“By the way, I
agree to your terms. I want to be with you Carlos.”

“Are you
absolutely sure?” He raised a brow giving him that sexy GQ cover
look.

“What about the
31 ways to your…um…heart?”

“You’ve already
accomplished seven.”

“
Seven
on your list?” she tried to hide the shock in her voice.

“Yes,
seven.”

Her mind was
reeling now. “What are they?”

His lips curled
into a sly smile. “You already know a couple of them. I’m not going
to repeat them now. I’ll save that to the end.”

“The end?”

“Yes, the end
of our courtship.”

“Has any woman
ever fulfilled your 31 desires or requirements?” she cocked a brow.
She really wanted to know where she stood with him. Was he like one
of those professors who never gave out perfect grades even if it
was earned?

“No.”

“No?”

“No.”

She bit down on
her lip and fidgeted with her fingers as they walked out to his
Mercedes Benz in the cool evening as the sky began to set into a
deep rouge.

“Please don’t
fidget like that. It makes you look childish. Insecure. I don’t do
insecure women.”

She turned her
face to him and rolled her eyes. “I suppose you don’t have any
habits or insecurities.”

“You’re about
to find out, mon Cherie,” he said stroking her chin sending waves
of delight down her back as he ushered her inside the car. He
closed the door when she was comfortably inside the vehicle and
walked over to the driver’s side.

“I think you
will do well. If you don’t think too hard if that’s any
consolation.”

“It isn’t but
thanks,” she said with a ting of sarcasm.

“Sarcasm will
get you nowhere my dear.”

“I’ll remember
that….and…”

“And what?” he
raised a brow as if expecting a rebuttal.

“What if I have
some requirements of my own?”

“Shoot.”

“You mean shoot
off my requirements?”

“That’s what I
meant.”

“You mean
you’ll fill my own requirements?”

“I didn’t say
that. But I promise to listen. And I’ll let you know if this will
work out.”

She breathed a
deep sigh.

“Do you want me
to drop you back home now?” he cocked a brow as if daring her.

“Yes,” she said
quietly

He said nothing
for a while, his expression unreadable. He pulled the car over to
the curb and turned off the ignition near to where her apartment
was.

“You’re not
upset?” she said, trying to hide her shock.

“Why should I
be?”

“Oh, um…I was…I
meant no, sir. I want to go with you.”

A grin curled
his lips. “I should let you know, mon Cherie, I can often tell when
people are lying to me.”

Her jaw
dropped. The nerve of him.

“How?” she
wrinkled her brow.

He grinned. “I
left a business card on the table by the way so that your cousin
will know that you are with me and that you’re not kidnapped.”

“Thank
you.”

“But that
wasn’t necessary was it?”

“What do you
mean?”

“Don’t lie to
me, Elsie. Honesty is my number one requirement.”

“That’s not
right.”

“Why not?”

“Because
sometimes people can’t even be honest with themselves.”

“You’re a
thinking chick. I like that.”

“And yes,
you’re right. I had sent Dee a text while I was getting ready in
the bathroom,” she said sheepishly.  “I do trust you…”

“I know…but I
like the fact that you’re not an idiot. Always let someone know
where you are at all times if possible. It’s a crazy world out
there.”

“Crazier in
here, too,” she smiled, hoping  he would not take offence to
her joke.

“You’re going
to like the surprise I have planned for you tonight.”

“I am? What is
it?”

“It wouldn’t be
a surprise now would it?” He cocked a brow as he gave her a quick
sideway glance while driving on the highway.

“Will I like
the surprise?” she asked finally giving up.

He turned to
her and grinned.
