Without any kind of remorse in her voice, Naomi answered.

“I stabbed you with this! I hope it hurt, you bastard!”

And with that, she held up a bloodied garden fork in front of Zephal.

CHAPTER TWENTY SIX

Nothing could explain the amount of pleasure that was running through my body right now as I looked down at Zephal, who was in immense pain right now after I had managed to stab him in the shoulder with the garden fork I spotted propped up against the wall when I came round after being hit from behind,

But while he was looking up at me, completely stunned that I had managed to stop him from inflicting the final blows to Lucius, he was unaware that someone was starting to move slowly behind him, ready to take advantage of Zephal’s temporary pause.

Zephal crumpled to the ground with a sickening thud as Lucius tackled him from behind and their fight continued without a second’s hesitation.

Lucius had finally gained some superiority over his nemesis and he instantly pinned Zephal to the ground by his throat.

But even though Zephal was in a lot of pain, he still managed to hold his own against Lucius and I was astounded to see how well he defended himself with just one arm.

Lucius was tightening his grip on Zephal’s throat and in desperation, Zephal punched continuously at Lucius’s ribs.

I could see Lucius wince every time Zephal’s fist made contact and he had no choice but to loosen the grip he had on Zephal’s throat to stop the blows from continuing.

And even though Lucius was undoubtedly winning the physical battle, Zephal was preparing himself to leash his greatest weapon.

I could see the horror on Lucius’s face as Zephal’s voice suddenly boomed around us.

“Orior oriri ortus ex vestri somnus quod servo vestri vinco!”

I don’t know what Zephal had just said, but it was obviously something serious enough to worry Lucius.

“You son of a bitch!” Lucius shouted angrily.

Zephal looked up and laughed.

“Now you are truly doomed, Lucius! Now you will never escape me within this world!”

Lucius shook his head and looked directly at me.

“What did he just do?” I asked him.

“He just called for his victims to rise from wherever they may be and serve him!” Lucius replied.

Zephal’s smile soon became a booming laugh as he saw the panic he had caused.

“It seems I still continue to have the upper hand, Lucius!” he mocked, “You may have been my greatest foe for many years, but the time has come for you to face your fate!”

Lucius immediately punched Zephal in the face, but the blow did nothing to deter the enjoyment Zephal was having right now and this made Lucius even more angrier.

“I am far from facing death yet, Zephal!” he growled, “Whatever army you have just called up will not last for long as they can not survive without their master – and I will make sure it is you that will lose!”

Lucius looked towards me.

              “Give me that fork, Naomi!”

I stepped forward and Lucius instantly snatched it from my grasp and I knew by the look on his face what was about to happen would not be pretty.

Lucius effortlessly lifted the garden fork into the air and prepared to send its metal prongs crashing down onto Zephal’s head, meaning certain death.

But even with the prospect of certain death looming, Zephal did not show one ounce of fear and he continued laughing at Lucius.

“You truly are not strong enough to kill me!”

Lucius towered over a defiant Zephal and without any more hesitation, thrust the fork down.

“See you in Hell, you bastard!” he shouted.

But the fork did not meet the softness of Zephal’s flesh, but instead it hit the hard concrete that we were all standing on.

Zephal had conjured up enough energy from who knows where, and had actually managed to move his body out of the way quick enough to escape any kind of serious injury.

Lucius stared in disbelief as he watched Zephal move swiftly away from him and jumped high onto a wall before his very eyes, his injured arm hanging limp from the rest of his body.

“I am growing tired of this game, Lucius! Soon, you will have nowhere to hide - that is if you manage to leave here alive!”

Lucius leapt almost catlike towards Zephal and hit out at him, making full contact with the side of his face which sent a shocked Zephal falling over the other side of the wall.

I expected Zephal to jump up immediately and continue his fight, but to my amazement no attack came and Lucius cautiously looked over the wall to find no sign of Zephal whatsoever.

But even I had learnt by now never to let your guard down – especially where Zephal was concerned.

Lucius and I both knew that this temporary reprieve was not going to last for long and if Zephal had managed to raise his little army to hunt us down, then standing around in the open air was probably not the smartest move.

As Lucius did a more thorough search for the whereabouts of Zephal, he had noticed that one of the houses further down the street was completely empty – no furniture, no curtains – nothing but a for sale sign outside.

And I could see how much the battle with Zephal had taken out of Lucius and this empty house may be our best bet to lay low until we had to move on again.

As we made our way towards it, we both kept a watchful eye in case anyone did approach us, but were both amazed by how quiet and peaceful the streets seemed to be right now.

There were no signs of anyone following us - especially not Zephal, which was making us feel incredibly easy.

We reached our new hiding place and even managed to get into it without any hindrance – mainly due to a small window being left open which thanks to my small frame, I was able to climb through and open the back door for Lucius to enter.

Even though we were out of sight, we knew that we could not let our guard down.

I argued with Lucius that I should keep watch first while he got some rest as I was not feeling tired right now and he was showing signs of fatigue – but he was determined that he should stand guard first.

Even though I didn’t feel tired, I soon found myself drifting off to sleep, even though I was just laying on a carpeted floor with just my jumper to support my head.

Lucius did his duty brilliantly – any movement he thought he heard was immediately checked out and true to his word, he defended me impeccably.

But I was completely unaware that while I was sleeping, he hardly took his eyes off me.

He watched my chest rise and fall with every breath I took and he even sat by my side, gently putting a comforting arm around me. With the other, he gently stroked my long hair, gently brushing his hand against my ear and the side of my face as he did so.

It must have been at this point that I started waking up and I could feel him close.

But I wasn’t scared in the least – I needed some comfort right now and I responded by moving in closer to him until he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.

Lucius responded by putting his head up against mine and he gave me a gentle kiss to her forehead as he continued to stroke my arm.

The sensations running through my body were electrifying and I know that Lucius must have been feeling them too as it wasn’t long before we each made our move.

Lucius sat bolt upright as I raised myself up onto my knees and we both moved our heads closer and closer until they could move no further, each of us feeling the other’s warm breath on our faces.

The passion inside me was building to boiling point and Lucius knew there was only one thing to do and he turned his head slightly and moved in to kiss me on the lips.

The feeling was electric as our lips met and with every kiss, more and more sensations shot through my body.  Lucius held the back of my head and began to kiss me along the chin, slowly moving down to my neck and ears which were met with pleasing moans from me as he did so.

Soon the two of us were locked in an embrace that sent me into seventh heaven with every kiss he gave me - so much so that I found myself pushing him until he could do nothing else but fall back onto the floor.

The second he landed, I was astride him, my long hair draping over his face as I kissed him. Lucius let me take charge for a while before spinning me onto my back so he was now on top.

Inch by inch Lucius began exploring my body and with every move, my body began to quiver in expectation of his next move.

Whatever was happening right now seemed so right and nothing was going to stop us - not even Zephal.

Slowly the two of us explored each other’s bodies and with every minute, our clothing was beginning to decrease until the two of us were totally naked.

I wanted him – I wanted him bad and I could feel how bad he wanted me too.

I could feel his legs pushing down onto mine and without hesitation, I opened mine up to let him in.

I was ready for him and he knew it.

And just as he was about to enter inside me, something made me push him off.

CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

Back at the hospital, the dead nurse had been placed in the back of the coroner’s van to be taken to the local mortuary until the replacement coroner could carry out a thorough post-mortem upon her.

News had spread throughout the hospital of what had happened on the 6
th
floor and some of the staff and patients had gathered in the main entrance hoping to catch a glimpse of the gory aftermath.

But they were disappointed as they were unaware that the nurse’s body had been transported out of the hospital through the rear lifts and corridors used by the hospital to transport patients to and from different floors without having to go through the corridors open to the public.

The van driver and his colleague had been hoping for a quite night, but peace was the last thing they were going to have – their colleagues who were in charge of the other coroner’s van were also on call to pick up the dead body of the policeman who had been killed by Lucius outside Naomi’s flat.

They had never been so busy as they had been the last couple of days and with such a number of deliberate deaths happening in such a short time in a town as quiet as this, it was only natural that people were beginning to grow a lot more anxious.

But the two men continued on with their shift and picked up a little speed as they joined the main road which was very quiet due to the late hour.

The nurse’s body in the back of the van was inside a zipped standard body bag and even though the two men had seen countless numbers of bodies in their work before, there was definitely something sinister in the ones they had started picking up lately.

And the one they had in the back of the van was no different.

Their journey was ground to a sudden halt as the traffic lights ahead of them turned to red and as they waited for them to change, neither of the men noticed that something strange was happening in the back of the van.
