“Close the door, mate,” the man growled as Zaer watched him unbuckling the belt at his waist. She shot him a glare. He returned an even more wicked grin.

“You must be something special, dressed like that?”

Zaer glanced down at the opulence of the white robe she was wearing and wished the woman had picked up something more plain.

“She is! She is the leader of this planet, put in place by the high council and you’ll…”

“Shut up!” the man snapped, pointing a finger at the woman cowering behind Zaer. Zaer closed her eyes. How could someone so stupid have gained a seat on the council?

“Leader? High council?” the man asked, looking back and forth between the two of them before his lips curled back into their smile. “In that case I’ll enjoy this even more.”

Zaer’s head yanked back as the man’s fingers curled in her hair. He spun her around furiously, then bent her over the breeding bed she’d been on just minutes before. She was now facing the horrified woman, who was staring at her from the corner, her wide eyes full of fear. Zaer felt the man lift her robe until her ass was exposed to him. She felt his gloved hand slide slowly over the curve of it and she closed her eyes and exhaled slightly, knowing what would come next.

“I’ve been waiting for this a long time,” the man growled from behind her. “You don’t know this, but where we’re from, there aren’t enough women to go around. A simple soldier like me has to wait until he becomes an officer before he gets the chance to touch a woman this way.”

The man pushed his hand up between Zaer’s legs and brought his fingers to rest on the still moist folds of her pussy. Despite herself, Zaer felt an unbidden thrill run through her.

Behind her, the door hissed open.

“What’s happening here?”

Zaer’s eyes went wide at the familiar sound of the low voice behind them.

“Get on, mate,” the man holding her said, without turning around. “Just trying to get a little taste is all. Now fuck off.”

Silence. Then Zaer heard the door slide shut. The hope that had filled her at the sound of the other man’s voice faded and she resigned herself to her fate.

“Turn around, soldier.”

His voice was closer now and Zaer writhed against the hands that held her down as she felt them loosen their grip.

“What the fuck, mate?”

Zaer turned around just in time to see the shape of Dar Taal’s hulking, naked frame step toward the man who’d pinned her down.

“Who the fuck are you?” the man asked, facing the giant man and staring him in the eye.

“You don’t recognize a major when you see one?” Dar Taal rumbled, turning his head slightly as he held the man’s gaze.

Zaer wished she could have seen the soldier’s face, but his body spoke just as eloquently. The way his shoulders sagged, the way he slouched forward, the way his head tilted down, all at the realization of who it was giving him orders, made a strange pride swell in Zaer.

“Sir,” the man who’d held her whispered, his voice sounding like a child who was about to be disciplined.

“Return to your unit, soldier. There was to be none of this. Report back to me once we’ve secured this building.”

“Yes, sir,” the man said as he slunk past the shape of the giant Dar and scuttled back into the hall with his friend.

Zaer straightened and tried to compose herself as Dar’s gaze roamed up and down her body.

“Please accept my apologies for my men,” he said, glancing from her to the woman behind her, still cowering in the corner. “It was made clear that there would be no contact. He will be disciplined.”

Zaer looked back to see the woman who’d sentenced her still staring wide-eyed at the two of them.

“You… you know this—this man?” she asked, her voice quiet with disbelief.

Zaer turned back and felt the twinge of an ache begin between her legs at the sight of the naked male’s slowly lifting cock.

“We’ve met once,” she said, eyeing the man, one side of her lip curling in a smile. With any luck, they’d meet again.

Epilogue

Daz smiled to herself at the sound of the door opening and Hawk’s soft footsteps as he stepped inside. She reached out, turned the heat down under the pot she’d been stirring, then put a hand on her belly and swung herself around.

He was smiling as he walked toward her.

“Why are you on your feet?” he asked playfully, his mouth flirting with a smile. When he reached her, he leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips.

“Because someone’s got to cook for a hungry soldier,” she said, returning his kiss with one of her own and wrapping a hand around his back.

He kissed her gently on the forehead, then put a hand on hers, on top of where it was resting on her belly.

“How is he today? Still kicking?”

“Not letting me take a nap, that much is sure.”

“Hmm,” Hawk said, a scowl furrowing his brow. “That I can’t help with. But maybe there’s something I can do.” He pulled her away from the stove and toward the bedroom. Daz looked back at the empty plates and the steam rising from the pot.

“But dinner… it’ll get cold and… I—I don’t know if I can…” she stopped, turning her eyes down toward the floor. Suddenly, she felt herself being lifted from her feet and cradled in Hawk’s massive arms. She let out a squeal, then laughed. “What are you doing?”

“Shush. Too much talking,” Hawk said, trying to hide his own smile. He stepped through the door and into the bedroom, walked to the bed, and set her down on it softly.

“Hawk…” she began again. “I don’t think that…” Daz said, not knowing how to tell him that it wasn’t the right time.

But instead of removing his clothes, he moved to the foot of the bed, sat down, and put her feet in his lap. Her shoes tumbled to the floor, followed quickly by the socks she’d been wearing. She wiggled her toes, trying to pull her feet away from him. He held them firmly in his hands, then slowly started to rub them gently.

Daz groaned as the feeling of the muscles in her feet relaxing crept through her whole body. She felt as if she were sinking further into the bed and the first flickers of tiredness kept her eyes shut.

When she looked up, her heart filled with joy at the sight of her husband tending to her tired toes. Why the women of Golan chose to live without this was just as much a mystery to her now as it had been when she first realized what it meant to be with a man.

Hawk glanced up and she lost herself in his eyes before her own fell slowly shut. She felt the softness of a blanket being tucked up to her neck, then Hawk’s strong hands resumed the rhythm on her feet.

Dinner would have to wait. With her husband’s help, it was time for that nap.

He will explore her body thoroughly, punishing and pleasuring her as he wishes until she is left blushing crimson with shame yet still aching with need and longing for him to take her in any way he pleases.

Adena soon discovers that Lor’s plans for her extend beyond their bedchamber, and as part of her training she is brought to a doctor for an intimate, humiliating examination as often as her husband feels it necessary. Any defiance merely earns her a hard, bare-bottom spanking, yet though his firm-handed dominance often leaves her with flaming cheeks and a sore bottom, as Lor’s mastery of her body deepens Adena’s passion for him burns hotter every day. But can she truly learn to embrace life as a warrior’s mate?
