Chapter 1

Scott awoke early the next morning. Tiffany was still asleep, his body was pressed against her back and he had his arms wrapped around her. He gently kissed her on the cheek and slowly moved himself away from her, trying his best not to wake her. She stirred and rolled over but did not wake up. Scott moved out of the room and headed downstairs towards the kitchen to get a drink. It had been a very interesting night, he was still a little shocked at the previous evening’s events and was trying to get his head around everything. He walked into the kitchen and fixed himself a glass of orange juice.

As he stood there drinking
, wearing just his boxer shorts, he gazed out of the window at his back yard. There was a lot to think about, if he was going to move to California it would mean leaving his grandparents’ house. He had gotten quite attached to the place, so that part would not be easy. On the other hand, it would mean a new start in a new place with a much better climate, plus he had a great job waiting for him and if he was going to have a serious relationship with Tiffany then they couldn’t really do it living over 2000 miles apart! Plus there was the little thing of her telling him that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, he knew what she meant but had kind of side-stepped the issue the previous evening, he was good at that. However he knew they’d have to talk about it sometime in the near future.

He poured another glass of juice for Tiffany before heading back upstairs to the bedroom. As he walked into the room she stirred again but still did not wake. He put the drink down on the bedside table and climbed back into bed, snuggling up behind her. As he played with her hair and stroked her cheek, she started to rouse.

“Guid morning gorgeous, did yer sleep well?”

“Morning,” she replied sleepily as she stretched and yawned.

“There’s a drink on the table fer yer. What would yer like fer breakfast?

“Thanks,” she said smiling as she moved towards him and kissed him on the cheek, before sitting up and taking a drink.

“So what can I make yer fer breakfast?” he asked again.

“I came here to look after you for a while Scott, I’ll make your breakfast.”

Scott smiled and hugged her.

“Och yer guid tae me, I like having yer aroond” he said playfully.

“You can have me for as long as you like, I told you last night that I want to be with you forever.”

“Aye I know yer did, that sounds guid.”

“You’re not going to avoid the subject again are you?” she asked smiling at him.

“I’ve nae idea what yer talking aboot lass.”

“Oh yes you do, I noticed how you skillfully avoided the subject last night and suddenly were too tired to talk.”

Scott laughed.
He lay down on his back and pulled her on top of him.  “I want tae be with yer too, I really do. I’ve just had a lot on my mind recently with everything that’s been going on. Plus I’m a wee bit scared of messing things up. I dinnae tend tae have much luck with relationships and I dinnae want tae lose yer by rushing things.”

“I understand that, I really do. I’ve not had the best of luck myself with men, but hmm I’m not really sure how to explain it. Being with you just feels right, I’ve never felt this comfortable with someone so quickly and I want to feel like this forever. Do you understand what I mean?”

“Nae, I have nae idea,” he replied trying not to laugh but failing. She knew he was teasing so proceeded to sit on top of him and start tickling him.

“You’re a big tease.”

Scott grabbed her arms and sat up on the bed so she was sitting astride him. All she was wearing was one of his t-shirts that she’d slept in. He put his arms around her waist and looked deep
into her eyes.

“Aye, I’m sorry. I’ll be serious fer a wee bit, we do need tae talk. And yer reet, being with yer does feel special and I want it tae carry on fer a long time, I really do.”

“Me too, so what are we going to do?”

“I have tae talk tae yer Dad aboot the job, it sounds great but I have tae make sure it’s a real position.”

   “What do you mean by
a real position?”

“Och it’s a pride thing I guess, I dinnae want anyone just giving me something just fer the sake of it. Do yer think it’s possible he may just be offering the job now because of what’s just happened with Kyle? Just because he’s grateful that I helped tae rescue him.”

“I don’t think so, I don’t know an awful lot about his casinos but I don’t think he’s ever taken the whole security issue as seriously as he should have. I’m pretty sure it’s a real position.”

“Okay, I’ll talk tae him. Have yer told yer parents aboot us? I mean, I know they know we’ve been seeing each other but do they realize tae what extent?”

“Yes, I told my Mom everything and I know she’ll have talked to Dad.”

“So is it nae possible that they offered me the job because of that?”

“Scott, you’re the best person for the job. Talk to Dad, but he always prefers to deal with people he knows. Stop analyzing everything and worrying. It’s a great opportunity and we could have a great life together.”

“Aye, I guess maybe I do tend tae over-analyze a wee bit. I will talk tae yer Dad though tae find oot exactly what he’d want me tae do.”

“So you’ll move out to California!” she said excitedly.

“Aye, I’d like tae, but there are a few things I have tae sort oot first.”

“Like what? Let’s get it done.”

“Calm doon bonny lass. Like sorting oot the job situation, where we’ll live, what I’ll do with this house, my job here. It all takes time.”

“I know, sorry. I’m just excited.”

“Me too,” he said as he placed his hands on each side of her face and pulled her towards him, kissing her gently.”

“Now let’s go and get some breakfast and start getting a few things done today,” Scott said as he took her hand and led her out of the bedroom.

The next few days went by quickly, they decided it would be better to try and rent out Scott’s house rather than sell it. Scott called a few rental agents but no final decision had been made. He’d also spoken to Jim about the job and was happy it was a genuine position that was needed. He’d be responsible for a complete overhaul of the security systems at all of the Robinson’s businesses and homes, not just the casinos
.
It was going to be Scott’s job to implement new procedures and hire new security companies and staff. Most of the premises were near the west coast and since the job would entail visiting various sites in that part of the country, it made sense that he’d have to live there. Scott had continued to go to work teaching his Martial Arts classes and had informed them of his desire to leave. Although the management at the fitness center were disappointed they did appreciate it was a great opportunity for Scott and one that he could not refuse. They asked him if he would continue to work there until a suitable replacement was found, and Scott was happy to oblige. He was not in a rush to leave, he knew he needed a break from stressful situations and he enjoyed his current job.

It was Monday evening. Tiffany had been in Ohio for nearly a week. They were both sitting on the couch, snuggled up together watching TV.

“Have you made a decision about which rental agent you’re going to use?”

“Nae yet, but I will soon. I’ll probably make a few calls tomorrow.”

“That’s good. Has the fitness center started looking for your replacement yet?”

“Aye, I believe they’ve placed an advertisement online.”

“Can you tell I’m excited?” she asked smiling at him.

   “Aye, just a wee bit!
Are yer sure yer fully understand what yer getting yerself in tae?”

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve mentioned it a few times afore tae yer. I know it’s a wee bit different with yer because yer knew aboot my background reet fae the start, being as though that was the reason yer Dad contacted me in the first place. But my Special Forces past has tae stay as confidential as possible. There’s still people fae certain terrorist organizations who would come after me today if they knew what I’d done and where I am. That could put yer in danger.”

“I don’t care about that, I love you, and I want to be with you.”

“I love yer too, but I just have tae make sure yer understand the risks. Yer know I’ll do everything I can tae protect yer but there is a chance something could happen.”

“I’ll do whatever it takes to be with you.”

“I was hoping yer’d say that,” he said as he leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.

It was September and the excited couple had been together for a few weeks and was enjoying each other’s company tremendously. However they decided that it was time for Tiffany to return to California to check on her business. The fitness center where Scott worked had found a replacement for him but the new man couldn’t start for a few weeks so Scott would remain in Ohio and continue to work. Also the rental agent that they had
chosen had very quickly found a couple that
wanted to rent the house. It only took a few days, the first people to even come and see it had decided they wanted it and had signed a six-month lease that would start on November 1
st
. Everything was working out perfectly. Scott planned to leave Ohio and head out to join Tiffany in the last week of October. They planned to live in her house in Santa Monica, at least for the time being. It was going to be hard for them to be apart again for the six weeks or so. Especially after spending so much time together, but the excitement they both had about starting a new life together seemed to make everything okay.
