Reece was about to tear into Keeley and start shouting about the facts of life when Devlin burst out laughing. Reece turned to glare over at him.
“This is rich. I wish I had a video camera, because Chase and Donovan are never going to believe this. Keeley’s at least a foot shorter and a hundred pounds lighter than you are. He’s a human to boot. And I truly don’t think there is anything about you that intimidates him,” Devlin snickered.
“Oh, you’re no help at all,” Reece snarled.
“Oh, that’s right. You’re the big, bad alpha, the dominant male, and your little human isn’t even afraid of you when you shift,” Devlin said before more laughter took him over.
Reece glared angrily over at Devlin until his words began to sink in. Devlin was right. Keeley wasn’t afraid of him, even when he shifted. Reece had been positive Keeley would be scared when he had claimed him in the study before but Keeley had just reminded Reece that he was owed a manicure and then asked for his shirt.
“You’re really not scared of me, are you?” Reece asked in wonder as he looked down at his mate.
Keeley sauntered over to Reece and wrapped his arms around Reece’s neck. He grinned up at Reece, the love for his mate shining in his eyes. “Should I be?”
Chapter 13
Keeley painted another layer of fire engine red on his fingernail, blowing gently on it. It was his last fingernail to paint, and then he’d be ready. Just a little eyeliner, one already worn shirt, and some tight jeans and he’d be ready to go.
Reece had promised to take him out somewhere tonight when he got home. And it was about damn time, as far as Keeley was concerned. They had been moved into their new house for more than a month now. Most of that time, Keeley had spent decorating their house. Luckily, Reece had the decorating sense of a box of rocks so he had turned the entire house over to Keeley. Between the overstuffed tan sectional sofa in the living room and the extra large king-sized bed in the bedroom, Keeley felt he had done a pretty good job.
He was especially pleased with the vibrant paintings that hung on the walls. He loved the different colors and how they seemed to shine brighter every time the sunlight hit them. Keeley had rounded off his collection of stuff by adding bright throw pillows to the couch, dishes in the kitchen, and a rainbow of towels in the bathrooms.
Reece seemed to be pleased, even adding his own touch in the form of flowers several times since they had moved in. He had even gone as far as replacing the cookie sheets that Keeley had to leave behind when they moved to
While going from an alpha of his own pack back to an enforcer for another pack was essentially a step down in rank for Reece, Keeley thought he seemed happier, more relaxed. Keeley, on the other hand, was thrilled that Reece was home every night and had more time to play.
And Reece needed to play a lot. Keeley felt that he was too serious. And, as Nate had pointed out before, it was his job to make sure that he was happy and loved, using Keeley’s brand of love to do it.
Keeley was thrilled with all of the new changes. He had even adjusted to the fact that Devlin would be living with them until he found his own mate.
Devlin wasn’t a bad guy once you got to know him. But Keeley kept butting heads with him. He figured it was because Reece spent more time with him than Devlin. Devlin was feeling a little left out.
Keeley was glad Reece had finally given Devlin something to do, even if it was a sucky job. Devlin was taking Adrianna’s body back to her coven and her brother, Prince Ivinovav. Reece hoped the gesture would convey his desire for peace between the werewolves and the bloodsuckers. Keeley was doubtful.
“Hey, baby, I’m home,” a loud voice called out from downstairs.
“I’m up here,” Keeley called back. He smiled as he heard the heavy thud of footsteps running up the stairs just before the bedroom door swung open. Keeley looked up as he blew on his nails again.
“Ooohhh, red? Special occasion?” Reece asked as he sauntered over to the bed and knelt down on the floor before Keeley.
“Yep, my lover is taking me out tonight,” Keeley said.
“Lover, huh? Anyone I know?” Reece asked as he leaned up and kissed Keeley.
“You might. He’s very handsome, drool-worthy even, and he smells fantastic,” Keeley replied.
“Should I be jealous?” Reece asked.
“Oh, definitely,” Keeley giggled.
“Oh, really?” Reece said.
Keeley let out a squeal as Reece grabbed his legs and pushed Keeley back onto the bed, his larger body coming down to cover him. Reece lowered his head until his nose nearly touched Keeley’s.
“And why should I be jealous of this lover of yours?” he asked.
Keeley reached up and brushed a stray lock of black hair back from Reece’s face as he answered him. “Because he owns my heart.”
