending satisfaction roaring through him because he could affect her so strongly.

“Fine but no more running away. I won’t put up with it,” Death growled, squeezing the flesh he clung to. Jamie blushed a little and just nodded before she scrambled off the bed to grab her robe off the chair nearby. Death allowed her to get away realizing she needed a little distance to feel safe and he didn’t want to frighten her. He stood to stretch, feeling better than he had in days as he rubbed his hand over his stomach, grinning when he saw her peeking at his body from beneath her lashes. He liked that she was looking at him more than he would admit.

“I’m getting in the shower, feel free to join me in there,” he said. Death knew she wouldn’t because she was already blushing again but he found that he liked teasing her. He headed into the bathroom with an odd sense of rightness filling his chest and a much needed feeling of relaxation in his muscles.

Jamie stood staring at the bathroom door with her arms wrapped around her waist. She’d just allowed Death to make love to her. Of course he wouldn’t think of it that way. No, to him she was just another woman he’d fucked. Jamie grimaced because to her what had happened in that bed was so much more. She looked at the tousled sheets feeling different somehow, like her whole world had changed in the past hour.

They’d had sex and she couldn’t take that back no matter how she tried. She felt another blush stain her cheeks as she looked in the dresser mirror seeing her hair was wild and she had whisker burn along her neck and chest. Grabbing a brush, she set to work getting the tangles from her hair because there was no way in hell she was joining him in the shower.

Jamie felt her chest freeze when she realized something else that she hadn’t thought about. Holy hell, they’d just had unprotected sex and she wasn’t on anything. Diseases weren’t something she had to worry about because there was a shot to get rid of those but pregnancy, that could be an issue. Fuck, what had she been thinking? What would she do if she did get pregnant? No, no, no, she wouldn’t borrow trouble. From now on she’d make sure they used something and the likelihood that she would get pregnant from one time was slim. She was in a good place in her cycle having just come off her period a few days ago so it should be fine.

Jamie again cursed her messed up biology that prevented her from getting the much easier shots for birth control. The one time she’d gotten the shot it had almost killed her and the doctor had told her brother she was in the two percent of the population that was allergic to the shots and to never allow her to take them again.

She could hear the shower running and realized that Death was in there all slick and naked. A rush of desire roared through her and she imagined crawling in behind him and licking the water from his skin as she ran her hands over his hard body. She shook off the thoughts, trying to get her raging libido under control.

She went back to taming her hair and five minutes later when someone knocked at her door she finally had all the tangles managed. She stepped toward the door expecting to find Lissa there but instead pulled it open to find her brother with a grim look on his face.

“Stay in your room and don’t come out. Death’s escaped and he tied up Bam and Rook before he did so last night. I don’t know what he’s up to but when I rolled in an hour ago we began looking for him but still haven’t found him. I don’t want him hurting anyone to escape if he’s not already gone,” Evert muttered, looking grave.

Jamie felt another blush stain her cheeks as she glanced towards the bathroom door. How should she tell her brother that not only did she know where Death was but she knew why he’d escaped and it was her fault for ignoring him. She opened her mouth to explain when Evert’s eyes looked over her head towards the bathroom door and an even darker scowl fell over his face.

“You fucking asshole,” Evert roared, standing up straight and glaring at Death. “How fucking dare you use my sister to get back at me like you would a damned who—”

“Stop right there.” Death’s voice was deadly and shockingly her brother stopped talking to stare at him. Death walked up behind Jamie, his arm wrapping around her waist as he kissed the side of her cheek, which felt hot and she knew it must be red as a beet from the embarrassment she was feeling. He placed his lips over her ear, his teeth nipping the edge a little before he spoke again, sending shivers of desire down her spine.

“Go get a shower, baby. I’ll handle this.” Death turned her and shoved her gently towards the bathroom. Jamie didn’t know what to do because she wasn’t sure leaving the two of them alone when they were both pissed off was a good idea but staying would make her feel even more awkward. Death pointed to the bathroom when she hesitated and with his brows raised he muttered, “Go on, be a good girl.”

Jamie wanted to protest but she felt too uncomfortable being in this room with the two of them after what had happened with Death so she retreated, entering the bathroom hoping like hell the two of them didn’t kill each other.

Chapter Twelve

Death watched Jamie enter the bathroom before turning back to her brother, a dark glower on his face. Blade looked just as grim and his fists were clenched at his sides as he stood on the threshold of Jamie’s bedroom. Death knew what he’d been about to accuse him of and he hadn’t wanted Jamie to get the wrong idea about what had happened between them last night because his focus hadn’t been on getting even. No, the only thought in his head had been taking Jamie repeatedly until she didn’t turn him on so much. Of course now that he’d touched her, he knew that was going to take a lot longer than he’d thought it would.

“You used my sister like a fucking whor—” Blade began but Death interrupted him by grabbing his throat.

“You fucking call her that again and I will fucking kill you.” Death couldn’t stop his feelings on that subject any more than he could fuck Jamie from his system with a few encounters. It was likely to take months or even years for him to become sated on her sweet flesh. Blade ripped himself from Death’s grip and rubbed his neck, glaring at him.

“I wasn’t calling my sister a whore, asshole. I was however saying you used her to get back at me and that’s just fucked up, man,” Blade growled, looking grim.

“That’s not what happened. Leave this alone, Blade, it’s not any of your business. We’re both adults and what happened has nothing to do with you or the clubs.” Death watched Blade shift slightly in the doorway watching him with a frown.

“What the fuck is going on with you and my sister then.”

“It’s not any of your business like I said before. What’s between me and her is just that, between me and her, not you,” Death growled, grabbing his jeans from the floor and jerking them on over the boxers he was wearing.

“You’re telling me to mind my own business when
you
tied up two of my men and then found my sister’s bedroom so you could fuck her?” Blade asked, looking dumbfounded by Death’s words.

“If you want to continue breathing then yeah, that’s what I’m telling you. Don’t make me kill you, it would upset Jamie and that wouldn’t make me very happy.”

Blade watched him for a long moment as if he were trying to gauge his sincerity. Death didn’t care what the other man thought. He wouldn’t allow him to insult his sister by saying the only reason he’d taken her to his bed was because he wanted to get back at Blade. When he’d freed himself from his chains and come looking for her it had nothing to do with Blade and everything to do with Jamie making his cock so hard he could use it as a wooden leg.

“You’re telling me that screwing my sister had nothing to do with getting back at me?” Blade asked, sending hot bursts of fury coursing through him.

“That’s exactly what I’m telling you. What happened here has absolutely nothing to do with you and that’s all I am saying about the subject.” Death could hear the shower stop so he glared at Blade. “This conversation is over. Your sister is getting out of the shower and I don’t want to be discussing this when she comes back out here. I will be staying in this room from now on. Don’t make the mistake of thinking this has anything to do with you again or I will kill you even if she gets angry with me,” Death growled, turning to watch Jamie enter the room in her robe looking freshly washed with her hair wrapped in a towel and her skin pink. Death wished that her brother wasn’t hovering in the doorway and he could take her back to bed and muss all that fresh delightful beauty up again.

Blade grabbed his arm when he would have stepped toward Jamie and jerked him back out of the door. Death was surprised so he wasn’t quick enough to stop Blade from removing him. He would have shoved past the man if his next words hadn’t stopped him.

“I need to discuss some club business with Death. He will be back later for you to watch.” Blade shoved him hard in the direction he wanted him to go without another word to Jamie and shut her door behind him.

“You damned well better not be wanting to discuss me and Jamie or you might end up eating my fist,” Death growled as Blade directed him into what looked like an office on the first floor a few minutes later.

“It’s not,” Blade rumbled as he followed him inside the room. A man was sitting at the desk holding a phone and looked up at them as they entered.

“Well fuck, Blade found him so call off the search, Crook,” he said into the phone before hanging it up and looking at the two of them. “Where the fuck was he?”

“With Jamie.”

“If that fucker hurt our girl I will fucking kill him, club war or no club war,” the man roared, standing up and walking towards Death with the obvious intent to try and follow through with his threat. Not that Death cared because he was sure he could take him if he had too, although he didn’t much like the implication that Jamie belonged to this man in any way. Nope, he didn’t like that one damned bit. In fact it set his teeth on edge and made his fists ball at his sides preparing to beat the knowledge that Jamie was his into the man’s head as he neared. Blade stopped the man, ruining Death’s plan to beat him to a bloody pulp.

“Lake, she’s fine. Leave it.”

“You’re sure our kitten is okay?” Lake asked, turning to Blade who stood beside him.

“She’s not your kitten, motherfucker,” Death growled and jumped towards Lake but Blade stopped him with an unexpectedly hard jerk that slung him back to the other side of the room.

“Stop fighting. We need to discuss business, not the bullshit going on with my sister. As long as she’s okay with what’s happening and you’re not using her, we will all learn to deal. But I’m warning you now. You fucking hurt her and I will beat the holy fuck out of you,” Blade growled, glaring at him as he stood between him and Lake. Death curled his fists at his sides making a mental note to question Jamie about her relationship with Lake because if he’d been her lover Death was going to have to kill the man.

“Agreed,” he growled, glaring at Lake.

“Good. Now you know that I’ve been trying to clean up the club with your unintentional help by feeding you information on the shipments and the compounds they were holed up inside of. We have enough people on the inside now to take them down completely if you’re willing to help.” Blade looked at him for a long moment.

Death didn’t know what Blade was expecting from him but he just stared at him before finally asking, “Wouldn’t it be easier just to change your colors and create a new club?”

“Fuck you, asshole. No, we earned our right to wear these colors and they’re the ones who will be changing, not us,” Lake growled, his glare hot as he tried to shove past Blade, who grabbed him and shoved him back away from Death.

“Sit down, Lake. We need his help, damn it.”

“Yeah, Lake. You need my help,” Death said, smirking widely when the other man growled and plopped angrily down in the seat he’d been shoved towards.

“The colors stay the same. We’re forcing them to change their MC name, not changing ours. I’ve been voted as the president and Lake will be my vice. Our problem is that the last group of assholes screwing up our name is bigger than we are. If we don’t cut a deal for territory and get help with the takedown, we’re likely to end up losing and then you’ll be in the same boat you are now. Death, this could be beneficial for us both. If you help us take them down and force them to change their patch then we both win. You get a trouble-free territory and we get the right to rebuild our club.”  Blade was watching him as he finished his impassioned speech.

“Blade, you are going to have a battle on your hands just to clean up the Headhunter name. Everyone in this territory and the ones surrounding it hate your club and it’s going to take you years to set it right. Just change the name of the club, it’s easier,” Death stated as he sat down on the edge of the couch behind him.

“No, damn it. I’ve been a headhunter since I was sixteen and I refuse to allow anyone to force me to change my colors. We can clean up the name if we’re given enough time. Our club was once revered like yours but then Hacker took over the club ten years ago. At first it was fine but once he started sucking up Juice like it was going out of style it all went downhill and the club imploded. Since he’s been gone we’ve managed to pull more guys who aren’t Juice junkies to our side. Once we’ve taken out the last few of his lieutenants we will have control. Then we weed out the junkies and fix this damned club by rebuilding it from the inside out.” Blade finished his speech by slamming his hand into the desk he was now leaning on, looking grim.

“You’re being stubborn. It’s not worth—” Death began but Blade interrupted him.

“Stop,” Blade roared, holding his hand in the air to stop Death’s words. “You wouldn’t change your name or colors either. You’re not going to convince me to do it either. We’re Headhunters and we stay Headhunters. Now are you going to help us or not?”

Death watched him carefully, running a hand down his face as he contemplated the other man’s words. Blade wasn’t wrong; he was as likely to change his club name as he was to stop breathing but his club had never been kidnappers or child rapists either. He could understand why Blade wanted to keep the name but how was he going to force the rest of the club to change their name even with Death backing him. He rubbed his jaw thinking silently as both Blade and Lake stared at him.

“I don’t see how this plan can work, Blade,” Death finally said, his fingers scratching beneath his ear where his unmanaged beard was itchy. He would have to get a razor and trim this thing because he’d seen the red marks he’d left on Jamie’s soft skin and he didn’t like it.

“You’ve figured out where we are when you were looking for Jamie last night. I know you did so don’t act like you didn’t,” Blade stated. “You know that this place is the perfect defense for us. No one can find it easily and to get in they have only one way to get through and it is guarded twenty-four-seven.”

“About that. How the fuck did you get that window in my room to look like it was looking outside instead of at walls of dirt?” Death asked, because when he’d discovered where he was last night while wandering about trying to find Jamie he’d been a little shocked.

“Ah, yeah that. Well this is an underground compound as you’ve discovered. It was built twenty years ago when the city wanted to expand its borders but they ended up leaving it half-finished. I found it almost fully operational five years ago and we started moving our people here to keep them safe. My sister and Lissa were two of the first women we brought here once I knew I had enough men to guard the entrance. Now we have about twenty or so who live here,” Blade explained.

“That doesn’t tell me how that window looks like it’s got a view, Blade.”

“Oh, right. That’s a fancy camera system that displays a view of the outside to all the screens in here that look like windows. Most of them weren’t hooked up but Tech figured them out and made about half of them do what they were designed to do. Keeps you from remembering that you’re about four hundred feet underground,” Blade explained.

“I guess that’s why Reaper couldn’t find this place. He wasn’t looking for an underground base,” Death grumbled, shaking his head.

“I can make this work, Death, but we need help.”

Death sighed and stared up at the ceiling for a time before looking back at Blade for a long assessing moment. Blade just stared back silently waiting for his answer. Death tried to think of all the angles that could make this plan a cluster fuck and found about a dozen. The first of which was how to tell the good Headhunters from the bad ones when Blade refused to change his colors and he said as much to Blade, who nodded and took two cuts from inside the desk, laying them out.

“This is the original Headhunter cut. It’s the one anyone on our side used to wear,” Blade said, pointing to the one on the right. Death looked at it before staring at the identical one next to it, wondering what the heck was different about them. Standing up, he moved closer but still didn’t see a difference.

“Can you see it?” Lake asked.

“Nope.”

“It’s the skull,” Blade explained and that was when it became clear what was different. Well fuck, if they hadn’t pointed it out he wouldn’t have been able to see it but now that he had it was obvious, which explained how the slight change could work. Damn, that was smart.

“You just made the skull a different color.”

“Yep, it allowed us to know who to trust but the others didn’t notice the difference because they weren’t looking for it.” Blade looked damn proud of himself for the slight modification. Death was a little impressed because the idea was genius. It was subtle enough that even someone who’d seen the cut a thousand times wouldn’t notice and yet it was still obvious that it was different if you were looking for the change.

“How many men do you have wearing this cut?” Death asked, wondering about the numbers they had. If this was only twenty or thirty men he wasn’t sure he’d be able to help Blade despite wanting to protect Jamie.

“A little over a hundred now. Sixty here in the compound and about forty spread out over the territory with a small group holed up in that warehouse you guys found a few months ago,” Blade stated, surprising Death that he knew about them finding one of his compounds. He knew the one because they’d been keeping an eye on the place, a little baffled by the fact that the group of Headhunters there wasn’t doing anything evil nor did they seem to be trapping women for their meat market. Suddenly that made a hell of a lot more sense than it had when they started watching the place.
