The

wrapped

paradise,

notice.

Kerrigan
looked
down
at
her
one

willing

leave.

he
wanted

her

love

the
night.
He’d

keep
him occupied, tr

Thalius
was up

how he
was involved with Jager. In
the back
of
his

ind,
Threeo’s
voice
echoed.

Kerrigan
headed

the

Ignoring
Threeo,
who
ro

sted
on
the
mantel,
Kerrigan
pondered
over
the
journals
crowding the
den.
A
ged
leather
and
d
u
st
wafted
from
the
pages,
along
with
ru
m
ors
too
cra
z
y
to
be believed.
The
journals
were
old.
So
m
e
were
said
to
be
works
of
fiction
because
th
e
y
w
ere
so bizarre,
written
by
Enchanters
who
had
been
considered
cra
z
y
.
Then
there
were
other,
elder Enchanters
who
ardent
l
y
believed
the
stories
to
be
true. Stories
of foreigners
coming
to Enchan
t
m
e
nt.
He had
never
put
too
m
uch
truth
to
them
even though
apparent
l
y
,
his
biological
parents
had
been
foreigners.
The
Council
denied
the
stories, and
Kerrigan had
chosen
to
stand by
their
view.

Things
were
different
now.
He
hoped
he
could
find
a
way
to
help
M
eeka
return
s
afe
l
y
back ho
m
e. Perhaps back ho
m
e, her p
o
wers would
disappear and
she
could go
back
to her
nor
m
al
life. She
w
ouldn’t
be
in
danger
if
her
p
o
wers
went
awa
y
. Be

n
d
this
world,
Thalius wouldn’t
be
able to
harm
her.
In
her
world,
she
would
be
whole—be
safe—but
not
safer
than
when
she
was
with hi
m
.

The
book
he
opened
was
one
he’d
never
looked
at
before.
It
w
a
s
bound
b
y
leather,
and bu
r
sting
with
ma
n
y
tattered
and
torn
pages.
H

s
favorite
chair
welc
o
m
ed
him
as
he
prepared
to find
a
n
y
t

i
ng
he
could.

The
book
spoke
about
how
Enchanters
were
all
treated
like
slaves,
subservient
to
the Cou
n
selors.
Horrible cr
i
m
es
took place.
Then
he
ca
m
e
to
the
part in
the
j
ournal
w
hen
th
e
y spoke of
leaving
the
s
o-called
perfect
w
orld.
The
page
w
a
s
filled
with
scrawling
script
as
if
the
author had
been
in
a
hur
r
y
.
So
m
e
Enchanters
had
tried
to
swim
to
the
surface
of
Upper
World,
but
the handwriting
w
a
s
so
bad,
Kerrigan
couldn’t
m
ake
out
the
words
describing
their
fate.
He
quick
l
y flipped
through
the
j
o
urnal,
hoping
for
a
clue
to
the
unreadable
portion,
only
to
discover
a
page and
been
re
m
oved.
