Chapter Sixteen

Death pulled on his jeans with quick jerky movements after his shower. His mood was foul, most likely because he was going to be leaving Jamie today and he didn’t want to. He had made love to her again twice this morning, once in the bed and a second time when they were in the shower because touching her one last time had seemed as necessary as breathing. Only now it was time and despite knowing that, he was pissed about it. Whoever was contracted to get his house ready had better fucking work fast because being without Jamie for long wasn’t on his agenda. He wasn’t sure he’d be able to last a day without her at this point.

Jamie was already dressed and had happily said she was going down to get breakfast. He knew she wouldn’t be happy once she realized he was leaving and he debated telling her that he loved her and would be back for her soon. He quickly discarded the idea because knowing her like he did, he knew she’d insist on going back with him now and she wouldn’t be safe if she did. Damn, he should have bought a place and gotten it ready just in case he found someone he wanted to make his old lady. Only he’d never even considered it and now he was royally fucked because he had nowhere that was safe for her. If they hadn’t expanded so much he could have taken her to Reaper’s place when there was trouble but it was too far away. Damn, leaving her was going to nearly kill him.

He grabbed the t-shirt pulling it over his head and exited the bathroom, grabbing his cut off the dresser where he’d laid it yesterday after Blade had returned it. He headed down to the kitchen searching for Jamie to get in a few more kisses before he had to leave her.

Entering, he found several women in the room with Jamie leaning on the counter in the center of them. Death didn’t hesitate, he just moved towards her to pull her back into his arms and planted a long deep kiss on her without missing a beat, pulling back to see the dreamy look in her eyes when he did.

“Damn, now that was a kiss,” one of the women said.

“Shit, I want one,” another called out before she giggled. Death just grinned at Jamie, who was still looking up at him in a daze.

“You bunch of hussies, go find your own man,” Jamie finally said and Death could almost see her shaking off the desire he’d just inspired. Seeing that look in her eyes, he wanted to stay and make love to her again. Only he knew if he didn’t go today he’d never leave her because the need to touch her was only getting stronger.

“What’s going on in here?” Blade asked entering the kitchen.

“We’re preparing for breakfast, that’s all,” one of the women said and Death felt a little pain in the area of his heart because he knew that he was going to have to tell Jamie he was leaving and the sweet smile on her lips would disappear.

“Reaper’s headed this way. I just texted him to bring Sheba to me,” Death said as he turned to Blade, feeling Jamie stiffen a little in his arms.

“I see. You’re leaving us then?” he asked.

“I have to. The vote needs to be taken and we have to see what the Headhunters we’re trying to kill are up to. I’ll let you know how that goes when it’s counted.” Death reluctantly let Jamie go when she stepped back.

“Who’s Sheba?” Jamie asked quietly and Death glanced at her feeling a little smile tug at his lips despite today being the day for their brief separation. She was jealous because she thought Sheba was another woman.

“My bike,” Death said. He didn’t want to ruin what little time they had together by letting her think she had competition for his affections because there wasn’t any. Jamie stared at him for a moment before she smiled a little but it didn’t reach her eyes and Death wanted to rage at the loss he felt when he saw it. Damn, he hated that he had to leave her without telling her he loved her and he’d be back to get her.

“I’ll go tell Hoss to be sure to let them in then,” Blade said, moving towards the door after briefly kissing one of the women on the forehead.

“I guess this is goodbye then,” Jamie said, still smiling but not with the same all over happiness that he’d felt when she’d smiled a second ago. Death felt the loss of that smile like a blow.

“For now.” He couldn’t help clarifying his intentions because he needed her to know he wasn’t leaving her forever, even if he couldn’t tell her he loved her.

“Right. Well it’s been fun.”

“Fun?” Death wanted to grab her and shake her for her flippant answer.

“Sure. Good sex and all but I’m sure we won’t be seeing much of each other from here on out,” Jamie said, still giving him that insincere grin.

“Not for a while,” Death gritted out, unhappy that she seemed to be okay with not seeing him again. Even if he knew she wasn’t serious, it was making his possessiveness roar to life. He wanted to fuck her senseless just to show her that she was his because her responses didn’t sit well with him.

“Let’s not pretend, Death. We both knew what this was and now it’s over. We might cross paths but this little arrangement is done the minute you leave. You’ll be back with your people and I’ll be with mine. We are both likely to find another love—” Death stopped that line of her little speech with a hand over her mouth. If she suggested another man’s hands on her he was going to fuck her right here in front of everyone just to prove she was his.

Even knowing she wasn’t the woman she was pretending to be at the moment, he couldn’t stop his possessive reaction to her words. She wasn’t the type to replace him days or even months after he left but his need for her to be his and his alone didn’t care. It wanted to show her who she belonged to. He jerked her along with him, his hands hard on her wrists but not hard enough to leave bruises. Jamie was so shocked she didn’t fight him. He opened a door a little way down the hall gratified to find the room empty. He pulled her inside and slammed the door behind them.

“What are you doin—” Jamie got out but his body was crowding hers into the corner and his mouth was crashing down on hers in a possessive caress that he knew would make her liquid with desire. His hand buried in her hair holding her where he wanted her for his possession. His other hand was holding her hip as he pressed his hardened cock into her stomach.

“I’m teaching you that you’re
mine
. You better not let another man near my pussy or I will fucking kill him, Jamie. You’re
mine.
Do you understand me?” Death knew he was acting like a caveman as his hand shoved down the front of her jeans and two of his fingers slipped up inside the warm wetness he had claimed.

“You can’t just tell me to wait on you to return, Death,” Jamie panted between kisses, her eyes filled with desire as her hips canted toward his fingers seeking her release.

“This pussy. This one right here.” He tapped her clit as he spoke, making her cry out and throw her head back into the wall as she arched her body towards him. “It’s mine.
Mine
,” he growled and bit a spot on her neck he knew she liked and at the same time he pinched her clit, making her climax in a rush of liquid heat he wished he had time to feel around his cock.

“Jamie, don’t fucking try me on this one. I will kill any man you fuck around with and I won’t let you out of bed for a month just to prove I own you. I’ll be seeing you soon,” Death muttered against her lips as she finally settled. Her scent filling the air was enough to make him crazy because with Reaper on the way he didn’t have time to take her back to bed like he wanted to.

“I can’t quite believe you’re saying this. You expect me to just wait on you to come by every now and then to fuck me? Is that it? Because if so you’re in for a rude awakening, Death.” Jamie was angry now, he could tell by the way she was shoving him away. He didn’t allow it but she certainly tried.

“I know it seems that way but trust me. I’ll explain this when I can but I need you to promise me you will give me a little time. I can’t stand thinking of you being touched by another man. Please just promise you’ll give me some time,” Death begged because he needed her assurance that she wasn’t going to let someone touch her while he was gone.

“Fine, you can have time but not forever, Death. I don’t even understand why you’re being like this. You can’t be this crazy with every woman you have sex with.” Jamie looked confused as she spoke.

“I’m not but with you I am. I’ll be back in a week and I will explain this to you in detail then, I promise,” Death told her, knowing he would be explaining while he fucked her senseless because his cock was already protesting the separation by throbbing uncontrollably.

“Okay. I still don’t get what this is about.”

Chapter Seventeen

Death sat in the corner watching his men let loose, wishing he could be with Jamie tonight instead of sitting at his favorite table in the clubhouse nursing a beer. It had been almost eight days since he’d seen her and he wasn’t too happy. It was likely to be another week before he was able to go to her. Reaper had a guy working on getting the house he’d bought ready for Jamie but it wasn’t going to be finished until two weeks from now.

The war had started after the vote last week when he’d arrived back here with his brothers and it had gone the way he’d hoped. It was good in one way and bad in another. He didn’t have to disappoint Jamie by not helping her brother but he had to be sure she’d be safe when he did bring her into his life. That meant the house had to be fitted with security shutters and a hack proof system which was taking forever to install. Adding Jamie to his life would be easier than he’d thought Reaper had been just as understanding as he’d hoped and Max had been surprisingly okay with the new development. He’d figured of the two men, Max would be the one with the objections to his taking an old lady.

Death watched two men shoving each other as they got ready to arm wrestle both insisting they were going to beat the other, not feeling the normal feelings of detachment. It seemed since he’d met Jamie things were different with him. He no longer felt like he wasn’t a part of anything like he had since Lily had died. It was like she’d reignited a spark that made his heart beat and he couldn’t be upset about it. Perhaps he’d felt this all along and just not let himself see it before meeting her because he wanted to believe he was a cold bastard who didn’t care.

It was odd how loving a woman changed your outlook on life and how many things could become important to you. Now all he needed was Jamie here with him and he’d be a happy man and that seemed like an odd thought to him because he hadn’t been happy in a long time.

“You’re awful pensive tonight,” Max said sitting down next to him, a whiskey in his hand.

“Yeah,” Death answered, not wanting to go into a huge discussion about Jamie not being here fucking with his head.

“Is it the woman?”

“Yeah,” Death muttered.

“I see. You’re going to be like this till she gets here, huh?” Max asked.

“Maybe. I miss her.”

“So go get her. There are enough of us that we can protect her, Death. No reason to be miserable just because you can’t see her. Shit, man, you’ve had enough of that for one lifetime.” Max took another swig of his drink watching him.

“I can’t allow her to be in danger because if something happened to her because I was selfish, I would never forgive myself. It’s two weeks and then I can have her for a lifetime. I can wait that long.” Death looked over to see several sweetbutts headed their way. He wanted to get up and leave because he wasn’t interested in being nice to them tonight but he didn’t want to abandon his men while they were trying to get in one last hoorah before this war really kicked into high gear.

“I think you’re being overly cautious but I get you don’t want her in danger,” Max said, standing up and grabbing the two sweetbutts coming towards them around the waist and pulling them into his sides. “Ladies, let’s leave the brooding old man to his beer and go dance,” he muttered as he guided them away from Death, proving once again there was a reason they were such good friends.

Death watched him glance over his shoulder, a large grin on his face as he did. He lifted his drink to his friend in thanks and went back to brooding. Reaper had called earlier and they’d discussed the next move for them and the Headhunters they were working with. A plan was already in motion to force the color change on the old group of Headhunters and by this time next week war would be inevitable.

Death leaned back in his chair, his mind drifting back to Jamie, and he wondered what she was doing right now. Was she lying in her bed thinking of him or was she hanging out with someone in the club ignoring the fact that she was missing him. He knew it was likely to be the latter of the two. Death wanted to go to her so badly his whole body ached with the need of her but he knew he had to keep her safe. Until he had the house safe enough to bring her back to she would be better off at the underground compound where no one could get to her.

Jamie stared at Doc Nichols in shock, her mind refusing to wrap around the information he’d just delivered. She’d been sick for the past week every morning until around five in the evening so coming to Doc’s office in the compound today she’d already known what was likely going on. She wasn’t an idiot after all and she’d allowed Death to take her repeatedly without a condom. Being pregnant didn’t shock her but being pregnant with twins was a whole other ball game.

Holy hell, what was she going to do?
She knew having a baby without a father was going to be hard but two babies seemed impossible. She would tell Death about them but she had a feeling he wouldn’t have much to say about it. She wasn’t holding her breath that he would want to be a part of her life or the babies’ lives but she would make sure he knew about them. Thinking of two babies and their needs was mind-boggling because she wasn’t sure she could handle one, much less two. Not that she wouldn’t have help because she knew Lissa and Grace would be there, as would her brother and most of the club actually, but it was still daunting to think about being responsible for two tiny infants.

“I think perhaps you should see the specialist I know who has a clinic over in Bracken about thirty minutes from here. He’s got a lot of experience with multiple births and I would feel better if he looked you over a few times just to be sure everything was progressing normally,” Doc Nichols was saying as he put his scanner away and looked at her again. Jamie nodded because she would follow his orders in order to keep her babies safe.

“Okay. Just give me his information and I will go visit his clinic.”

“I have to ask, my dear, are you telling your brother or should I not mention this to him.”

“I’ll tell him,” Jamie said, wishing she didn’t have to because she knew the lecture he would give her about using the medi-condoms and how irresponsible it was of her not to. Damn, she really wished she could avoid that conversation. Letting out a loud sigh she stood up, trying not to worry about what Death or her brother would say when she told them. Death was supposed to be here tomorrow according to her brother and she would have to tell him about what was going on.

“I’ll give you a few days to talk to him then. Congratulations, my dear,” Doc said.

“Thanks,” Jamie said, meaning it because despite her shock at his announcement of twins, she was happy that she would get to keep a little part of Death with her. She just wondered what his reaction would be. Would he want her to get rid of the babies? She hoped not because it would make her sad to know he was that kind of man.

Death walked into the compound at four in the morning, his body aching from the long ride and his mind on one thing. He nodded to Crook as he walked past the guard post with Blade on his heels. He knew that Blade thought he was headed to his office but Death wasn’t going to be able to iron out anything until he had seen Jamie. He was literally aching to touch her and hold her and kiss her. Fuck, he just needed to see her. Death walked down the hall past Blade’s office without a word.

“Death, the office is here,” Blade called out from behind him.

“I will be back in an hour,” Death told him, still walking away headed to Jamie’s room because that’s where he wanted to be and no one was stopping him now that he was this close without killing him.

“Where the hell are you going?” Blade demanded but Death ignored him and kept walking towards her room. He wasn’t going to deal with any bullshit until after he’d seen her.

Opening the door to her room a few minutes later, he watched her shift on the bed in the semi-darkened room. Something in his chest shifted and he felt a part of him settle as he moved to the bed. He climbed in, his arms wrapping around her from behind. Death didn’t know what he expected but it wasn’t what he got, that was for sure. Suddenly she was wildly hitting him and screaming. Her little fist connected hard with his eye and he roared because it hurt like the dickens.

“Damn it, Jamie, calm down. It’s me,” Death growled when he finally grabbed her flailing hands and pinned them to the bed.

“Death?” Jamie asked softly when she’d finally calmed down.

“Yes,” Death muttered, exasperation evident in his tone. He almost laughed at the throbbing pain in his right eye but he wasn’t really in the mood. He should have thought this through and not scared her to death by crawling into bed with her but he’d just needed to hold her. He was looking down at her now with a sense of awe he’d never felt in his life. It was so damned good to see her loveliness displayed in the soft nightlight she had in the room. His body was already starting to push him to take her because it had been two weeks since he’d been this close to her.

“Why—wait, what are you doing in my bed?” she asked.

Death didn’t like that question one damned bit because he belonged here and that was the only outcome he would ever accept when it came to her. Despite not being able to take her with him again tonight when he rode out of here, this woman belonged to him and he didn’t like any sort of suggestion to the contrary.

“Because I belong here,” he growled and took her lips with his, crushing her into his arms as his desires took over. His tongue thrust inside her mouth and she cried out in pleasure. His hands slid down her sides to remove her shirt before moving to cup her bare breasts. God, he’d missed her so damned much. He moved down to her breasts, his cock tingling, and licked around one nipple before sucking it into his mouth.

She arched into him and cried out his name and Death was gratified that he could still elicit this response from her. He noticed that her breasts seemed heavier than they had been and she was much more responsive to his slight touch. Something about that was nagging at the back of his mind but he pushed it away not wanting anything to spoil what little time they had together before he’d need to leave her again.

“I missed you, baby,” he muttered around her hard nipple before he scraped it with his teeth and sucked on it again. Jamie’s hand buried in his hair and she moaned again louder as she ran her other hand over his spine beneath his shirt, making him wish he’d taken it off before getting into bed with her. Death ripped his cut off throwing it haphazardly towards the nightstand before tearing off his shirt and throwing it behind him on the floor. He then pressed his hard chest into hers feeling the tips of her breasts rub along his already heated flesh like little hot irons. He couldn’t contain the groan that escaped him when he felt her skin on his finally after two weeks of not being with her.

His brain literally shut down from the pleasure. All he could do was feel the way her body arched into his, her breath sighing across his shoulder as she nipped at him with her little teeth, her hands rubbing along his skin and the gasps she released as he touched her needing more, almost unable to bear the need for her that consumed him. Death had never been so desperate for a woman in his life and he didn’t know if he’d survive if he wasn’t inside her soon. That thought filling his head, he shucked his pants and ripped off her panties, his cock pressing against her entrance. He growled as his body slipped into hers, almost coming immediately because it felt that damned good.

Jamie couldn’t stop the joy that burst through her when Death began making love to her. It was like she was unable to find the little bit of pride and anger she’d thought she’d be able to hold onto when she saw him. It slipped through her fingers right about the time he kissed her because after that she was nothing but an instrument that he played with perfect precision. His movements inside her were gentle, almost reverent, and she felt her breath sigh across his skin. He groaned and buried his face into her hair, his hands gripping her hips hard.
