Myka was so nervous she could barely think straight. She had never been with a man the very first day she had met him, but here she was in Blake Lawson’s home ready to give herself to him. The ride over had her panties soaking wet, which horrified her. They sat there side by side in his jet-black pickup truck, with his hand resting on her knee. She noticed him watching her as she squirmed in her seat, attempting to make small talk, obviously aware of the effect he had on her. God, he’s gorgeous, she thought, seeing the muscles below his tight-fitting shirt.
Myka Lambert had given up hope of ever finding a good man who would love her and take care of her. Multiple failed relationships with men who were either lazy or only cared about themselves helped her come to the conclusion early on that the only people she could really count on were herself and her friends. When her best friend, Kimberlee Mason, moved to Haven’s Crossing and found true love with cowboys Caleb and Logan Wade, Myka decided that Haven’s Crossing was a place she needed to visit. She had just finished getting her master’s degree in physical therapy in time to make it to Kim’s wedding, so she packed her bags and headed to Texas.
Her very first night in Haven’s Crossing was the most eventful of her entire life. She and Kim had not only gotten kidnapped by a serial killer and survived, but Myka also met Blake Lawson, who had come to her rescue and taken her breath away. Blake owned the local BDSM club, Intrigue, and had been a Dom/Master for the past ten years. Myka learned quickly that Blake was kind and attentive, but he also expected her to do as she was told. She had never experienced that before and was surprised by how much it turned her on. And, of course his tan, muscular body didn’t hurt matters either.

When they arrived at his home, he helped her out and walked her up to the door, holding it open so that she had to slide past him with just enough space that their bodies touched. She could have sworn she felt a surge of electricity sparking between them. She knew he saw her swallow the lump in her throat, as she averted her eyes from his gaze.
His eyes were smiling when he handed her a drink, touching her skin in the process. Her hands began to tremble gently. “Are you alright, sweetheart?” he asked calmly in a low, seductive voice.
“I–I’m fine, thank you. Just still a little shaken from the whole kidnapping thing,” she replied, knowing as she said it that it wasn’t entirely true.
“Is that all?” he questioned, looking into her eyes so intently that she immediately looked down at the glass she was holding.
“Uh-huh,” she answered, trying to walk away from him.
“Oh, no you don’t, young lady,” he said, pulling her back and wrapping his arm securely around her waist. “You may as well learn now, sweetheart, that when I ask you a question, I not only expect an answer, but it damn well better be the truth. Now—I’m going to ask you again. Is that all?”
“No,” she mumbled, looking down.
He lifted her chin back up with his finger and, looking more sternly, said, “When we’re alone, Myka, I expect a ‘No,

’ not just a ‘No,’ and in this case ‘No,

’ isn’t going to suffice anyway, so let’s try that once more.”
Myka swallowed again and began to feel an ache between her legs. “No, Sir. That’s not all. I’m also nervous because of you.”
“Good girl. That was an honest answer, but now I need to know
why
I make you nervous. Are you afraid of me?”
Myka shook her head and then quickly added, “No, Sir,” when she saw his eyebrow raise and his head tilt to the side. When he continued to stare at her, obviously waiting for her to say more, she added quietly, “Your body being so close to me makes me nervous.”
“I’m very proud of you, Myka, and I’m going to try very hard to help you to relax, okay?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“I must say, I like how quickly you learn, little one. I have a feeling you and I are going to have quite a time together. Let’s go have a seat over on the sofa, shall we?” he asked as he guided her with his hand on her lower back. After they sat down, Blake took Myka’s hand and brought it up to his lips. He kissed it gently all over, his eyes never leaving hers. A shudder ran through her body, causing a smile to slowly form on his lips. “I like the way your body responds to me, Myka—and we’ve only just begun.”
“It’s time to talk right now, though,” he added. “I’d like to tell you a little about myself, my desires, and the world I live in. Do you know what a Dom is?”
Myka softly answered, “Just a little bit, Sir. That means you like to be in control, right?”
“Well, that’s only part of it, sweetheart. As a Dom or Master, it’s my responsibility to know what you need and what’s in your best interest, and what you want, even when you’re not so sure yourself. That’s why I need you to be honest with me about your feelings. I want you to be able to trust me so much that you’re able to submit to me without any questions asked. I want to take care of you, Myka. If you let me do that, I’ll take you places you’ve never been before and take all your doubts away. You would be known as the ‘submissive’ or ‘sub.’ When I tell you to do something, you’ll do it, no questions asked.”
“That’s the part that scares me, Blake. I’ve never done that before. What if you do something I don’t like?” she asked.
“That’s a very good question, Myka. The beauty of a Dom/sub relationship is that everything is negotiable. We decide together what will work for us and what won’t.
You
have the power to stop it all, if that’s what you want. If there is ever a time when you feel something hurts, or it’s just too intense for you, for whatever reason, then we will have a safe word that you’ll use. Once you use that safe word, no matter what we’re doing, it ends right then and there at that very moment.
“Eventually, you’ll be able to trust me to the point that you can surrender yourself to me completely and freely without any doubts holding you back. I want to explore with you, honey. I want to pleasure you and take you like you’ve never been taken before.” Blake began to rub his thumb over her lips, and she felt like he was hypnotizing her with his eyes. “This will be a journey we take together, Myka, and I truly hope that you will open your mind and go with me because I have never been more attracted to a woman. So, will you promise me you’ll at least try?”
“I would like to try,” she answered, closing her eyes just a moment so she could focus on what she was saying. “So, what if I don’t like it, Blake? Does that mean we could never be together?”
“I
