"What, love?" My heart raced hard in my chest.

"
I'm sorry."

"
For what?" I leaned and kissed her lips softly, not wanting anything to ruin what I'd just given her.

"
For…" she looked off to the left, her chin trembling, "…losing the game."

"
Fuck, love, I slipped, it wasn't your fault. It was mine."

"
I know, and I freaked."

"
You
freaked? Love if you had been in my head. I nearly had a heart attack."

She raised her brows then snickered.
"You did?"

"
Fuck, yes! I was so glad you quit. I'm not kidding."

She stared at me until her face became a severe mask of nothing I could identify or justify
her having in that second. What had I said? She grabbed my face and pulled me to her mouth and wrapped her legs around my waist. "Make love to me. Please."

Her words
with the desperate way she moved to them knocked me on my ass. I fumbled like a teenager to comply and the second I found her entrance, she jerked my hips and buried me deep inside her.

The cry she gave pierced my fucking heart, Jesus Christ. I kissed her,
if you could call devouring another person that. But I'd never been so hungry to have every part of somebody the way I wanted her. And the way she seemed to return the feeling, holy fuck, it undid me. The next thing I knew she flipped us, putting her on top. I held her waist and watched her, forced her tight to my groin and rolled my hips, hitting her core with the head of my cock. Fuck, yes, she liked that. Seeing her on me like that brought my orgasm like a runaway comet, there was no fucking denying it. I kept her tight to me, grinding the head of my cock deep with hard jerks until my body locked up with ecstasy, blinding fucking ecstasy. I bowed up off the bed and she sealed her chest to mine, her cries in my mouth as I wrapped my arms around her.

Fuck, she
'd just done something to me. I didn't know what it was, I only knew I was never going to be the same again.

Chapter Four

I sat across from Tara the next day, breathing carefully through the
feelings that had me rigid. I was officially mind-blown. She was doing that shit again. Not looking at me. Treating me like a stranger. A fuck buddy. I was left with just
wow
at how that infuriated me.

How could somebody endure what we fucking shared and not be affected? The idea that it didn
't mean as much to her was more than I could stand, and fuck I wanted to walk out of there and never turn back. And yet the enigma begged to be unraveled, begged to be confounded right the fuck back. She was wrong about whatever was going on in her head. Dead wrong. And I was torn between proving it and getting as far away from her as I could.

D
ay two, challenge one. God, it better not be anything sexual because I don't think I could get a fucking hard-on to save my life. A reminder of what she'd done to me.

The
only other person who had this kind of power over me was my father. My fucking father. And to be forced to feel pain by anyone was riling a very bad mojo in me. I'd vowed to never let anybody rape my emotions like that bastard had. No-fucking-body.

"
Soooo, what do you think we're going to be doing?" It was the third time she'd asked.

I merely raised my brows at her
, not wanting to answer.

She clasped her hands together.
"Are you nervous?"

"
Should I be?" She was acting clueless. Like she didn't know what she was doing.

"
I would think it would be a natural reaction," she said nonchalantly.

"
You do, huh? You learned that in Psych 101? Dr. Tara?"

She rolled her eyes then leveled a gaze on me.

Not seeing any sign of the woman she'd shown me the night before crushed me. I couldn't keep it from showing.

"
What is your problem? You're being an ass."

"
Me?"

"
Yes, you."

"
I've
been being an ass." A disbelieving laugh escaped.

"
That's what I said."

"
And you?"

"
What
about
me? Jesus, what do you want? You want me to swoon at your feet?" She gave that snort, like it was silly. "We're adults. Not teenagers."

I shook my head and lo
wered my gaze. "Really."

"
Yes. Really. I don't know what you expect from me, but this is who I am. I'm not this…flowery person, this fountain of bubbly good feelings overflowing all over the place."

"
Yeah, because that's exactly what I want from you." So fucking ridiculous.

The door opened and
Tara's favorite blonde female entered and sat in the third chair at the table. Just what I needed, more tension in the air. She'd taken great pains to inform me her name was Danielle the day before, like I gave a shit.

Today,
she held a clip board. "And how is America's favorite couple?" She handed us each a sheet of paper and pen with that bright sun-shiny smile she always wore when Tara and I were at odds.

It all a
dded to the
played the fool
vibe that was slowly rubbing me raw. Tara and I mumbled our greeting and she went on with her fakery. "Welcome to day two of battle. We'll be starting out with a little test of knowledge. About each other, of course. Nothing to it."

I laughed and slapped my palm on the table then winked at
Tara. "Nothing to it, love."

She gave me a sour look and
Danielle shuffled through her papers. "Great! Let's get to it." She removed her jacket, displaying a sheer white blouse that clearly exposed her red bra beneath. She'd had quite the boob job and what didn't show through the fabric showed through the gaping spaces between the too few buttons struggling to hold it shut.

I glanced at Tara and found her glaring at me. Oh? She wanted to be jealous? Wasn
't she just the sweetest fucking contradiction? No doubt she thought I preferred my women leggy, big boobed, blonde, and dressed to kill. I couldn't possibly like dark-haired, hazel-eyed women with near boyish features and a slim body. And fuck if just thinking about it didn't get me hard.

Danielle clasped her elegant fingers together, red nails glistening.
"You were given a written test during audition as you recall, and we'll be using some of those to conduct this phase of the challenge. Ready?"

Again Tara and I mumbled our consent.

"I'll start with Tara." Danielle turned in her seat and faced her. "We asked Lucian what was his biggest kink. Tell us what you think his answer was."

"
Oh." Tara slipped on her aloof mask and looked at me. I gave her a quirked brow. "I'd have to go with…" she pursed her lips, then turned to the woman. "The…butt. Of a woman." She nodded and nodded and nodded. "That's my final answer."

It was damn funny to see her speak casually about something I
knew had her cringing inside. "I need… you to be a little more specific." Danielle winced a bit as though she knew the same thing I did.

Tara sat back with a sigh then immediately forward again, hands beneath the table, no doubt gripping something to keep from biting her nails. She kept her gaze on the table.
"He likes… I mean I'd guess he likes… to um. Use his…" She scratched her cheek roughly and looked away. "Tongue."

"
Ohhhh." Danielle sounded eager. "He likes that tongue action in the ass. Mmm. Nice. Point for Tara." She made sure to load those final words with envy.

"
Yay for me." Tara pumped her fist in pathetic enthusiasm.

"
Lucian, your turn." She faced me now, using her tits for balance, it seemed. "We asked Tara the same thing. What do you suppose her answer was?"

I looked at Tara who stared at the table doing this
repetitive thing with her lips. Pursing them then stretching them into a humorless smile. The equivalent of pen clicking or opening and closing a zippo lighter. What the fuck would she have put? Not the truth. Like she'd even know that. Kink to her wouldn't necessarily mean sexual either. Definitely not. Which made the possibilities endless. I shrugged, going for the most plausible. "I'd imagine her saying…" I looked at Tara who still did that thing with her lips. "Working puzzles."

Danielle
's laughter tinkled out and Tara shook her head, mumbling.

"
Nope. Sorry Lucian. Are you ready for this?"

"
Do you have to?" Tara asked.

"
Yes. She does." I looked at Danielle. "Tell me."

"
Her kink…" she smiled while Tara muttered how ridiculous this was, "is reading… the
obituaries.
"

I snapped my gaze to Tara just as she rolled her eyes up.
"Can we move on now?"

"
What do you enjoy about reading the obituaries?" Good God, was she secretly a sadist?

"
There's plenty to like about it."

My brows shot up.
"Really? So death excites you. This is news."

"
No death doesn't
excite
me." Like I were sick to suggest it. "I happen to like the-the…" she rolled her hand in the air, "…consistency of death. You can always count on it." She finalized the insane confession with her little snorted laugh.

I stared at her,
speechless. Something tugged inside me as I watched her pretend, watched her hide behind those walls. The idea that she'd like something so… odd, fucked with me. I mean somehow, in some impossible way, I think I fell harder in love with her. To think that such a strange thing would bring her comfort made me sad. What had happened to her?

"
Were we supposed to do something with this?" Tara held up the blank paper. "Or is it just for pretend. Like this whole little Dom Wars game."

Danielle gave a
derogative cackle, sounding tickled to pieces. "Patience, darling. Now, next question. We'll let Tara go first since she won. Okay, Tara. We asked Lucian what was his greatest childhood fear. What do you think he said?"

"
Hmmm." Tara tapped her pen on the table then suddenly regarded me like I were one of those pictures within a picture. "I'd saaaaaay… probably, his father."

"
Awwww, no." Danielle gave a pseudo-sympathetic smile. "It was water."

"
Really." Tara sounded extremely curious. And she'd stay that way. No more sharing secrets with her just to earn her cold distant shoulder.

"
Your turn Lucian. What do you think was Tara's greatest childhood fear?"

I shrugged, still bothered with
the answer she'd just given. She was partially right. I'd been fucking terrified of the old man when I was a kid. That made Tara a very perceptive little brat. "Boys?"

Tara
threw her hands up and flopped back into the chair. "Why don't we just hand over the game? Boys? Seriously?"

"
It's plausible."

"
How?"

I looked at Danielle.
"So what's her answer?"

Danielle gave a burst of
ridiculing laughter, all in good sport no doubt. "She was scared…of small spaces."

At Tara
's obvious embarrassment, I decided I could wait until later to ask. "What's next?"

"
Okay, question number three. Lucian, you first. If Tara could be any superhero, who would it be?"

Judging by the grin Danielle wore,
this would be another priceless answer. Why couldn't Tara have just lied and given normal shit answers? I stroked the bridge of my nose, trying to think of something I'd never guess. "Pink… Power ranger?"

"
What?" Tara cried incredulous. "Superhero!" She tossed her pen on the table in disgust.

"
Not quite, Lucian." Danielle had to work to keep her words coherent through laughter. "Try… Santa Claus."

I choked on shock.
"Santa Claus?"

Tara pointed at me.
"He is very much a superhero. I have every right to think he's a super hero. Every year he brings smiles to kid's eyes."

I was a little worried now.
"So you believe in Santa Claus?"

"
Oh my God, are you serious?" She looked at Danielle. "Did the answer to the question necessitate my belief in it?"

Danielle
shook her head with a tight smile and I let out a sigh of relief. "You're right," I said. "My mistake."

"
Damn right, I'm right," she mumbled. "And for him?" She pointed at me. "Aqua-man."

Danielle gasped.
"Correct!"

I stared at
Tara, floored that she'd deduced that one. "And how'd you guess that?"

She
gave a perfectly obnoxious smile. "A lucky guess. But your personality screams it. Overcoming obstacles is your middle name and being Aqua-man makes sense given your… childhood fear."

I had to admit it.
"Impressive."

"
Okay, so, Tara is in the lead, two to zero. Next question, Tara. We asked Lucian what he wanted to be when he grew up. What do you think he said?"

"
Ummm. I don't guess Dom was yet part of his childhood vocabulary until much later, soooo, I'll go with… Proctologist."

I bu
rst out laughing at the most unanticipated and priceless answer. She'd thrown her points just to get that jab. "Fuck, that was good."

"
Good, but wrong." Danielle frowned. "He wanted to be a master builder."

Tara looked at
me in wide-eyed shock that I couldn't tell was genuine or not. "Master Builder. Impressive Mr. Bane."

"
Thank you… Doctor?"

"
Is that your guess for me?"

I thought about it.
"Yes. It is."

She smiled and shook her head.
"Wrong again, baby. I wanted to be an astronaut."

"
Really?" Okay, that was actually pretty cool. "I'm amazed."

"
I'm so sure you are." She looked at Danielle. "Is it time for us to draw some BDSM pictures?" She held up the paper and I bit my lower lip at how funny she was.

"
One more question. Tara, we asked Lucian if he could meet anybody in the world, who would it be? Dead or alive. Fictional or non."

"
I don't know. Spiderman?"

Danielle
gave a fake dramatic gasp. "Right!" She looked at me. "She's good!"

I stared at Tara, wondering who in the world she
'd want to meet. Probably… "Neil Armstrong."
