“It is.” Jack kisses me.

“So you want to get married on Nut Day?”

“Lauren, I’ve been going pecans for you since the day we met. It only seems perfect to marry you on the day that celebrates the thing that brought us together.”

I laugh and shrug. “I guess you have a point. Then we’d better get cracking on these wedding plans.”

Jack laughs. “Yes, and more importantly the honeymoon.” Jack wiggles his eyebrows at me.

A firework scatters across the empty night. The performance is starting. Pops and sizzles followed by crackles light up the sky. Rays of sunshine followed by flowers and champagne bottles form above us. It’s a glorious sight. Jack stands behind me and kisses my head. So much has happened in less than twelve months. By this time next year the man behind me will be the man beside me for the rest of my life.

Jack whisks me around and kisses me. Our mouths work in unison with the sounds of the fireworks blaring behind us. My eyes are closed but I don’t need to see. The display above us is no doubt a gorgeous sight. My mind is flooded with an intense vision of everything that is to come—of a life with Jack. No more weekend visits; he’ll be with me every day and every night. I won’t be rushing home to call him on the phone or dial him up on my laptop. Instead I’ll be in his lap and in his arms. From this moment until forever. The fireworks continue to burst above our heads and my heart is gushing with love. A loud boom sounds above and I break our lips and stare up at him.

“Jack Walker, you’ve stolen my heart.”

“Lauren Soon-to-Be-Walker, I’m never giving it back.”

Jack kisses me and the encore of fireworks continue on as he runs his hands along my neck and down my body. He’s got me. Mind, body, and soul, we are going to be intertwined forever. I’m going to be his wife and he’ll be my husband. Our fingers will be donned with matching rings. It’s finally real. We’ve set a date to seal our hearts together in pure wedded bliss and
I can’t wait.
