Mud

“Help a brother out.”

It was all he had to say. I knew what he was asking and how much he wanted it—bad. The desperation in his voice echoed through me, sounding like my own. It wasn’t just because he was my twin. Goose and I were as close as any brothers could be. We shared everything, and I mean everything—our bikes, drugs, pussy. Looking at him was like looking in the goddamned mirror. I couldn’t say no to myself, but I had to say no.

“It’s important to me.” Goose looked out at the water.

It being a dark night, all we could see was the back porch light’s broken reflection waving back and forth. Even so, we stared at the black pool sipping our beers. The pond held a lifetime of memories for us. Mom and Dad’s cabin was our safe place. Since they’d died, all my brother and I had was each other, and no one knew about this place but us. I planned to keep it that way.

Goose and I’d made it through being orphaned teens without being split up. The one time we were separated into different foster homes, we ran away and came here. And now he wanted to go his separate way—a way I couldn’t follow him.

“Fuck man, you really going to put me through this? For a hardbelly!”

“She’s not just another whore. She’s made bad choices. Just like us.”

I slammed down my bottle, nearly breaking the table. “I like my choices.” The Gods were there for us when everyone wanted us in the system. We’d had other family, aunts and uncles but no one wanted us teenage boys. The Gods wanted us. I promised my life to their club.

Goose and I’d only become members a couple of years ago but before that, the Asphalt Gods’ MC let us work under the table. Two scrappy, starving orphans became men under the arm of the club, and we vowed our allegiance as soon as we were legal, becoming proper prospects and then full-fledged members.

“And she
IS
a whore. Luscious,” I shook my head at her name as I said it, “she isn’t worth it, brother.”

“Her name’s Felisha, and she’s done with club life. I am too.” The tone in Goose’s voice let me know he was serious.

“You can’t bring her here. We have a pact, remember?” I was telling him no. I wouldn’t tell my twin he couldn’t leave the Gods, he was a man after all, but he couldn’t bring his whore here. Nevertheless, if push came to shove, they’d need a place to hide. Amongst other depraved assets, Luscious had loose lips. She was the one who’d tipped me off to their plan to leave in the first place.

“We’ll go to her aunt’s house,” Goose announced like he knew my thoughts before I said them.

“Where’s that?”

“Out by Cooter Lane, trailer park. Take a left by the sewer plant and keep on going ‘bout five miles.”

I nodded, knowing how to get there. Despite it all, I was glad he still trusted me enough to tell me where he’d be.

“We’ll lay low for a while until the Gods quit looking. Then we’ll go north.”

I didn’t like his plan, laying low meant he was a sitting duck. He should run now, but I wouldn’t tell him what to do. He wouldn’t listen anyway. “Well, come on. We still have places to be.”

Back at the clubhouse, Rosa was waiting for my brother. It was like she could smell his betrayal. Not dressed to ride, not her motorcycle anyway—she was looking for another type of ride. She wore a black leather skirt, barely covering her round ass and a skintight red top that showed a heaping helping of creamy white cleavage. A man couldn’t help but adjust himself. As I did, her eyes followed my hand. She liked what she saw.

Rosa was our treasurer and our president, Mad Dog’s daughter, a fully patched girl, the only one at our Alabama chapter of the Gods. And it was just Rosa. She didn’t have a different road name because she’d grown up in the club. Everyone always just called her Rosa, mainly because she insisted. She’d declared every nickname given to her an unbearable insult, and she’d always gotten her way. A beauty with dark, curly hair and contrasting creamy skin, she was tall but curvy too, just like a woman should be. A badass to boot, her sexy level went up tenfold when she was riding her hog, shooting, spitting or beating the shit out of someone.

The sun used to rise and fall on our little chapter of the Gods based on Rosa’s moods. But since her mother passed, Mad Dog could care less about his whiny daughter. Maybe he was forcing her to grow up like he should or maybe the fact that Rosa was a carbon copy of her late mother caused him to distance himself. Whatever the reason, her having to man up was a good thing for us all. It was too bad Rosa already decided she wanted my brother.

Knowing Mad Dog wouldn’t make it happen anymore, she’d gone nuts on Goose. She wouldn’t take no for an answer, so my brother strung her along. Goose hadn’t had the balls to refuse her completely, not because he was scared of her, but because he was scared of what she might do to Luscious. When Rosa thought my brother was seeing Blossom, another hangaround whore, she loaned her out to Will West, the drug dealer we run protection for—something we aren’t supposed to do with our women. West gave Blossom to his crew. Blossom’s horror stories put fear in Luscious who in turn convinced my brother to leave the Gods.

I wanted to hate Rosa for putting the wheels of my brother’s departure in motion, but I had a fucking soft spot for her. Well, maybe you could call it a hard spot since my dick got hard anytime she was near.

She batted her big brown eyes at me as she took my brothers arm. “Come on boys. Just like old times tonight.”

Fuck, it was an invitation to do what we used to do. Before she’d gotten so serious about Goose, Rosa wanted us both, at least physically. I wouldn’t say no. I hadn’t been seeing anyone since I’d left my ex, Zoey, because she wouldn’t live the biker life. Uppity college brat wanted me to get my GED and attend Alabama State with her. I didn’t plan on ever leaving the Gods, certainly not for a woman.

Goose seemed willing to submit to Rosa’s whim, following her up the stairs. I checked over my shoulder. Mad Dog was passed out, his greying head resting on the bar, nothing unusual since his wife passed. If he only knew what we were about to do to his daughter. Shit, he’d hang us and use us for target practice.

I sidled up the stairs, two at a time and opened the door to the club’s biggest room to find my brother and Rosa half-naked, making out. It was like watching a chic flick, passionate as fuck. There’d be none of that for me. I was here as an accessory. That’s how I liked it. However, as I pulled Rosa’s thick curly hair back, my mouth hovering over hers, something changed, and I wondered for the first time what would happen if I did kiss her like Goose did. Would she want me too?

The thought vanished as she gripped my erection through my jeans. I said the usual, “Get down on your hands and knees, bitch.”

Rosa faked being submissive, falling on the floor like a wilting flower. My brother was doing her doggie style in no time, tugging her nipple rings. Naked, she was just as badass, having our three-piece patch tattooed on her back and rebel flags up her sides. I unzipped my pants and got on my knees to guide my cock to Rosa’s open mouth. God, she gave good head. I pumped into her mouth, a warm, wet suctioning cavern. Her tongue ring felt electric, sliding up and down and all around my dick. She’d swallow, but I drew out when I was about to come. As my brother yanked her head back by her hair, still pounding into her, calling her every name in the book, I nutted all over her face.

Why my brother wanted to leave the Gods for one whore when he had one right here, I’d never understand. I’d had enough even though Rosa asked me to stay. “Just like old times,” she repeated her line from earlier, offering me a go after Goose was done with her.

“Things change, Rosa,” I said as I zipped up. I knew that after tomorrow, my life would change. I’d probably never see my brother Goose again. The club would hunt him down. If he lived, it’d be far away from here.

Goose was gone the next morning, but it took the club a couple of weeks to catch on because I’d covered for him. Sitting in church, over a month later, I tried to act like I still didn’t know where he was.

“We just want to talk some sense into the boy,” Mad Dog assured me. He was a big bear of a man with a grey handle bar mustache who you’d mistake as sweet if you didn’t know him. I knew ‘em and if my twin didn’t change his mind and come back soon with his tail between his legs, my president would put a bounty on him. Goose knew this too. I hoped he’d lay low long enough.

“You think he’d tell me where he was going?” I huffed.

“I thought you two shared everything.” Rosa didn’t believe me.

“We used to, but things change.” I stared her down, finally feeling anger towards her.

Rosa returned my stare, her eyes narrowing as she tried to read into my anger. She lifted her chin and suggested, “Vote for a bounty.”

Mad Dog and the others agreed. When their eyes fell to me, I silently nodded. Even worse, I heard Mad Dog tell Fat Willi to, “Call Pole Cat,” as we were clearing out.

Fuck—My brother was as good as dead.

Later that night, I grabbed Rosa’s arm and jerked her to me. “Why the fuck?”

“So you’ll tell me where he is. I can talk to him. He’ll come back.”

“I don’t know where he is.”

She looked like she could see right through my lies. “Then he’ll get what he deserves, for leaving.”

“He doesn’t want you.”

“I don’t want him anyhow.” She walked off, and I punched the wall where she’d stood. Fucking bitch! I couldn’t tell her where he was. If he wouldn’t come back, who knew what she’d let the club do to him.

Thankfully, another week passed and no one had found Goose, not even our murderous enforcer Pole Cat. Having a feeling I was being watched, I hadn’t left our little community once. I’d filled my time doing odd jobs around the property. Mad Dog was getting suspicious and sent Raunchy to my trailer to watch me, so the fucker was always lingering outside. Today he knocked, saying he was sent to fetch me. I told him I’d be a minute and shut my door in his face. Raunchy had been a prospect longer than anyone in the history of the club because was he just too weird to patch.

Convinced everyone finally figured out Goose had run away with Luscious, since she was unaccounted for too, I made my way to the clubhouse. I expected to get my ass handed to me or worse. Unexpectedly, Raunchy stopped me from storming into my president’s office. He told me Mad Dog was talking to Scar, of all people. Goose was fucked. Pole Cat hadn’t gotten to my brother, but if Scar was here, the General truly meant business. Scar was the General’s son, adopted or not. He pretty much did whatever and the hell he wanted, and we all had to obey him. They’d pretend it wasn’t so, but even Mad Dog had to bend to Scar’s will.

I sat at the bar and told Raunchy to pour me a whiskey. He did, like the bitch he was. I drank to my brother and demanded another right away. I didn’t even notice the beautiful blonde at my elbow until Raunchy asked if she wanted anything.

“You wouldn’t happen to know how to make a Cosmopolitan would you?” she asked like he probably didn’t.

“A cosmo what?”

“I’ll make it,” I told Raunchy and shooed him away.

“Thanks—Mud.”

I guess she read my patch. “No use having a stocked bar if you can’t make a drink. That’s why he’ll never earn his patch.” I winked at her out of habit, not that seeing fresh blood around didn’t make me happy. A new girl meant all kinds of possibilities. Not that I could properly think about that sort of thing with Goose’s fate hanging over me.

“Anne Marie,” she introduced herself before she took a sip. “You alright?”

Since no one else was around, I told her. “No, I reckon I’m not, but what about you? What brings you here?”

“Oh, I’m with Scar.”

I frowned, reminded he was here. “You his?”

“Something like that.”

Shit, that made her off limits. “What’s he doing in these parts?”

Her face froze like she wouldn’t tell me, but then she came clean, “Heelz and Mutherfukers are after us.”

I breathed a sigh of relief before I worried for other reasons. At least Scar wasn’t here for Goose. However, the other MCs coming after one of my brothers meant they were after us all.

“So, what’s eating you?” Anne asked as she took another sip of her drink, her pinkie out.

I returned to my barstool and my own glass. “My brother is as good as dead.”

“You think Scar will kill him?” She’d read more in my sentence than I expected.

“Don’t know, maybe, maybe not.”

“Your brother, brother or just your brother?”

“My twin.”

She finished her drink before studying my face. “Is your brother a bad man?”

“No, he’s just stupid.” It was stupid of him to leave.

“He hurt someone?”

“No. Only himself, really.”

“Well, I don’t think Scar will kill him,” she declared so confidently, not knowing the whole situation.

I wasn’t too sure of that. Even so, her eyes were intent, and my skin tingled with hope.

Scar wasn’t all too much older than me, but he was still ancient—a legend to the club. Ruthless, he rode Nomad, meaning alone. He rode alone and took care of more shit than my brothers could in a pack. I was a skinny fourteen-year-old when I’d first met him when he’d just turned eighteen. I was bigger than him now, but I didn’t feel like it at the moment.
