It was simple for Jak and Ryan to prepare a wag that could seat six and take a stock of supplies. Fuel and spare cans came from the other wags housed in the mechanic’s shed, which were then disabled.

The noise of the wag as it started, then moved out into the ville and onto the blacktop, was preternaturally loud. If not for the results of the celebrations, they would have been intercepted.

As it was, they were able to put space between themselves and Jenningsville before the sun began to rise. They traveled in silence, knowing that they were leaving behind them LaGuerre and his grand plans, a ville that accepted them as saviors, after a tremulous beginning, and the chilled ghost of a past.

No one spoke for some time. Eventually, Mildred took it upon herself to break the silence.

“So…you going to tell us about it, John?” J.B. sighed and took a deep breath. Where to begin?

“It was all a long, long time ago….”
